Hello everyone! We just returned from a fabulous stay at WDW for our honeymoon. We stayed at POP Century and were in room 7422, which is in the 80's section. I'm going to try to hit all the highlights and lowlights of various aspects of our resort.
We had requested a king room and had it on our reservation that it was our honeymoon. We had booked through AAA and had at one point mentioned that we would like to be in the 80s, but told them we would just like to have it noted about the king bed and just hope for the best as far as the decade. Well, we got both! We were on the back side, not facing the pool, on the 4th floor. We were only about 3 rooms from the elevator and a short walk to the parking lot and pool. It was a great location. It was convenient to the main building as well and we walked there several times. We actually drove every day other than the day we went to the waterpark. Riding the bus to Typhoon Lagoon went pretty smoothly though.
Check-in was relatively quick and painless. We were able to pay with Visa rewards points and wound up with only a $30 bill at check-in which was awesome. We had our tickets put on our room keys, which was really convenient. We also purchased our waterpark tickets at the desk there and it also went very smoothly. No complaints at all about anything with the front desk.
I already mentioned that we were pleased with the location of the room. The room itself was nice. It was a handicapped room, however it still had a bathtub, which was my primary concern about having a king room (I had heard they were mostly handicapped and my previous experience with those has been no bathtub). The room was very clean. We did tip mousekeeping everyday and had no complaints about the cleanliness. We requested extra towels for the pool on our first night and continued to receive them every night for the rest of our stay. One night when we came in we found three balloons (one that said just married) and a card that had an autographed card from Mickey and Minnie congratulating us. It was very nice. We did not receive towel animals, but we were not at all expecting them. We did enjoy seeing them in windows as we walked to our room. I bet the kids love them because they are much more kid friendly than the "artsy" ones I've seen on cruise ships.
We only ate in the food court once. We had vouchers, so our food was free (they were given to us). I had the chicken penne alfredo and he had a double bacon cheeseburger. I had the tie-dyed cheesecake for dessert and he had the carrot cake. We were both pleased with our choices. My crispy coated chicken was very fresh. The icee machines were working. We did regret not buying refillable mugs. It didn't seem like something we needed at the beginning of the week, but at the end of the week we definitely saw the value (even though we had drinks in the room). We would have loved to come home to an icee every day!
The computer pool was great. It was large and almost never crowded. We tried the other two pools and found the hippy dippy too crowded and the bowling pin too small. The only problem we had there was one night after the pool had been closed during the storm and reopened, the life guards didn't come back. It was out of control. These guys were throwing a football and hitting people with it and tackling each other and everybody else....Small children were getting hurt. They were oblivious. The pool had lifeguards until 10pm, but was open until midnight, which was great. The temperature was great except that night after the storm.
The commute to all the parks was easy, as was obtaining the free parking at each of them with either our room key or our resort parking pass. Check-out went smoothly and quickly, although we should have just put down a credit card number to do express check-out.
