Hi!

Welcome to the boards!!! All you need to do is call 1-407-wdisney. You need to request a room in the Alligator Bayou section.(with 5 people on your reservation, this is what you will get automatically, unless one quest is under 3) I would request building 14 in the Alligator Bayou section, as it is closest to the food court & shopping & main bus stop. You could also request buildings #15, or 18. you will love POR. It is really really beautiful, and relaxing. Be sure to take the boat to Downtown Disney if you get a chance!:)

We just got back a few weeks ago from our stay at POR. We were in building 24 in Alligator Bayou. It is a bit of a trek from the main building, but is right next to the west bus depot. I had arranged with a local company to have an electric scooter there at the resort for my gram (they dropped it off and picked it up). She has really bad arthiritis, but the scooter made the resort really managable. Her and my pap were able to head right over to the bus stop and get on and off at the close bus stop without heading all the way over to the main building.

Any questions, just let me know.

There are no elevators at the Alligator Bayou. If handling the stairs after a long day at the parks would be an issue, ask for a first floor room.

When my mom went with us I requested building 14, 1st floor and told them my mom would be with us and couldn't do a lot of walking and we got a room that was awesome. When we stood outside our door we were looking right at the food court and the bus stop was close as well.

what local company did you use. that is an awesome idea, we were just going to try for one each day at the park. prob cheaper too! thanks for the tips!

If you go to the disABILITIES Board and look at the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the thread list, you will find a list of the off-site companies that DIS posters recommend. There are phone numbers and links to their websites.

It is less expensive to rent from off-site and the ECVs are smaller and a bit easier to drive.

The past 3 trips we have stayed at POR and requested a handicapped access room for 5 and we are always, and I mean ALWAYS in the back near the parking lot in the mansion section. Last trip I even made sure the room we didnt want was written in the ressie, I called the day before and told them ALligator Bayou and not Mansion......I was in the same room again....for the third trip!!!! There is not way to make sure. I was so disappointed. The room was very nice but very far from the main bldg. I called after our trip to ask what had happened as I had spoken to someone the night before who assured me we would be in ALligator Bayou and they said that there is no way to assure you will get what you request. I told them I understood but we were in the same room for the past 3 trips. We went through Special services and I spoke to someone on 3 differenet occasions at POR. We are going again in Aug of 2008. I think I am going to just call again and BEG and PLED for them to not put us in the same room again.I don't know what else to do.

I used Care Medical Equipment .http://www.caremedicalequipment.com/

They were really great. It was $200 for the week, but they had it there waiting for us when we got there, and picked it up from the hotel after we left. I figured the resort was so big she would need one at the hotel as well as the parks. My poor grandfather had to have a day of rest from trying to keep up with her (to proud to get one for himself).

If you do this and have any problems at all with the buses, please let me know. I think Disney has a real weakness with their handicapped assisting bus drivers.
