Pop-Up Camper

The Fleetwood Avalon is a great buy for a mid sized family IMO. Keep checking Craig list. Sometimes you get good ones at a steal these days.

Iott fam-

If I read right, you have six folks. Think about how big they will be later on 5 or 10 years. Those who may fit on a dinning table know may have issues later....

We have a Hybrid, with queen size fold outs. The burb will make a good tow car, do you have the 1500(6 wheel lug nuts per tire) or 2500(8 wheel lug nuts per tire)? If you have a 2500 you should already have a transmission cooler and guage on the lower left part of the panel. If you don't have a trany cooler it is highly recommend you get one. Also weight distribution hitch is another highly recommend piece of equipment if you go larger than an a pop-up and adds extra stability/safety to the drive.

If you have not visited www.rv.net this is a must go site, there are gigs of info, from towing, where to go and models of campers.

My suggestion, visit all the RV shows and showrooms you can. Walk, listen , question and learn. Take the dreamy thoughts of camper brochures with a grain a salt, unless you are hitting up the DH about how he can drink ICE cold beer, with his feet up, under the awning listening to the game or hanging with his buddies fishing..... tailgating..... or just having fun with the fam.

welcome to the RV addiction!!!!

This might not be the place to post this. Maybe it belongs in the community boards but I have a campers question and I thought I should start in a campers forum!

We are looking into buying a pop-up and "upgrading" our camping from a tent. DH is not a camper so its just been the kids and I with my family BUT he swears he will camp if we get up off the ground. He wants AC/Heat, satelite TV/Radio and comforts. The man thinks motel 6 is ruffing it :lmao:

My mother has a small pull behind camper that sleeps 4, my aunt uses a pop-up that has two full size beds. We are a family of 6 so obviously need something a bit larger. I know nothing about the world of pop up campers. Is there a dummies guide out there to bone up on before we go into a dealership and get a salesmans pitch?

Thanks!

I didn't look in the Indy area but Atlanta and some of the larger cities had some really nice Hybrids on Craigslist in the $5k area. Hybrids IMO are a great camper because you can pack it with your stuff you're taking and it takes less time to set up. I wouldn't bet on it, but in a pinch you could even use it in the partial loops at the fort. I've seen plenty of them in there. Should be a great entry level for you. Good luck looking.

I just got home today from a 4 day camp trip at Turkey Run here in Indiana. It was a soggy trip to say the least! Just fortifies my belief that a camper is what we are needing! Love the tent camping, or maybe I just love camping but between thundrstorms and 90 degree weather it was an interesting few days!!! If we werent batting down the hatches we were sweltering and its only June!

I definitely think a hybrid camper is more of what we need. We have 4 kids ages 4,6, 12 and 14. We had looked at these last Jan. at the Rv show in Indy and I am thinking we need to look at them again.

Originally I was looking at the Fleetwoord highwall trailers, but we didn't go that way for 2 reasons...Fleetwood recently went out of business, so I didn't want to be buying a trailer that we might have warrant problems with later,
FYI Fleetwood sold the pop up business long before Fleetwood went into bankruptcy.

The new owners have renegotiated the marketing deal with Coleman, so the pop ups are branded as Coleman again after several years.

They have been honoring any/all warranty claims under the terms of whatever written warranty was in effect when the trailer was purchased.

We started in a pop up, which I loved, but really wanted a bathroom! So we upgraded to a hybrid, and love it even more! Ours is a 07 Roo 23B, and this is a picture of the back side from Memorial Day. We bought the add a room, which I now call my triple wide!:lmao: (when the slide is out) It is so much easier to set up, and much more storage room than our pop up. The toilet is great too! Good luck on your search, we LOVE our hybrid!
