Good Monday morning my fellow DISers. I am planning my trip back to WDW for Thanksgiving break. My family and I love POP Century but I am curious to try a different resort. I have had my eye on Port Orleans and I am looking for pros and cons of this resort. I have never stayed there where I am totally familiar with POP.

Outside of prices, why would/would not you stay at Port Orleans?

My family really likes Port Orleans French Quarter. We've stayed there several times and like the smaller feel of the resort. The things we enjoy are the theme pool, the boat transport to Downtown Disney, the ease of getting around the resort, and the very pretty landscaping and fountains. We have also stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and like it there as well. It is a beautiful resort, but we still prefer FQ. I think you will be pleased with either side. Enjoy your planning.

We love POR. The food court is awesome, one of my favorite CS in all of WDW! The pasta and salad stations are very, very good. I also like having the quiet pools to use...and the boat to DTD is a nice perk. There is lots to do right at the resort, but it has a very quiet, laid back feel to it. The resort is also very lush and shady, which was a wonderful break from the parks. We stayed in the Mansion area. We enjoy the excitement of trying new resorts, but honestly, we are considering FQ our next trip so we can walk or take the quick boat ride to Riverside...

Love POR.

One thing to consider is the water taxi to DTD, and the bus hub.

Many times, I eat dinner at one of the resorts and then come back on the DTD bus from that resort. Then you can just take the water taxi back to POR or POFQ.

Also, if the parks get overflowing with the buses, say at MK, I take the monorail over to say, GF and take the bus back to DTD. It is almost never full, and then you can just walk over to the water taxi.

It is a nice way to end the evening.

I've had my eye on PO for quite some time. So far, it sounds wonderful!

We have stayed at both. My kids (and I) prefer POP. Just because it just feels more like Disney to us. The kids were not just not that excited and giddy at the POR. POR is beautiful and I love it but, for now while my kids are young it is POP for us.

No kids in our group, just us big kids. I think I will have a tough time convincing my mom to stay anywhere other than POP. I want to try some other places.

my problem with it is its just not Disney enough for me never mind my kids...just boring for us..when I go on vacation I want to feel like Im on vacation, not staying in a hotel that looks like Im on business. Hubby felt this way also. For that reason we are heading back to POP this year..infact in 4 days time...whoohoo...good luck with your decision making:thumbsup2

Thanks! I have stayed at POP twice in a row now and am ready for a change. I am seriously leaning toward PO but I think my vote will be nixed and we will be back at POP. Doesn't help that my mom is addicted to the Tye Dye Cheesecake! LOL :rotfl2:

I took my mom to POR with me back in 2004; and she still talks about it to this day.

You may be pleasantly surprised.

My girlfriend and I have stayed at POR on both of our 2 previous trips together. The first time we stayed in the AB section and the second time we stayed in the MB section. We would have no problems staying in either side again (some prefer one over another, we personally don't). The grounds are really nice. When we stayed in the AB section, we stayed the week between Christmas and NYE. It is the busy time of year, but we felt like we hardly ever saw anyone. It was very peacful. The MB side is much more open than the AB side, with the fountains and mansion look giving a bit of a majestic feel.

The boat ride to DTD is nice, especially at night. Piano Bob is some good entertainment at night on site. For about $35-$40 they have horse drawn carriage rides at night that go around the grounds at POR which are very nice and relaxing. There are 4 seperate bus depots on the grounds, so it is never really much of a walk to get from the bus to your room at the end of the day. We usually head back to our room after breakfast to take a bathroom break then walk to whatever bus depot is closest to our room since the south depot (out by the main building) is usually crowded in the mornings and is often the last stop to get picked up (from our expereince) before heading to the parks.

In the end we would be staying there on this trip as well. However, we decided that we may not be heading back together for a while so we decided to stay at AKL. If my parents decide to take my sisters family as well as myself and my girlfriend after the Fantasyland expansion is finished, we will recommend POR for all of us to stay at.

Thank you for your input! I too and so excited for the expansion! I am hoping it will be open when I am back in June '12. Might be wishful thinking. princess:

I would definitely go with PO. The resorts are gorgeous, better dining options, bigger rooms, newly refurbished rooms at POFQ and coming soon at POR.

maybe you can try talking her into a split stay...so that she can have her POP and everyone can also get the feel for something new. We LOVE POFQ and will be staying there for the 2nd time in 10 days. We also did POR last trip and that was a great resort as well. The boat to DTD is so great and the small feel of POFQ is perfect.

Not a bad idea! :thumbsup2
