Pop or a mod?

We've stayed and enjoyed Pop for the past two trips - but with the new late summer rates, we can stay at CSR, POFQ OR POR for the dates we need, for less than 500 for the 10 days.

It is worth the money to upgrade to a mod? And if yes, which one would you recommend?

TIA!

I think it is worth it. The rooms are slightly larger, but for me it is all about the theming. It is much more mature at the mods than any of the values, but depending on the ages of your kids, that might not be a good thing! I have only stayed at both of the Port Orleans resorts, so I can only speak to those, but they are beautiful! They are also closer to the parks, which makes traveling much easier! Good luck!

Absolutely, you should consider a moderate (if it is affordable). The differences are significant.

As for which one, we've stayed at CBR and CSR loved both. We think Coronado Springs is the better of the two (absolutely magnificent!). On our next visit next spring, we will be staying at Port Orleans. We haven't decided which one yet, as we've never stayed at POR or POFQ.

If cost is a huge consideration, then the values are great (we've stayed at POP, ASsports, and ASMovies. In fact, ANYTHING on-property is better than off property. But, the mods are much better than the values. So if the money is right, then you should absolutely stay in a moderate.

Well we usually don't have a choice because we have 3 kids. ;) But if you read my post about our recent stay at POP, you'll see we really liked it. I honestly think for us it would depend on how much time you'll be spending at the resort. If you're in the parks the vast majority of the time , to me it's a waste of money to upgrade. JMHO. If you're going to spend down time relaxing, and doing the parks leisurely, then I'd say the mods are worth the extra money. Everyone has different preferences, so many on the Dis rave about CSR and we didn't care for it. We like all the other mods, and had a really nice relaxing stay one year at the CBR. Good Luck on your choice!

I totally agree! We hardly spend any time at the resorts when we are there, so it makes no sense for us to spend more on a room. If we were planning to lounge around, then we would definitely upgrade.

Definitely a mod! Better pool, slide, food and transportation. Check out my CSR website below for pics and info.

Nope! We saw little difference between Pop and a moderate hotel (same small rooms, double beds, rooms opening to the outside). Plus the mods are HUGE!!! Pop is compact and has terrific bus service.

I would take the extra money and put it towards a longer stay, more souveniers, or even towards the next trip before I would stay at a moderate again!!

We've stayed at a moderate (Port Orleans French Quarter) and the Pop last time (with teenagers). For the proximity by boat to Downtown Disney, the French Quarter was better. I liked staying at the Pop though. Bus service was fine, our room didn't feel any bigger than a moderate. We found the theming fun and loved the retro music and memorabilia. I think we were in the 70's building, first floor at the end of a wing with a view of the lake. Very peaceful and quiet, however we weren't there much. Laundry facilities were fine, food court was adequate. No complaints at all.

As someone who, whilst booking the last trip for 4 adults, proudly declared "we dont use the pools and all we do at the resort is sleep so we might as well save the money and go to Pop!" :rotfl2: I can now confidently say that I will never stay at a value again unless I am forced into a scenario where I have to choose between either staying at a value or not going at all :scared1:

It may only be the base camp for when you get back from the parks but believe me, it's the lovely little things that you don't think about that make all the difference.

That (and Buzz) is why im off to CSR next trip :thumbsup2

For our family it would be worth it. We prefer CSR to Pop--we love the Dig Site pool area, the hot tub, the beautiful architecture and decorations and the extra room size. But if you really love Pop, you may not think it's as big a deal.

My own personal opinion would be to stay at a moderate resort rather than POP. It seemed like POR was more relaxed and not as hectic as POP, probably because there were a ton of kids at POP....which is fine, we love kids, but POR just felt like a more laid-back atmosphere.....at least when we were there, which was this past January (maybe POR is more hectic at some times of the year). As a previous poster stated, I think the theming at the moderates (at least at POR), is more of a mature nature. Nothing wrong with staying at POP, but my preference is POR (or CBR or CSR). I did think the bus service at POP was pretty good, if I remember correctly, I think there is one main bus pick-up point at POP....at POR there are several pick-up points for bus transportation, and it makes 4 stops (I think) around the resort. I didn't think the rooms at any of the moderates were any larger than rooms at POP.

If you can get a good deal on a mod, it's SO worth it.

We loved POFQ. We took the boat to DTD or walked over to POR every day. The resort was peaceful and beautiful, a much different feel than Pop.

The beds were more comfortable, there were more dining options because you could get to DTD easily, or over to POR. Loved the horse and carriages going through at night, and we rented a surrey in the am. Pool was nicer.

Go for the mod!

Totally go for a moderate! They are all so beautifully themed and much more relaxed feeling. I've stayed at both of the Port Orleans resorts and they are both great with POFQ being my personal favorite. I'd suggest looking at pictures of all of them and choosing the theming that appeals to you most. Good luck with your decision!

I'd definitely pick CSR over Pop. I love CSR for the atmosphere, great CM's and the deluxe-lite feel. CSR offers a spa, salon, full menu room service and fitness center not to mention a terrific main pool area and the best transportation that is not shared with any other resort.

I am a moderate snob and CSR is my fave too.

I would choose CSR any day over POP. People rave about POP's bus service, well CSR is 1000x better because its buses often go without filling to full capacity since CSR is also a convention hotel.

How can you get a rate of less than $50 per night for a mod? Or are you saying its less than $500 more to stay at a mod?

Are you taking kids? I would say it depends on what you are looking for. My little guy loves loves loves Pop, and my big kids love Pop. If you have kids in between their ages however they might want a slide at the pool. My experience with the mods is lots of walking, where Pop is a little more compact, so that might make a difference too. Also, the mods have a hot tub if you would use that.

I would chose any hotel besides POP. Have stayed here twice and find it truly horrendous.

The people, the food, the noise, the sheets, the smoking, the screaming, the lack of theming. Putting a giant rubik's cube over a stairwell is not my idea of theming - nor are big metal discs painted to look like cd's very attractive.

I actually like the values better than POR. POR is way too spread out-you can request a room close to the food court but its just a request. I like that the bus stops at the resort have queues at that values-it could be a real free for all at POR. The food court at the values fit my picky eater better-no hot dogs or PBJ's at the moderates though POR did have very nice made to order pasta bar for the adults.

It will be hot when you go so the fridge would be very nice to have in a moderate.

I like that POFQ is compact and has the boat to DTD.

I'd say a MOD because it's nice to come back to a
Relaxing Resort after spending a long day at the Parks.
We've stayed at POR and CSR and will be staying at POFQ
this upcoming trip. We've had wonderful stays at both.
We really enjoyed the Boat to DTD at the PO resorts,
it was fun and a nice change of pace.
MODs also have Hot Tubs to relax in after the parks.
Also, most MODs (exception of POFQ)
have a TS restaurant that is very good.
It's very easy to walk over to POR from POFQ to
eat at "Boatwrights" TS Restaurant.
Beautiful Landscaping (NO Large ICONs is a PLUS).
I think you will really enjoy stayng at a MOD.

Count me in as a "moderate" snob. We stayed at a value once with our kids and we all hated it--DH and me and our two boys who were 12 and 10 at the time. Way too crowded and noisy for us. We--all of us--boys included have loved all of our stays at the CSR. It is a very large resort, but that is also what makes it peaceful and serene. The pools have never been overcrowded when we were there (and you have three quiet pools to choose from beside the main pool) and the playground, the arcade, the hot tub, the spa/fitness center for mom and/or dad, etc. We think the CSR is as close to a deluxe as you can get without having to pay the price of a deluxe (and with two boys in college, a deluxe is not in our future plans any time soon...which is fine because we love the CSR).
