POR or ASSp?

DH, DS (14 at time of trip) and I are planning a trip from August 21-29, 2018. We haven't been to WDW since 2007 and are so excited to return. DH and DS are very happy to leave all of the planning to me. I cannot, for the life of me, decide between POR and ASSp. We do plan to use the pools (DS loves to swim!) and plan on taking breaks from the parks mid-day due to heat, at least some of the days.

I'd really LOVE to stay at BCV, but that's beyond the budget. So I've narrowed it down to these two. (I liked AOA too but DH said "too much mermaid.") :) So any advice would be appreciated. Do we spend more $$ for POR, which appears to have a nicer pool and more dining, or will we be just as happy at ASSp? Thanks!!

I would choose POR. The rooms are larger, have queen beds instead of doubles, and the resort itself has more amenities (also shares with sister resort POFQ). We have stayed at POR many times but only did All Stars once.

What you will get at POR over Sports.

Bigger rooms
Queen beds
Double sinks
Ceiling fans
Coffee maker in room
Lusher grounds
Pool slide
Hot tub
Multiple Covered bus stops
Sit down restaurant
YeeHa Bob - great family entertainment
Boat to Disney Springs
Fishing hole - minimal extra cost

Now it's up to you to decide if these extra amenities are worth it.

I stayed at both POR and ASSp last year and highly recommend POR. You can have a great time at both, but POR's rooms are larger and nicer and the pools and dining options are better. If you just want the resort for its beds and pools, ASSp is definitely the cheaper option. But at POR, you're getting more dining options and the bigger rooms.

Dansdad put it very well. You get a lot more at POR. One thing he omitted is the boat to Disney Springs, and carriage rides. Even if I don't do the carriage ride, I love hearing and seeing the horses go by. It just adds to the resort atmosphere.

I stay at both and have no issues with staying at ASSp with three adults .......... but I don't stay that long and I don't utilize anything at the resort, it's just a bed/bath.

Bolded -
- a WEEK
- haven't been in 11 years, so special
- pools/swim, POR much better and there are quiet pools
- taking breaks, not much at value to take a break to
- heat, moderates have a lushness, shade and feel cooler

I would never dissuade someone from a value, I've had 25+ stays at POP alone, probably close to 40 in values. But for your trip, your group and your plans/time of year ......... I would hands down choose POR. And like PP said, boat to DS is nice and since DS is older, you all might enjoy wandering/dining there.

We have done both a few times! And we love both but for very different reasons. The theme of ASSP greatybappears tommy sports loving family, we love the size of the resort, the ease of transportation, and we have no issue with the room size or double beds.

We love POR for the boat transposition, the lush grounds, the relaxing feel, the pools, but don't love the caste size of the resort and hated the hot tub, as it was crowded with small kids and not tracing at all.

I have no problem staying in a value, but would pick POR over AASp any day.
