Hi All,
Sunday- Aug 26th- 7am and my son is just waking up not knowing he is about to get the call of his life. 7:15am- Mickey calls.
Give the phone to my son. Camera rolling. He is listening to the message still not comprehending. Didn't even ask why we were dressed. So he looks confused.
I even told him we are going. Still didn't get it. Mickey calls a second time. Its starting to dawn on him. We are going to Disney World? Yes. When? Now. OH MY GOD.
Where are my clothes? How are we getting there? Uh by plane?! You know I hate heights.
(Here we go). Our bags are packed. Cab is waiting and off to the airport we go. Get him earplugs and all is well. Land in Orlando at about 1:30pm. Line for the buses were crazy long. They were asking for only one person to stand on line while the family waits. It moved pretty quickly and then off to the other line for the bus. Well got on the bus about 3pm and to the hotel before 4pm. No lines for check in. SWEET!
Was given room 8306 at Acadian House. Had a corner room so two windows. Great room. It was over two bridges but it was less than a 5 minute walk to the Main Building. So we stay in the room for about 30 mins and then its off to AKL for our 6pm dinner at Boma. What can I say about this restaurant. Its always our custom to go there the first night. After dinner we head to DTD and to Disney Quest. Stayed there for the night and went back to the room.
Monday- Aug 27- Have a 8:00am reservation to AK for Donalds Breakfastosaurus. Good as usual. Ran to get Fast passes for Expedition Everest. Of course they chicken out so I rode it twice and gave the other fast pass to a couple who had only one fast pass so I let them ride together. That is a great ride. We got on the Kali Rapids and then son wanted to go back to the hotel to the pool. So we were back at the hotel before 12pm. Stayed in the pool for the afternoon and then changed and went to Magic Kingdom. Stayed in Tomorrowland and did Space Mountain with my son. Oh yeah, they had a ride malfunction so the fast passes were honored at any time. Did Buzz lightyear and Stitch and the motor cars. Get a phone call from home from my daughter. The cat died.
We all cried for a minute and remininced about our dear Queenie. Son took it pretty well. Then asked for a Turtle. Still considering that. Well we then went back to enjoying the evening and then turned in for the night.
Tuedsay- Aug 28th- Went to MGM. Ate a light breakfast at the Dining Hall because we had a 12:30 reservation at Sci Fi dine In.
The food was good as usual. Got on all the rides. Hubby doesn't do coasters so Son and I got on the Rockin Roller Coaster. This was his first time. He loved it. Watched Fantasmic (my favorite) and then back to the hotel.
Wednesday- August 29th- 8am reservation at Chef Mickeys. This was our first time there. It was our favorite. Food was good. The picture thing however I didn't care for. $32.00 for a photo?
I am not a cheap person but I thought this was too much. After breakfast we head to Typhoon Lagoon. Great waterpark. The wave pool is so exhausting but fun. Went on that water coaster. And almost flew out of the tube.
A couple did fly out and the wife lost her glasses. Son wanted me to get on Humunga Kowabunga with him. Talking about tearing me a new one. Oh my **** hurt.
Was ready to go after that. Head back to hotel and change to go back to DTD. Did I tell you the my Jose Cuevo Margaritas was the best?
I had a few of them. Love that Margarita stand. Oh yeah. We had those Beef and Bleu sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich. Oh those were so good. So back to Disney Quest for the evening.
Thursday- August 30th- Epcot day. We did all the rides of course and had a great time. We had 7pm reservations at Le Cellier. They never disappoint. Great meal. Watched the fireworks and off to the room for the night. No real highlights on this day. Except for one. Saw the Disney team there. Guess they wanted to give out a dream. Never received one. We were the last on the line for autographs with Donald and the castmember asked where were we from and I guess when they heard New York, we lost our shot. She says wow a lot a people from New York are here. Oh well.
Friday- August 31st- 8am reservations at Crystal Palace. Good as usual. After breakfast we do the remaining rides in MK. Too bad Haunted Mansion was closed. Thank god my son thought some of the rides were kiddie rides. Go back to the room around noon. Starts to rain so I do laundry.
A few of us are in the laundry room watching a few crazy people playing in the pool while its thundering and lightening. So we sit and watch them betting how long it will take them to get out.
Sure enough they run out of the pool and leave. After the rain we head back to MGM. Why? Son wanted to ride Rock and Roller Coaster again. No problem. After MGM we go back to DTD and to Disney Quest. Get my Margarita and back to Earl of Sandwich. Had a great time there.
Saturday- Sept. 1st - Have 12:30 reservations at Coral Reef. Get on a few rides and go to lunch. Nice restaurant. Food okay. After Epcot, we go back to...you guessed it....MGM. Rock and Roller Coaster..here we come. So after that one ride we go back to MK to watch the Spectromagic parade and wishes again. If was fun to watch the castmembers playing Duck Duck Goose with the kids in front of the castle. You don't see that everyday. Son had a good time.
Sunday- Sept 2nd- Last day. Did the Flight Check In with our luggage. Had a 8:50pm flight home. Put our carryon bags in the luggage room. Went to AK and had breakfast at Pizzafari. They served breakfast since Tusker House was closed. Rode Expedition Everest for the last time and then headed back to DTD. Rode the bus to the French Quarter side and walked around and took pictures. Got on the boat and rode to DTD and to Earl of Sandwich for the brownies. Got to try them. Such sin. Went to Disney Quest for a few hours and decided to head back to the hotel at 4pm. Had to get the bus at 6pm. Thought we had plenty of time. WRONG.
First of all, the skies darkened and it started thundering and lightening. So they shut the boats down. So we had to catch the bus. So I figured. OK Margarita for the road. Caught the bus and it headed to Typhoon Lagoon. Well let me tell you. We were stuck in the parking lot for almost 2 hours. There was a car accident in the parking lot and the police shut it down. So you know there was a group of us who were missing our bus. Made a call to Magical Express and they said to call back once we reach the hotel. Finally got back to the hotel after 6pm. Saw the bus leaving as we were coming in. Called Magical Express and they said they would dispatch a bus to come pick us up. It was now almost 7pm. A bus came but was only dropping off. He called the main office and he nicely took us to the airport by way off Wildnerness lodge. Had to drop off a couple. Hoped he got overtime. Well got to the airport around 8pm. Thank Goodness no lines at security checkpoint. Flight left on time and we were in the house by midnight.
I must say we had a great time. Loved POR.
High Points- Margaritas, Earl of Sandwich, Chef Mickeys, Boma and LeCellier. Loved the hotel. It was so peaceful and beautiful.
Low Points- Sometimes the lines for the buses. Took the boat every chance we could. Too bad that was only to get to DTD.
I must say though that the queues for the rides were not bad at all. I think the longest we waited to get on a ride (without fast pass) is about 30 mins. That was for Expedition Everest.
Want to go back next year.
