Pop Up Campsite Question

I went to book a camp site reservation for next Christmas, but only tent reservations are left. Well, I honestly don’t see myself staying in a pop up camper or tent, but $92 a night for a week, plus the cost of a nicer off-site hotel didn’t seem too outrageous. Just curious if anyone has ever booked a week long stay at the campground for dining plan, parking, etc., but never actually used it? I would feel bad taking a site from another family, however, but I can’t find anything else reasonable for those Travel dates for a party of 6. Last year, only 5 of us went and we were able to stay deluxe for a very reasonable price, but apparently adding a sixth person, plus the Christmas travel dates put a nix in that plan.

Please don't do that. Campsites are hard to book for Christmas and yes, you would be taking one away from a family that genuinely wants to stay at a campsite.

Just curious if anyone does this and if that’s why the camp sites are all booked for next year? Instead, we are considering going a different week anyway. We really want to stay on site, and it seems outrageously expensive to go this week in particular.

Yes, certain people do it, which is one reason why it can be so hard to get a campsite at Christmas.

We're camping there the week before Christmas next year, and I was amazed to be able to get a tent site less than 14 months out. I guess we were able to because we're only staying 3 nights.

I'll echo @Shanti's sentiments. There is a whole practice of booking a "throw away" campsite for the onsite benefits while staying off site. While it seems totally harmless, after all Disney is getting money for the unused site and you get onsite privileges, win/win, right?

Except the Fort is the only campground onsite, one of the original "resorts", and has not had any sites added since it opened. As a result, it is very difficult to get a site, especially at busy times. Weeks around Halloween and Christmas book up at the 499 day window. There are many people on the Camping forum that desperately try to piece together reservations a day at a time, hoping for cancellations. And this starts a year out.

Sadly, the "all about me" generations don't think much about how someone else is impacted, as long as they get what they want.

Here's a thought. The Fort is really one of the best campgrounds, anywhere. It offers so much more than the other resorts. You can book a site and rent a camper, fully equipped, already setup, waiting on your site, for about the price of a moderate. Head over to the camping forum and check out all the things staying at the Fort offers that staying anywhere else can't.

Thank you for the suggestion, but this is what we were trying to do in the first place, but I guess I may be confused. The Disney web site showed all full hook up sites booked. A pop up camper wouldn’t allow running water correct? It’s been years since I’ve camped, but my parents do own a camper that I’ve stayed in but it is a one bedroom, with a bathroom and a kitchen. That is more what we were hoping to do.

A pop-up might or might not have running water. But it's not a big RV, which is what your parents have. Those can't park on tent/pop-up sites.

The only difference between a Tent and a Full is the Tent site doesn't have a sewer hook up. I've seen motor homes and bigger 5th wheels on a Tent or Full site. Some people like the locations of the Tent/Full sites, others take what they could get. I have a 5th wheel and can go without needing sewer for 4-5 days. If I used the shower at the comfort station (amazing ones at the Fort), I wouldn't need the sewer hookup for over a week.

Motor homes aren't supposed to park on tent sites.

Oh, I know they're not "supposed to", but I think you've been to the Fort more than I have and you see lots of things that aren't supposed to. I ride or loop through all the loops at some point during my stays. I've seen motorhomes, 5th wheels and travel trailers on the Tent/PopUp sites as well as 3 or 4 tents on a premium. The Fort seems pretty lax as long as you aren't blatantly disrupting the place.

Now, if we can just get them to work on people parking cars/trucks on the edges of the road so I can get all 65 ft of my crewcab dually/ 42 ft 5th wheel around my beloved Preferred loops. I really miss Loop 100, but I just don't fit anymore. Shoot, I barely fit on the Premium site in 1400 that I had in September. Had to put the truck sideways to not block the road.

This is the problem that I'm having right now. I have a 23 foot RV, however the only site I am able to get, Nov-Dec 2018, is the tent/pop up. It's been awhile since we tented, however I did inquire if my RV would be aloud on the pop up site. I can go without water and sewer with the Comfort Stations, I just don't want to be "that guy" if it not a normal practice.

Tight spot Teamubr. But like the parking. We cabin camp at koas all over. Kids hitting college soon so going to go small rv
