POP'ers who have bonded - (new home!)

Our poor little thread.... :sad1:

Michelle - The name of the town you told us about... what is the traslation? I thought it meant hot water or something like that. Am I even close?

I had a good weekend, and a very busy day. The weekend seemed short though, since DH didn't get home from his business trip until Sat PM.

Yup Hot Waters.

It's a Natural Spring state, where they used to have Roman Bath style bathing and the like. Their water parks are warm (a bit warmer than bath water) and it's called Ojo caliente (hot Eye as in eye of the storm kind of thing). In fact in all the homes there are 3 knobs in the shower instead of 2 and the middle knob is the cities natural spring water which has naturally warm water and they don't have to use a water heater if they can get into the shower pretty early. (Alot of people in this big city make the water disappear pretty fast! haha)

Hey Tia--what can you tell me about cost of living and such in Denver? I really really liked it out there (minus the speeding ticket), and we are thinking about a move...but we need to figure out how much it costs. I'm kind of afraid to move, so it'd be great if we can find an apt to live in to make sure we liked it before selling and buying. But one of the locals told me everything was really expensive there, so I thought you'd know.

Wow, it's goo to know all fo the years living here and at least I know hot waters and how to order a beer!
That is very cool about the natural hot springs. It would be great to have a ready made supply of hot water. Kind of like the tankless versions here only better I am sure! And there it is free whereas tankl;ess here will cost you a pretty penny.
Any plans to go back?

Denver housing can be expensive. But you are from the east coast, so I can't imagine it being much more than what you pay now. But that might just be an ignorant westerners comment! ;) Lori rents her apartment and I am not sure if she want me to say how much it is, but I can tell you it is similar to what nice apartments around here go for. When I was there last summer I went to the grocery store several times and I did not find the cost of groceries to be any more than they are here. The benefits are, well you will be living in Colorado! Which is one of the greatest places to live in my opinion. The amount of things to do is crazy! And the nice thing is there is stuff going on year round. My brother lives in a tiny town in Colorado and they pay I think around $700 a month for an older 3 bedroom duplex. Their wages are similar to what they would make here. Homes to buy cost more of course. But with the way the market is I am sure you can get a good deal somewhere. My uncle is a real estate agent in CO if you need an agent in Denver, let me know and I will try to get a referral from him. Aurora (as you saw) is a great place to live! It is close enough to the city but you aren't forced to be right in the middle of it all (which would make me crazy!) I think you should go for it!!!! That way I can live through you.

How would your family feel about you guys moving?

Go to bestplaces.net. I just did a comparison between Marana and Denver and Denver is only 8% more expensive than here. So not bad.
Cost of Living Comparison:
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Aurora, Colorado
The cost of living in Aurora, Colorado is essentially the same as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I just looked up apartments there too. A 3 bedroom 2 bath "luxury" apartment will run you around $1300 a month. (well for the listings I saw) I also looked up homes to buy and there was a nice selection under $200,000. Let me know if you need anything else. I know I typed a ton, but I get very excited about things like this. I am such a nerd! But a helpful nerd, so I guess it is ok!
Time to go take my kittens to the vet.
ChaCha on! :rotfl2:

I checked that cost of living site, too...and DH would need a 20,000 raise to maintain our standard of living. We live in central PA, near State College. But it also said housing was a big difference (more expensive in Aurora). I found tons of great houses for us for $150K, which would be a lot less than our current house cost (275K). The only downfall is I don't know if they are good neighborhoods or not...did I tell you my Montbello story?

Both families would be totally opposed to us moving.

OMG that pic is adorable and even funnier now that I learn it's snow! haha!!

Sal is researching move there! Gahh! I would love it, as I have loads of family there and of course my family owns several homes out there that they rent out or if not rented, my grandmother tends to while people are here in the states. Sooo it is a huuge thought. I make more than enough in wholesale and my shop for all of us to stay home and you don't need to do anything to open up a shop there, you just put it in your living room and put out a sign if you so choose! haha! soo we've been thinking alot about it. It would probably take around a year to get enough going, then there is the house and selling or renting and dealing with all that here. It's a nice dream :) For now our next trip in in April of next year for the big month long festival call Feria De San Marcos. We will be selling stuff at a stand outside of the bull fights.
