Are there only royal rooms in the Mansion buildings now? If so, what would your "building request" suggestion be for a regular/water-view room? Also, are all of the King rooms at POR handicapped? Thanks!

Oak Manor and Parterre Place (the 2 Mansions closest to POFQ) are the Royal Rooms. Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace (the 2 closest to Alligator Bayou) are "regular" mansion rooms.

I don't know the answers to your other questions, but you might want to check out the POR FAQ thread here, as well as the great portorleans.org site run by Andre (who also maintains the Port Orleans FAQ threads on this board).

<<The 512 new Royal Guest Rooms are located exclusively in Oak Manor and Parterre Place and are all fitted with two queen beds (no Kings or Murphy beds).

Standard View rooms can overlook many areas of the resort, but most commonly will face the parking lots. Garden View guarantees that you won’t be looking out over a parking lot and you should get a more pleasant view of gardens, bayou, courtyards, fountains, etc. Water View gives you a view of either a pool or possibly the Sassagoula River - but to be guaranteed a River View you will need to book that as a category. Preferred Location guarantees you a room fairly close to the main building and bus stop, located ONLY in Alligator Bayou lodges 14, 15, 18 and 27. King Bed rooms contain just one King-size bed instead of two queens and can be located anywhere on the resort. Disability Accessible rooms are also available, a few with one King Bed but now mostly with two queens.>>

Snipped this off of Andre's room rehab explanations. As the PP said, you still have two whole mansions to work with if you don't want a Royal room. So happy they left my favorite mansion alone :).

There is a very informative thread about POR, which can answer all of your questions.

Thanks for the info! Guess I will request 2 queens in either Acadian or Magnolia/water-view. We really don't want to stay in the Bayou ones.

No. There are a few handicapped accessible rooms with King beds, but many that are not. We stayed in a non-accessible King room in Acadian House last year.

Also, just an FYI - you can't request a king, it is a booking category. If you have water view booked though, you can request king since you can only book in one category. If you just have standard booked, you'd have to upgrade to king to get a king bed.

Also, booking a royal room is the only way to guarantee you'll be in the mansions. Stay away from preferred rooms as those are only in AB.
