I like the mansions better. I just think they're prettier and I feel more like I'm staying at a "deluxe" resort! My DH likes AB better though because of the country feel. He feels like he's away at camp! You really can't go wrong with either one - POR is an awesome resort!
I think it really just depends on which theme you prefer. I'm a big fan of the mansions. I like the more formal feel and all the formal gardens/courtyards. For me, part of the fun of staying at POR is just strolling around and looking at all the landscaping. As long as you pick a building close to Ole Man Island (the main swimming pool), you'll still only be a short walk across the bridge to the food court/main hub.
The first few years I went to POR I would only stay at the Mansions - I had zippo interest in AB. Then one trip there wasn't an option and I was "stuck" in AB - LOVED it! I love both sections, but I think the woodsy-feel of AB is more attractive to me. Basically I'd stay in both, but lean towards Alligator Bayou more (which means this was no help to you)
I like them both! AB has more of a cabin in the woods/swamp feel. The buildings are smaller and only two stories. Because the buildings are smaller you have a greater chance of getting a corner room with corner windows. Room interiors are more rustic. Bed frames are made from cut logs. Mansions are very refined! Two to three stories, large pillars and sweeping staircases. I felt like I was in a scene from Gone With the Wind. The grounds/gardens are fantastic! It's my favorite resort landscaping. The rooms are very elegant. If you request a water view you'll probably get a great view of the sassagoula river. It's nice to sit and watch the boat to downtown go by. Just keep in mind that just because you request a room in AB or Mansions does not guarantee that you will get that section. I requested
Mansions on my first stay but got AB. But I was not upset in the least. You can't go wrong with either section. I would suggest checking out www.allearsnet.com they have lots of interior room pictures as well as exterior and a resort map. It might help with your decision making.
Although I think the woodsy feel of the AB's are very cute, I am more of a Mansion type of gal and love to stay there. IMO all the mansions are close to either main bldg or Ole Man Island with very short walks. I also love the individual gardens around each of the mansions, it's very serene. The entir resort is very serene. Have you looked at the pictures of the resort on this site and Deb's site at wdwig.com? Sometimes I think looking at a few pictures may sway you in a definate direction.
Alright for those of you who have stayed at the POR I have a question. I would love to stay in one of the Mansions. Too many times watching gone with the wind I guess.
Is there a certain Mansion I should suggest? I already requested a Mansion but not one in peticular. Or am I better off just keeping my basic Mansion because they will have more choices to give me. Any thought?
I've stayed in both and liked AB better; I felt it had more "character" and was more secluded in feeling. Plus, at most you'll have to walk up only one flight of stairs instead of 2.
Definitely check out Deb's pictures at www.wdwig.com
