We're staying at Pop from 7/21-7/30. I think I've read every post on the Internet about rooms at Pop and I'm more confused than ever! :confused3

We're traveling with my parents, and my dad can't walk long distances. He is able to walk just fine, it's just that he has trouble with walking a long way. He stays at the resort most days while DH, twin DS's (6), DGma (56), and myself all go to the park.

Right now we've requested 2 rooms in the 50's, 4th floor, lake view. Is that a hike to Classic Hall?

We are more than willing to pay preferred if it's worth it. It's most important that we're close to Classic Hall for my dad. However, I'm worried about noise if we stay in the 60's facing the HD pool.

Any suggestions for me? HELP!

Thanks!
Kristie :goodvibes

it isn't a long walk.

how about a wheelchair for your dad - so we can enjoy park time with you?

they are free - just ask at luggage service - you have to sign for it.

sometimes just pushing the chair is all the help he needs - so you can put your stuff in the chair.

If you're in the 50s buildings that are closest to the parking lots you'll be pretty close to the food court/gift shop. Although a majority of the buildings are not that bad of a walk anyway, especially compared to walking all day in the parks!

Here's a link to a map of the resort:

We'll be there July 26-31, maybe we'll see you!!

Enjoy!!

I probably would have booked at preferred building, but I guess it's too late now. The 50's section is pretty close to everything. We stayed there twice and it was a fairly short walk to the food court and bus stop. If you look at the map, we were in Building C right near the turn-around. I do have to say that your LAKE VIEW will put you farther away from Classic Hall than you may want to be.

Have you considered renting your dad a scooter (ECV) for the trip? He can toot around the resort on it, take it onto the buses and into the parks. No one needs to push him and it won't matter exactly where your room is.

There are 70s rooms that also come right up to the parking lot towards the front of the property, if you'll have a car on property. You could swing right up to the curb and pick him up and drop him out front of the main building/spare him from walking to the car.

Lake View is what's going to set you way back from both parking and the main building. If you want to gaze at the water, you can always walk around the corner from non-lake view and see it, rather than make Dad walk the extra way to get everywhere else. Chances are you will spend very little time admiring the water vs. walking to and from your room.

I would stress that you want a room near the elevators because of mobility issues. They should be able to accommodate you. Those building walkways are long so any steps you save within the building itself you'll be grateful for.

Downside of being near the elevator in most hotels is that you're near the ice machine, which can be noisy. Have not had that pleasure at Pop, so I can't tell you how loud it is!

Thanks everyone!

My dad isn't needing a wheelchair as he can walk just fine - it's more the distance that he has trouble with. He's very stubborn and I know he'd never even consider it. I think he likes hanging out at the resort anyway!

Can anyone direct me to a map that shows exactly which rooms in which buildings are preferred? I swear I saw such a map at one point but now I can't find it anywhere!

I appreciate your input!

Kristie :)

Hi. I'm going to stay at PC also and found a wonderful copy of the map they give you at check in - its online at Allearsnet.com under Photos w/ text links in the Pop Century section. I think it is the actual map Deb Wills was given when she stayed there. Have a great trip! :)

We stayed in the 50s building prefered room. First floor about a minute walk to everything. Loved it. Lake view is great but the first floor was so easy and convient

Kristie :)

Um, okay, if you really think he's going to spend most of the trip just hanging out at the resort... but keep in mind, the walk from the buses and Classic Hall to ANY room at Pop is shorter than the walk from the MK bus to the Castle, or the Epcot bus to the far side of Spaceship Earth, or the MGM bus to the Great Movie Ride... maybe you can take him grocery shopping with you and have him try out the scooter-type shopping cart to stay with you as you go up and down every aisle? Or, if your parents don't live near you maybe your mom can do that? He can see how painless it will be, and how much he'll enjoy the trip...

Smartykat: Thanks for the map tip! Enjoy your trip!

ndgqccmiller: Great info! What side of the building were you on? I'm guessing it wasn't noisy?

kaytieeldr: This will be our 4th trip with my parents. For the first 3 that's exactly what he's done. And yes, I know it's hard to believe, but he always enjoys staying back at the resort. He eats breakfast with us and then we are usually back for an afternoon break and we see him then. Most nights we do dinner with him. We also do lots of meals with all 6 of us, like CM's for example. We've tried and tried to convince him to come, even for a little while, but I think it's all just a little too "much" for him. Go figure! You know the saying "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"...ours is "You can take grandpa to Disney World but you can't make him go to the parks"! ;)

Hi! :wave2: We stayed at POP in January and my Dad has trouble walking, too. All that I requested was that we were assigned a room close to Classic Hall, as we were travelling with older parents. We ended up with rooms in the 60's buildings facing away from the pool. They were not too far from the Classic Hall. It was great for us.

I was just wondering since it seems like everyone here has stayed at POP, we didnt request a certain era or room but we did as for a preferred room. Does anyone know what area preferred rooms are in?

The areas outlined in yellow are the Preferred room locations.

Thanks so much for posting that link. We've asked for a Preferred room this trip to POP because last time we didn't ask for anything & got stuck in the back of beyond. At least we weren't the only people getting lost trying to find our rooms at night from the food court!! :confused3

Mickey here we come.........:yay:

THANK YOU! That's the map I had seen before and couldn't seem to find again!

You're awesome
You're welcome - but the real thanks should go to WillCAD, a DISBoarder, for and uploading that map (and many others) in the first place! But, um, say there were an imaginary poll to vote for Queen of All Things Disney - could I count on your votes? :teeth:
