Hi all, I posted on here last week for views on pop vs asmo and had decided that pop was probably going to be best.
THEN my DH dedcided to put his two cents in and said he liked the look of POFQ! :headache:

It really will depend on prices when the brochures come out here in April.

However I must say that I don't think I have read any negatives on POFQ and the size of the resort does appeal to me. I have read that it is a lovely adult resort, but is it "kiddie fied" as we will be taking our DD for her first ever Disney trip? Do you "feel" the Disney magic at POFQ like you do a value?
I am not so worried about the pool as we are going in Dec so I'm not sure there will be much chance of swimming!

This will all be academic of course if the new AoA is the brochures when they come out as that would probably be my first choice!

But in fairness to my DH I thought I had better ask the questions and then we can decide once and for all!

Thankyou for your help and opinions :goodvibes

Yes, I think kids would love POFQ! It's right on the river, has a fun pool slide. Don't discount swimming in Dec. Winter weather in Florida is unpredictable.
And there is a hot tub too. Also a boat to DTD.

We stayed in POR-Riverside which is just a short walk away from FQ. A friend had a room in FQ, one of the newly renovated rooms- so we had a look. The new FQ rooms are beautiful. They did a great job, 2 queen beds, flat screen t.v., re-did the bathroom/sink area. Nice job. Looks very up scale.
I think I'd pick FQ over AoA too! And the rooms are larger, have 2 sinks, and a fridge.

Sure POFQ will offer you more space and sure the theming is cute but let's be honest... how much time do you really spend at the resort? Every year we book, year after year, we have this conversation and it all comes down to the fact that unless we're sleeping, we're not at the resort. We absolutely love the theming of the value resorts. They may be cheaper but I think when it comes right down to it, they scream "Disney" more than any other. Personally we prefer ASMo but we like POP too. Anyway, to us, there is just no point in paying double for a room we won't be doing anything but sleeping in. :)

Personally speaking.....we always did value resorts, All stars and now we dont go by POP...we love it, but, last year we decided to try a moderate resort CBR. Hubby and I totally loved it but my kids did not. They have already out voted me this year and have chosen POP again...their main reason is they didnt feel like they were at Disney enough. My 8yr olds comments were he flet like he was at a regular hotel last year!!! They just love the bright colors and large animated figures, pools etc. I guess some people dont want to be too Disney-fied when they go on vacation and the moderate resorts are good for that but my kids just love to be everything Disney. I cant wait to see their faces again when we drive in POP again at the end of April this year.
Good luck with your choice:thumbsup2

We have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside (really Dixie Landings back in the day) and loved it up until a few years ago and then we tried POP and won't go back.

The biggest advantage to Pop is the BUS service - it's 1 stop right in front of your resort. When you stay at Port Orleans FQ you have the 1 stop in front but then you have to go to all 4 stops of the Riverside resort before you get on your way - you are looking at about an extra 30 minutes onto your travel time by staying at this resort.

If you drive it is not an issue but we always use the BUS service.

The Food Court at POP is awesome with many choices. We have gone back to both Riverside and FQ to try their food courts but left without trying anything even though we could have had it for free on the dining plan.

Good luck in your choice:hippie:

We've stayed at POFQ 2 years ago and there were plenty of families with young kids who were really enjoying POFQ. Both PO Resorts are wonderfully themed without the in your face overload of the Values, so it's nice to come back from the parks and enjoy your resort. I think the POFQ has something for both Adults and Kids to enjoy. We really liked the boat ride to DTD--we stay at AKL on last trip and my DS said that he missed PO resorts and being able to go to DTD anytime. So we will be staying at POR on our next trip.

I love Pop without a doubt, but for us, ESPECIALLY if we are only in the room to sleep, we like the extra space of queen beds instead of doubles. As far as kid theming, FQ has the jester and the crocs, also the King Titan and sea serpent slide at the pool. It also has a hot tub, as mentioned, and agree that you can't really rule out the pool areas in December; we went 12/2007 and it was 80's every day, vs this past year when we had one day in the 60s' and the rest of the time was 30's and 40's! Needless to say we did NOT swim after that first day! I will note that we did see other people swimming, and the pools are heated year round, so you COULD use the pool and hot tub even in the cold, I just felt this time was too cold to get from my room to the hot tub and back! Also, FQ has beignets which are SO yummy, at their food court. Except for the beignets, Pop has a MUCH bigger/better food court, though.

It all depends on how large a group you will have traveling and how much time you plan on spending at the resort. I spend a LOT of time at the resort so mods and deluxe resorts suit me best.

POFQ is a lovely resort and the pool is definitely more kid oriented. If you go during a busy travel time you will NOT share buses. That only happens when it's a slow period. Out of a half dozen visits to POR to eat dinner and to shop in the stores there, I've only been on one shared bus. :goodvibes

The food court at POR is large and second only to POP, but the food court at POFQ is on the small and slow side. So it really all depends on how much time you plan on staying at the resort. :)
