OK, for our up-coming POR trip, I'm interested in hearing from all you POR pros....which would you prefer to stay at if given the choice & why? I know the decorating is a little different between the two but there must be other reasons as well....I'ld love to hear your take on it.

We like staying in resorts where the themeing (both inside and outside of the room) is unique. Since we live in the south, the Mansions just don't seem like anything special. Our kids especially like the "rustic" furnishings in AB.

For our upcoming WDW trip I requested the Mansions
and I grew up in Louisiana.
I always wanted to stay at a Plantation Home
(I was a tour guide for a few years and loved it)
and I find that there are enough Rustic homes
there (South) already.
Hope we get the Mansions, I love the landscape
with the manicured flower beds, which takes
pleanty of effert to keep them looking that way.
I like it because it looks clean and organized. :thumbsup2

The mansions since they are so close to the food court, and I think they are so beautiful!

I would love to get some more thoughts on this!! Anyone??

There is a wonderful warm coziness in the bayou! I just loved it so much. I always wanted to stay in the mansions and honestly was bummed when we had to go bayou since we are a family of 5. I have to tell you, I fell in love with alligator bayou. From our building, we could make a right and be a few steps from the food/lobby/giftshop or make a left and be a few steps to the bridge that leads to ole man island. Our location was so perfect! Any pictures you see of the bayou will not do it justice I guarantee you. Seeing in person is believing!

Well, we requested 3 times to stay in AB and got the Mansions. I was extremely upset because the decor looked like my mother's room!!! Also, we were not very close to the food court and that stunk. And on top of that, the bus service was crappy. :(

Now, on a good note. :) The Mansions are really pretty and our room was clean. We did pay for a water view and that was a joke. I don't recommend that. The grounds are beautiful and the resort is very peaceful after a day at the parks. The food court food was good and not very crowded when we were there. All in all we had a nice trip, but I am still not over paying that much for a "Disney" resort and feeling like I was staying with my mother.

Yeesh, now I really don't know which one to pick!! :confused3 Would you say that there is more plants & trees in the AB section or is it equal to the mansion section? I ask because my DH just feels more relaxed around nature & well, there's not a lot of that at the parks so I thought it might make his holiday nicer if we stayed at a place that has lots of greenery!!

I thought I would HATE AB but OH MY!!! It was so great!! Pictures DO NOT do it justice and a lot of the pics I see around here are of the older rooms not the remodeled rooms with the brighter colors and such!

It was great and we were in 14...AB....IT WAS GREAT!

In Sept I may go for Mansions but do not know what bld to request

If anyone has any up-dated room pictures of either the AB or the Mansions, I would love to see them!!

To be honest, which area we stayed in, mansions vs AB, seemed to be more of an issue before we arrived in WDW. ;) Once we are there, it seemed unimportant which section we stayed in. Both are very nice. It just seemed like once we got to the resort, we just wanted to get going to the parks. We got to walk through both sections during our stay, so got the best of both worlds, but really, the theming of your room/area becomes surprisingly minor once you get unpacked and out to the parks. Well, at least in my experience. ;)

This will be our second year at the POR. We stayed in building 39, second floor, across from a quiet pool and it was great. The lush landscaping is so beautiful and getting back late from the parks, and walking through the lite walkways to your room is really nice and relaxing. There really isn't anything that I can say bad about this resort because we loved all of it!!!!

I prefer the mansions for the theming. There are good and bad room locations on both sides.

I prefer Mansions.. but with my family size we need the trundle to AB it is.

With the great room only rates, I've changed our stay to POR. I didn't request either AB or the Mansions. We did request a King room. Do most folks request, or do they let Disney choose?

Are there more King rooms at either place, or are they pretty evenly split up?

Thanks in advance! I'm so looking forward to our stay-first time on property!

I voted for the Mansions although I love the AB when I was there in February.

The main reason why I love the Masnions is that I love using the East Bus depot. The Main Bus stop is always so busy and congested. The East Depot is serene, like the rest of the resort.

Also the Mansions are close the food court and pool, yet they are still separated by the river and seem a mile away.

I am planning a trip to POR in June 2008 (C'mon rates!) I am requesting connecting rooms so I am fine with mansions or AB. The grounds are so beautiful from the pictures I have seen! I wonder if there are connecting rooms at this resort?

Yes there are connecting rooms, because I was in a room (In AB) with a door in it that connected to the room next to it. We never heard a sound come from the other room though.

We stayed in both and both are nice, but I really like the AB best. I think it might be the rustic design and landscaping.
