We have two boys 11,13 and one girl 4. Looking for advice on which resort to book, POR or Art of Animation. Boat to DD seems like a fun option for older boys to have a little freedom, but theming at AofA looks amazing for little one. Will all five of us be miserable at POR and wish we had the suite?

My family loves POR. We love the grounds, the food court, the pool and the boat to DTD.

That being said, we are starting to run into issues as the kids get older with 4 people sharing one bathroom. For that reason alone we considered AoA for our last trip. We ended up doing 2 connecting rooms at Pop because it was cheaper (and Grandma decided to come). Having 2 bathrooms was great. My husband and I walked around AoA one evening and the theme was fantastic. With 5 people I would lean towards AoA.

Also, I am not sure how familiar you are with the boat to DTD from POR. l think it is about a 25-30 minute ride to DTD with a stop at POFQ. I just wanted to mention that since you wrote about letting your sons have some freedom to DTD. The ride is not a short one. Also you have to disembark at DTD if others are waiting for a ride back, so you are not guaranteed a round trip sightseeing trip on the same boat. Also, if there is inclement weather, the boats are sometimes shut down. Your kids would have to be prepared to take a bus in this case. I am not saying that you shouldn't let you kids do this, I just wanted to give you some info about the boats so they would be prepared. I remember we were surprised how long the trip took the first time we did it.

Honestly, I think I'd be miserable in the POR room with 5 people. It just isn't quite large enough, IMO. We stayed in the AoA suite in the Cars section last year and loved it. This year we're trying the Beach Club. I'm a little worried about feeling squished in one room even at the Deluxe.

I'm not sure your 11 and 13 year olds would have much options in terms of fun at AOA. Remember, as you go up on the resort scale, you get more amenities. Moderates will have much more opportunities in terms of enjoyment for everyone. At POR there is a 90 foot long slide. At AOA there is no slide. Also, POR is much more beautiful in terms of nature and is just so much more convenient. Even your 4 year old would love the slide. Your choice though.

Go to Art of Animation! I'm going to POR so three less monsters I'll have to hear and see.

Just kidding.. We went to AoA the first day Lion King opened up. Nice rooms, Murphy bed and desk with chairs.. kids will dig it. The children will enjoy AoA better. You can walk the grounds that have several different themes and the pool is pretty neat with the underwater music..

Hope that helps.. Keep those rug rats away!! Lol....j/k

Thanks for the great info. I didn't realize the boat ride was so long to DTD, that's good to know. I wish they had suites adt the moderates!
