My family of 4 is going in September for free dining... We are booked at Pop for 13 nights... Now we are thinking that we should upgrade to a moderate... We like the look of CBR and the kids would love the pool... Is it worth the upgrade... It would cost about 750 for a standard room or 1100 for a preferred room... I am driving myself crazy with this... We have stayed at Pop for 6 nights before and last year did 9 nights at ASMo... We like the value resorts, but the little bit of extra room be better for that long??

Thanks!

If the extra money won't cause you any strain, go for it. I am a big fan of the values and in fact have done as much as 10 nights at both Pop and ASMO. However, 13 nights is a long trip! With that long of a trip, you'll have plenty of time for the parks, so you'll want down time at your resort. CBR is wonderful, that new pool area looks great and the bigger room is nice. CBR rooms are the largest of the mods and the extra storage, space and two sinks all make four people in one room a bit less cramped!

Again, I love the values. But for longer trips, the mods are awfully nice. I so wanted to upgrade for our June trip from Music to CBR or CSR but waited too long! So if you decide to do this, do it soon, if you wait you might lose out like I did!

And for me, I'd do standard. There is no section of CBR that is longer than 7-10 minutes at a leisurely pace to the main area. And each "village" has a bus stop and quiet pool right there. From our Barbados location, we had about a 5-7 minute walk to OPR and given the beauty of the resort, it was a pleasure, not a problem! So for me, I'd split the difference and go with the ugrade but do standard.

I just booked CBR for Sept. I was at POR and decided that CBR would be a great place for the kids. I really wanted to stay at WL, but that is a whole different story. Anyway, the pirate rooms look really cool and the whole resort looks so tropical! Hope this helps!

We have not stayed at a value resort but we have stayed at the CBR. From what I read the main difference between value and moderate resorts that would matter to my family of four is the moderate's pools are more elaborate with slides and the values don't have slides. So, I would vote for paying for the pool upgrade for your kids! My kids loved the CBR for its pools, pirate theming and rooms. Good luck!

I vote for CBR! I have stayed at both and like them both but love moderates!

Thanks everyone! I will be calling my travel agent in the morning to upgrade to CBR!!! I am so excited... We are not going to tell our kids, just let them figure it out when we get there...

Thanks for all the help!

As you can see from my sig, we are upgrading to CBR this year. We love Pop, but the pool rehab at CBR alone makes it worth the upgrade to us.

We have stayed at both and like both....but I would go for the CBR because we like the themeing better and if the $ would not be an issue def go for it....I would not stay preferred tho, that is a waste of money for us.

Just 26 more days and we will be at the CBR..cannot wait!

We have small kids so Pop was better for us. At CBR we had to take a bus just to get to the main area! Hated it!

I have stayed at almost every Disney property (only 2 haven't visited). CBR is our absolute LEAST favorite resort on any Disney property. It is SO spread out, your children will literally (not even exaggerating) be exhausted walking to the pool or bus stop, and don't even think of getting the refillable mug unless you're planning on a 2 mile walk daily. The rooms are OK, but nothing to write home about.

Both resorts have 2 double beds, and the big difference in size from POP to Caribbean Beach is..hold on to your hats..a whopping 40 square feet. The moderates do have a slide which is a plus, but definitely not worth double the cost of a value...just my .02.

For the price I would suggest an upgrade to Port Orleans or Coronado Springs, but if it were me, I'd stay @ POP. We absolutely LOVE POP and actually have to include it on our DVC stays, we love it that much! It's up to you, enjoy no matter which you choose!

Hi! Congratulations on your upcoming trip. We stayed at POP last year and CBR/CSR just last week.

We loved CBR-we stayed in a Pirate room which was in the futhest village from the pool and OPR. It literally took us 5 minutes to walk there from TS and we were in one of the buildings (#37) that is further from OPR-still 5 minutes. I made a point of timing our walk multiple times BECAUSE of all the chatter on the DIS about how far X building is from OPR at CBR.
I said this in another thread recently (based on personal experience)
It takes 5 minutes to get to OPR from TS at CBR (TS is the furthest village)
It takes at least 5 minutes to get to Dig Site pool from Casitas at CSR
It takes at least 5 minutes to get from the 50's at POP to the bus stop
It took at least 5 minutes to get to the bus stop from our room at WL

I think it is all relative-you are at a Disney resort to enjoy the theme, convenience, and amenities. Choose whichever one appeals to you most and don't worry about a couple minutes (literally)of walking. It is a drop in the bucket compared to the walking you do at the parks.

I would ABSOLUTELY choose CBR over POP, POP just wasn't our bag, baby:rotfl:

Whatever you decide-have a GREAT trip:wizard:

:hippie:

Thank you for all of your opinions! It really helps... My travel agent did get us upgraded to CBR... We went with a standard room...

What village should we request?? I am almost thinking Aruba or Jamaica across the bridge...

Any thoughts?

I would totally upgrade to CBR. We have stayed at ASMo, CBR & POP and loved ASMo & CBR. We were not fans of the POP at all (don't flame me guys), I am not sure if I was just disappointed by all the hype of the POP or not.

CBR is very peaceful definately not the hustle and bustle of the POP or All Star Resorts. My kids loved the pool, they do the hair wrapping there and we also rented bikes and rode around the resort.

The only down side to the CBR is it is definately a walk if you are not staying in a preferred room. We stayed in Jamaica and when we wanted to walk to Port Royale it was definately a hike. They do have busses that run from each Island and back to Port Royal.

Martinique or Trinidad North?? Are those all preferred rooms? They were the bus stop before and after OPR..

Our family liked staying in Aruba the best. It was somewhat close to the bridge and had great views of OPR across the water. We felt it was also a bit quieter than islands closer to the big pool. Enjoy your stay, we are planning a trip for 2010.
