POR - Disney’s Fleabag Motel

Only at Disney will you find defenders of rooms in need of refurbishment. I’ve stayed in other hotel chains where “refurbishment” is going on and not once have I been in a room as old and worn as the one OP had. One year we stayed at Beach club when it was undergoing refurb- decent shape but scratches on walls and peeling wallpaper noticeable. Stayed RPR that trip as well- also under going refurb, and the RPR room was perfect. In fact couldn’t figure out why it needed a redo as room was in perfect condition.
We just had a stay at Grand Floridian where the carpet stayed soaked by the bed for two days, finally got moved on third day. Clearly a leaky pipe, and dusty floorboard too. Absolutely unacceptable in a “flagship” hotel. Period.

I think the $10 decline housekeeping incentive has done more harm than good. If cleaning is only being done between guests and there is a very limited time to turn over the room, the grime will accumulate more than if a housekeeper is going in daily to clean.

How disappointing and unacceptable. We have stayed at POR three times and POFQ three times and our rooms have always been spotless. Hopefully yours was a one-time bad experience and POR will up their game. We've stayed at multiple deluxe resorts and always end up back at POFQ because it's still our favorite, spotless and great customer service.

Maybe so, but they don't scrub the tub and toilet during daily housekeeping.

Dated is one thing, overly worn and dirty is another.

Either way, I’m embarrassed as a Disney fan and someone who raves about WDW that these are the kinds of rooms they feel okay putting guests in. Not up to Disney standards, at least the Disney they should be trying to be.
Right & take them out the rotation until they’re are done. Unacceptable especially for what Disney charges!

I'll chime in on this too. I posted this on my POFQ review from June on FB. I would have requested to be moved out of POR if our entire stay was booked there, as I looked back on the photos again it is sad what has been allowed to happen. When we were all re-hashing the trip once we got back all three Disney newbies made the remark that the room was worn out and depressing.

"I've stayed at POR countless times from way back in the DL days through the years. We stayed our first night there (June 1) before we started our FQ package. Building 35 which was forever away but not a biggie because it was just one night. That said, POR is off the list for us unless it's just some smoking deal. While the grounds were gorgeous as always, things just seemed worn. The room situation didn't help, lights burnt out and everything was dusty, the coffee pot looked like it hadn't been wiped in months. Made me sad a bit to be honest. The fresh feel of FQ was a relief the next day."

Now I'm worried about this as we are due to stay in the Royal rooms in October... Are these likely to be any better from a housekeeping/cleanliness point of view? I am hoping so.... Also not sure if they are up for refurbishment any time soon or if there is likely to be any renovation work ongoing in the royal buildings during our stay. Any thoughts much appreciated (sorry to hijack the post)...

We stayed at POR in July and it was the worst trip we've ever had there -- it was our third stay in two years. I don't blame you for not wanting to go back, we won't be.

Had a bad experience at POR in October 2018. I had booked a preferred room and they tried to put me in a standard room. I called to complain (had done online check in), they switched me to a Royal Room river view. Told me the new room #, and I also got the text.

Magic bands worked to get us into the room but it hadn't been cleaned from the prior occupants. The beds were still unmade, trash cans were full, debris on the table. Housekeeping had not been there at all.

Called the front desk again. An hour later they assigned us another room. We went in-- it had been cleaned but there was a giant wet spot in front of the dresser. Not damp, completely wet. I thought the refrigerator had leaked, it was that bad. I think housekeeping had stacked a ton of wet bath towels on the carpet & soaked it. By this point, I was just exhausted and didn't want to move yet again. We were only staying there one night and then moving to the Polynesian resort. We just dealt with the wet spot.

I won't stay at POR again. Stayed at POFQ on our last trip and had zero issues.

I'd check over at portorleans.org. He keeps the refurb schedule pretty up to date.

For your home to look like that isn't really a big deal IMO because you know who's gunk it is. It is your family's gunk.

When I go to a hotel room I want it to be spotless. I don't want to look at someone else's body hair in the sink or grime on the toilet. It's one thing when it's my home and I know it's my hair. I just don't need the reminder in a hotel room.

Normal wear and tear I can deal with. Paint chips, people bump walls, ok I can deal with that. But mildew in the shower is absolutely disgusting.

We're staying in a RR in October as well and now I'm worried too. I won't put up with conditions like this for a second and I won't accept being moved to another room, I'd want moved to another resort and an upgrade for my trouble. I'm already antsy about moving down from a deluxe and this sure doesn't help! I don't care why the conditions are what they are- needs refurb, declined housekeeping- doesn't matter to me. For the prices charged, the rooms should be in excellent condition and impeccably clean or they shouldn't be available for stays.

I wonder if some of the mouse keeping issues has to do with the ability for guests to decline mousekeeping. I'm going for 7 days and plan on declining which means that they won't touch that room for 7 days. To me that's about as long as you want to go without having your room touched by mousekeeping. Imagine what the rooms look like when guests say for 7 or more days and decline mousekeeping. My guess is that mousekeeping doesn't have the time to actually do the deep clean needed on these rooms due to needing them for new guests.
Maybe Disney needs to change their policy to a timeshare time housekeeping ( usually services once or twice per week).

You could take most of the photos and it could be from a lot of the resorts. Heck it looked like our room at BCV when we stayed there. Our room at GF a few years back, had scrapes at the entrance wall just inside the door. Mousekeeping and general room maintenance have been going down hill for years now. But, I also know that you cannot compare a WDW hotel to your typical hotels because they have an unbelievable occupancy rate of 90+% and do not want to take rooms out of service.

You’re right. POFQ has always been wonderful. We haven’t ever had an issue there.

I just came back from POFQ a couple weeks ago and my room was spotless and well kept. Wild how just across the way these issues are happening.

Just returned from a trip and thought I’d put a PSA out about Riverside’s horrible housekeeping situation. We booked three nights at POR for our Galaxy’s Edge preview.

The first room we were assigned was the most disgusting hotel room we’ve ever stepped foot into. Scuffed and scratched walls with paint missing, dried mystery substances on the walls, dried toothpaste on the bathroom mirror, cobwebs on all of the lights. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. And the piece de resistance, the door was so warped there was a 1/2” gap all around it. Went to front desk, they said they’d move us. Waited three hours before we got into our second room, which wasn’t much better.

Random hairs stuck to things, the bathroom light was falling out of the ceiling, the shampoo dispensers were broken and rusty, a broken light fixture over one of the beds, mold on the shower curtain rings, dried brown substance on the wall around the toilet paper holder.

Eventually we complained and were moved to another resort for our last two nights but we can’t unsee what condition these rooms were in.

Went looking to see if anyone else had this issue and found others on the boards talking about it too. Seems like this wasn’t out of the norm for Riverside. They have a serious housekeeping issue. I’ve attached the pictures I managed to snap before I was too grossed out to continue.

We’ve stayed at value, moderate and deluxe resorts and have never seen this level of filth and disrepair. If you are thinking of booking or currently booked at POR I would strongly suggest you rethink.
OP, did they give you a hard time about your complaints? Or did they offer to move you right away?
Not going to lie, I am not excited about staying here in Oct. Looking every day to see if there is a switch I can make.

I wonder if it was a doggie accident that had to be cleaned, since POR is a doggie-friendly resort. The refurbishment is changing carpets to hard flooring, which should help.

P.S. To those going soon and are worried. We went at the end of March and our room was clean, so hopefully, you will also have a good experience.

I went ahead and switched over to POFQ. We had construction issues at AKL just last month and while I'm very confident Disney would do right by us if there was an issue, I don't want to deal with it again. No one can ever guarantee a problem free stay, but the refurb is getting very, very close to the RR's we'd be in and I just don't want to take more chances than I have to. I'll be interested to see just what they do with the Royal Rooms and maybe stay there next time!
