Have already booked a 10 day trip to WDW in December and am arriving late, late on a Thursday night during the Pop Warner Football & Cheerleading competitions. These events (according to the WDW website) are scheduled to end on Saturday, December 10th. I'm staying at the Movies, as this is what I can afford on this trip (would cost an addition $500+ to upgrade to a moderate). I'm just wondering, as it's going to be the last couple of days of these events, how loud is it going to be? I've been in December before, but have stayed at either the Polynesian or the Wilderness Lodge and it's been the Friday after Thanksgiving through the first week of December. Never been there during one of these and am concerned that the hotel will be crowded & loud. Do the kids practice into the late night? What about at the pools? I put in a request for a room in either the 101 Dalmations or Mighty Ducks area, but am wondering if being by the "quiet" pool would be a mistake. I saw a special on MTV once regarding a group of high school girls going to the competition at WDW and they were pretty loud at night both at the pool and practicing. Do the All Star resorts ever overbook for events like this? How early do they leave for competitions? When do they usually close MGM for them (at the beginning, middle or end of the competition)? Do they practice in the parking lots or where ever they can find open space at the resort?

Im not posititve but I would think they would put the cheerleaders in blocked rooms( I know they ususally put us in one section all together) so I would call and request you are not near them. :)

We were at the movies one year with the "dreaded" cheerleaders. They weren't bad at all. They did start up one night around 10:00 but they didn't last very long and by 10:30, all was quiet. We were never bothered by any noise. I think they pretty much keep to some quiet hours between 11:00 PM and 8:00 AM but maybe I was lucky.

The groups we saw did practice informally on the grassy areas in between the buildings. But, quite honestly, everyone was very polite. The only problem I ever had was with the unchaperoned hoards who just have to talk VERY LOUD while walking through the parks and while standing in line.

I would bet that some of the groups would be leaving as early as the day you arrive. We have been to WDW when this was going on but stayed at the AKL so we never had to deal with them at night. However, during the day and in the parks.....the cheerleaders earned their reputation of being load, breaking in lines, etc. while their chaparones just watched.

I would not let this spoil your trip. Have a GREAT time!

Thanks for your input. This post was not meant as a negative one, just searching for info. I'm a pretty early riser and plan on doing the early emh anyway, so I'll probably be out of the resorts before they head for WWoS. Thanks again for all your information.

In the past, the cheerleaders competed Tuesday through Friday. The football players play Sunday through Saturday (I think). The Pop Warner package stipulates a three night minumum; some families (like mine) stay longer. Some families come for the three nights and leave. It's hard to say how many participants you will encounter.

I actually made a bit of a change to my reservations today. I was planning on flying on late that Thursday night and leave late the following Sunday. Decided to take one more vacation day and leave early Thursday morning and fly back mid-day the following Sunday. With the weather up here in December, you just never know what you will encounter. This way I get a 1/2 day on Thursday and arrive home during daylight (avoiding black ice at night). As this is a solo trip, put in a request for either a room in 101 Dalmations to be close to the main building, especially at night. Not too worried though about Pop & cheerleaders, as it would only be for a couple of days. I think as long as it's quiet at night, I'll be fine. I did not know they only put them in certain buildings, but when I call to confirm the reservation, will mention that to them. Thanks for the info.

The only other change would be to my park schedule. I had planned on going to MGM that Friday night to see Fantasmic and the Osbourne lights, but I hear that's the night they close early for the pop & cheerleaders. Does anyone know for sure if this is the night?
