I have reservations at POR for early December for my ds8 and myself but... now we're going to bring his cousin. There was availibility at Ft Wilderness and I'm wondering if that would be a better choice with 2 boys. The bunkbeds instead of sharing and the petting zoo, campfire, etc. Any thoughts???

There are pros and cons for either way. At FW, you will not have a themed pool. I'm not sure if there is even a water slide there. The pools are just very basic backyard pools there.

When I stayed at FW a few years ago, the transportation was horrible. There was a minium of one transfer to get to any of the parks (i.e. a bus to the boat dock, and the boat to the Magic Kingdom, a bus to the T&TC, and the monorail to Epcot). I don't know if the transportation has gotten any better there--perhaps someone who has stayed there more recently will know. But if I were to stay there again, I would definitely make sure we had a car.

The cabin will give you two rooms--you could even sleep on a murphy bed in the living room if you wanted to. You'd also have the kitchen, which would be nice for breakfast.

I like the theming at the POR, and the rooms are nice. The pool would be more fun for the boys. The boat to Downtown Disney is great, especially if you intend on spending some time at Disney Quest.

I guess it's really just what you want from your trip. Hope this helped.

My family spent Christmas in a cabin and loved it. When our kids were younger we camped at FW several times, and it's still their favorite, even over some moderates and deluxes. While there is the plus of the petting zoo and campfire, my sons always loved pool time, and the FW pools are very basic, no slides or hot tub. I think the boys might really enjoy the Swimmin' Hole at POR. I'm guessing that the temp will be fine for folks from MN!

As a parent I would appreciate the additional option of staying up without the boys in the living room of the cabin.

TLinden16 has summed up the transportation pros and cons.

Good luck deciding!

Thanks for the suggestions. There were a number of things I hadn't considered. I think I'll leave the reservation at POR. The pool is more themed and there's the fishing and boat if they want to do things at the resort. It's more my idea of Disney (Actually, Poly or GF are more my taste) . I'm not much into camping but thought we could do a cabin if it would be more fun for the boys. I think they'll have fun no matter where we stay. Thanks for the suggestions.
