We've stayed at POR many times but only had need for a room with stability bars in the shower for our last two trips (I have nerve damage; I now use an ECV, too). We stayed in a POR AB handicap-accessible room with queen-sized beds before, but for our trip this fall we booked a handicap-accessible room with a king-sized bed. Does anyone know what the possible room numbers may be? I saw floorplans of POR AB and it looks like room 1517 is the only accessible room with a king bed. Also, if that's the case, do you know if this is a corner room? I've always wanted to stay in one of those! Thanks much for your input!

No idea what the room number is or numbers are, but you would be able to tell from the building layout map if it is a corner room.

Hi, MKingdom. I saw the same room number on Touring Plans as the only king room #1517 in Building 15.

I know their info is gathered from other guests posting on the site so that is possibly why you may not see any more King rooms. I don't know.

I found an old website describing the different ADA type rooms, but it is old and it doesn't help you finding more King rooms.

https://www.portorleans.org/rooms-accessible.php

I might suggest the you search for King
  • “Florida Special” Accessible Room (with option for Hearing Accessibility). Features extra handrails near the bathtub and toilet.

When on MyDisney website I thought I saw some Florida Special Accessible Rooms with showers and handrails. But I am not positive about this since they were showing those new fancy rooms in the photos.

On Touring plans I found more King rooms in Building #15 and Building #80 when using "Florida Special” Accessible Room. Features extra handrails near the bathtub, maybe shower and toilet.

Is there a reason you expect to be in AB or you are just hoping? AB rooms aren't a booking category per-se, other than "preferred" rooms will be in AB. But I don't know that king bed preferred is a bookable category. So you may be in the mansions. I see the following as options for booking an accessible room with king bed:
  • King Bed. Wheelchair accessible with roll-in shower and option for hearing accessibility. 1 king bed.
  • King Bed. Florida special accessible room with option for hearing accessibility. 1 king bed.
  • King. Hearing accessible - visual alarms and notifications. 1 king, 1 child-size pull down
  • King Bed. Wheelchair accessible with tub and option for hearing accessibility. 1 king bed
The description on all seems fairly generic: "Views of Landscaping, Courtyard, Garden, Bayou, Riverfront or Courtyard Pool" (a couple exclude the courtyard pool in the description).

Also, be aware that AB buildings do not have elevators, so anything other than "wheelchair accessible" could be on the second floor and require stairs.

Enjoy your vacation!

That is a very reputable website for information about the Port Orleans resorts. It does appear that the room layouts haven't been updated in several years - but I can't speak to whether that is "old" information or if it simply hasn't changed over the years.

Hi, lanejudy. I was actually searching for Port Orleans, but I was also curious about what the different types of categories included. Like the Florida Special Accessible Rooms and whether they have low entry bathtubs with multiple handrails in the tub and toilet area or whether they had a shower with handrails. Not roll-in showers.

All of those accessible descriptions are so confusing to me.

I use the roll in shower room so I know what is in there.

But I am not sure about the Florida Special Accessible Rooms.

I agree I like the website although I haven't been on it in a long time since I usually go to Pop.

I scrolled down further on the link's page and saw where our Bill Sears on May 2011. Maybe that is why I thought that it was older info.

I'm actually a member at the website too :) (look for Mamabunny over there as well! :)) and Andre (the webmaster) is quite active here - in the POR and POFQ threads in the Resorts forum.

He does a pretty solid job of keeping his PortOrleans.org website up to date (overall). And from what I have learned, they really haven't moved room types (especially the HA rooms) around there... ever. We consistently stay in the same handful of rooms there, over and over.

So, if you look at the maps on Andre's PortOrleans.org site, (There are 2 .PDFs for the POR rooms, and 1 .PDF for POFQ rooms) you will see that the King bed rooms are represented by the purple boxes - then you just need to identify which of those rooms is your preferred handicap accessible type.

Hi, mamabunny. I agree is a great website and the only website that I have found that has the most info on POR. I just haven't used it in such a long time and I just went by the date of the review on that particular website by Bill thinking that might be the last time it was updated.

I did not want to give the impression that it was an old website.

I think that it is a great website, too. And I would definitely use it when I can afford to stay there again.

I wish that knew how to make a website like that for Pop Century.
