We'll be staying a week in Sept and I am wondering which section people prefer and why?

Kids want AB and I like the Mansions. So I am wondering what others think.

Well I am not too much help because I haven't stayed there yet. But from looking at all the pictures here
http://www.portorleans.org/ (A wonderful site operated by one of our members!) I really prefer the look of the AB sections:)

We decided long ago that Port Orleans was the ideal resort for our Disney trips and we return year after year. We have stayed at both sections, and also love to stay at French Quarter. This year we are doing a split stay - POFQ and POR. DD25 wants AB section this time.

Why don't you start with the mansions, and on your return visit to Port Orleans (I am sure you will want to return), choose AB. :)

Before our stay at POR I waned to stay in the mansions section as I liked the look of them and the decor better. However, when we checked in our room was in AB building 18 and we loved it!!! We walked the whole resort and decided that we liked the feel of the AB section with the lush trees and such much better as it made the building feel less like a building in a huge resort and instead like a more private secluded stay. I don't think you can really go wrong with either though it is a beautiful resort with a lot of fun things to do.

I think that the Alligator Bayou is a more immersive experience with the lush greenery and the theming. Plus, it is nice that all the buildings have one less floor than the mansions. I just didn't feel that spark in the mansions, and I was all set up to love it (I am a Gone with the wind junkie) Beware, if you have less than 5 people in the room, sometimes you can't get AB. We had requested it and were forced to be in the mansions because they were accomodating the big families who needed the trundle.

This is probably our favorite WDW resort. We went down with my in-laws once and while we stayed in the AB side, they stayed in the mansion side for wheelchair accessibility. DH, kids, and I absolutely LOVED AB - so lush and beautiful! When we would go over to my in-laws room, I was so happy we weren't staying over there. It just seemed lifeless to me.

I've stayed in both and personally, I like the mansions. I'm not much of a "rustic camping kind of girl" and Alligator Bayou felt a little like staying in a tree house. Now, don't get me wrong, it was very cute and well themed. it just wasn't for me.
The mansion side has really pretty gardens and paths and it just seemed so lovely to me. The mansion side is a bit more "manicured" where the AB side is a little more lush, Louisiana Bayou feel. Both are wonderful and no matter what you choose you won't go wrong :yay:

We have stayed there four or five times and we always ask for the mansions. We love the landscaping and the fountains at each one. POR is big but it has a good layout so there really isn't a bad room location. If only it had the upgraded rooms like CSR!!!

I like the Bayou section more. It seems more peaceful and secluded than the Mansion section.

the rooms are the same size with the same size beds....

So being a big kid myself...I say go with whatever the kids want!!!:cool1:

Happy kids = happy vacation

I like both sides of the resort, however, being a family of five we have not stayed in the mansions section since '07. That being said we have truly enjoyed our yearly stays in the AB section. Enjoy your trip!

I have stayed in both and prefer AB. '

Just remember AB holds families of 5 so as far as I know the larger families will get assigned that section first.

I love the AB. Have never stayed in the Mansions though. AB seems more landscaped to me and love the trundle bed.
