We usually arrive a night early, too, and stay at the cheapest we can find which usually ends up being ASMu or ASMo. Our flight often arrives late in the day and we don't plan to do anything but relax.
These are two of my very favorite resorts along with some great DVC stays. In December, I spent a week at Pop Century to make it more of a budget friendly trip. I was a little concerned about it because for several years we have stayed DVC and I hadn't stayed at Pop since 2009. The newly refurbished room photos looked a little stark, but I loved the fresh, clean room and my stay very much. I have fond Pop memories so that may have helped. I requested and received a room in building 9 which is a quick walk across the parking lot to the bus stops. Also I like to request a non-connecting room. If you go to Disney Springs, the Pop Century bus stop is a LONG walk. It's either last or next to last. But as was mentioned already, the buses are more central to most of the eateries.
I love POR very much, too. The night time boat ride to Disney Springs for dinner is a favorite!
