POR or CSR? (if POFQ unavailable)

Currently booked at POFQ, and I really want to stay there. HOWEVER, if we get a discount that can't be used there, I would switch to POR or CSR (not interested in CBR, sorry) if it means saving $1,000.

For POR, I'd choose a royal room or preferred room. For CSR, I'd only consider a preferred room. We've always had preferred rooms at the Values and we were also in what I considered "preferred" locations at Poly & BC (close to lobby, buses, main pool), so we are spoiled when it comes to room location. We come & go a lot, and we frequently eat at the hotel, so we like being close to it all. I love the look of the POR royal rooms and we do have a little princess who will be 4 when we go. I also love the look of the CSR rooms - they look so classy (the white & teal remind me of a Tiffany box - LOL!). I don't love the AB section of POR but I'll take it, if it's the best location. We don't spend a lot of time at the pool, so that's not really a factor in the decision.

So - if POFQ isn't available - my question for the experts is, would my best bet be POR-royal pool view (which seems to be the closest type of royal room to the main building), POR-preferred, or CSR-preferred? Just want my ducks in a row, for whenever the elusive discount comes out (hopefully). :goodvibes

I'd choose CSR and instead of the preferred room I'd book a club level room. That building is close to everything.

Thanks for that info, Buddy. I can't find any pricing or availability for those rooms for our week, but I'll definitely keep them in mind.

Anyone else?

The "club level" rooms at CSR are called business class. All rooms booked under this category are in Cabanas 9B and gives you access to a room that has beverages (including alcohol), snacks, and free computer usage. Not quite as sophisticated as true club level at the deluxe resorts, but a nice amenity nonetheless. The room is only open in the mornings and evenings, so many people will book this category solely for the purpose of being guaranteed a room in Cabanas 9B. It's priced comparable to preferred rooms at CSR.

IMO, if POFQ is your first choice, I would pick POR Royal Room if you need to switch. The theming at POR will be very similar and the Royal Room isn't too far off in theming/decor from POFQ rooms. Plus, you're about a 10 minute walk from POFQ if you want to pop over there for their pool or food court. And you'd still have the boat to DTD. Preferred rooms at POR are fine, but a further walk to POFQ and a much different feel/decor inside the rooms.

We love Por, have had 3 great stays there. My personal pref is the Mansion section, so I never book preferred there. I find either Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House near Old Man Island bridge very close to main pool and food court. My least fav location was Parterre Pl. we were at the very end, and far from main pool, or mansion bus stop. I also didn't like the Main South Depot. Too crowded.

So thanks to Buddy, I have added another choice to the list! I've been looking into the "club level" stuff all day. There are none of these rooms currently available for our dates, so I don't think any would open for free dining. But if they do, it's definitely a contender! ;)

So far, I'm thinking:
1. POFQ
2. POR-Royal Room Pool View (just because DD would love the princess room & I'm pretty sure Andre - the Port Orleans guru - said that pool view is the best guarantee for closest to the footbridge as far as royal rooms go)
3. CSR-CL

Last choices would POR-preferred or CSR-preferred. I prefer POR's dining, but I prefer the appearance of CSR, so I don't know which I'd choose if it came down to these two.

We stayed at the CSR 2 visits ago and POFQ and POR last time. First of all I liked them all. CSR is very nice but you seem to be interested in the amount of walking required - CSR is Very spread out around a lake - lots of walking. Next we stayed at POFQ and the kids loved it. We moved to the POR for second half of stay because the Royal rooms were 30% off and it cost less than regular rooms at POFQ! I consider both resorts as one and use them as such. The walk from the mansions where the royal rooms are are no big deal. Just across a nice bridge to the main building. Because of 30% off in August we are doing Poly/Riverside/BW over 2 week period. Doing Riverside as compromise because kids wanted to go back to POFQ I really suggest with having a 4 year old princess - do the royal room once. They are very nice!

Yes, we were also on the DDP and used the lounge to eat breakfast daily. They had assorted cereals, bagels, fruit and croissants. Each night we wold have snacks and drinks at the lounge that between not paying for breakfast and the drinks, this easily covered the cost of the room. The CM's were very nice as well.

You are looking for business class rooms at CSR, correct? Just don't want you to be searching for "club level" under CSR and think nothing is available since it's called business class :thumbsup2
