POR--cannot request king bed?

Hi--
I booked POR with an AP rate for December, then did some homework on the boards. When I called back to request Magnolia Terrace and a king bed, I was told that I could not request a king bed, since I had booked a standard room. CRO said that it was a price difference. Is this correct? It is only DH and myself, and we would really like a king. Any advice?

That is correct. You now have to pay for a king bed. I think it's something like $10 a night more. So I think if you really want one, just call and change your reservation for it!!! Hope this helps!!

You can always take your chances and request it at checkin, and possibly get the upgrade for free.

But it's a chance, and if it's something really important to you, you'll have to make the reservation in advance and ante up the extra cash.

We did pay for the King at CBR. I think it was $15 more/night and that is not view specific. I think it was the same amount as getting 2 double bed, water view. I was hesitant to pay the extra $ since it does not cost WDW more for the king rooms, and actually since less people can fit in the room it actually means often there is less occupancy in the room, but decided that we really wanted the larger bed.

At moderate resorts the King bed or water view option is a separate price level. You can request anything until the cows come home, but if you actually want a KING or Water View you *will* pay for it. Either option is an additional $15 per night. AND you need to book it prior to arrival.

The days of free upgrades are over.

Actually, when I reserved she told me that I could put a request in for a king and hope for the best, but I decided to go ahead and pay for the upgrade to guarantee it. As it turned out CBR was so dead when we were there (just after Jeanne) that we probably would have gotten the king room as a request.
