Pop, Not That Great

We were at POP last week as well. Building 6, second floor. The only noise problems that we had were the people next door. They would come in very late and were very loud and vulgar. We started calling them "F'n Kevin and his friends". Seems like saying the word "f%#@ " was only way they knew to express themselves.

We (2 adults) stayed at Pop in 50's building, building 2, 3rd level and had a great view of Epcot's Spaceship Earth. It was very quiet. It is noisy around the pools. But We loved it and are going go again in January. Pop Century seems to have more of a Disney feel than the others resort. Although we will think twice about having breakfast at Everything Pop. VERY CROWDED in the morning. But this was just last week.

Your visit sounds like ours... never again will we stay there, I need my sleep! We even heard conversations from next door - and they weren't being loud or anything. Their alarm even woke us up at 6am =(

Sorry your visit was similar to ours, and I agree an upgrade does the trick! Hope the rest of your trip was great!

I loved the resort the two times I stayed. It was very quiet.

Perhaps it was your neighbors who were the problem? When I stayed at AKL, I had a screaming, stomping brat-child above me who never stopped screaming and jumping or whatever he was doing. I blame the people in that room. Not the hotel.

Maybe it just depends on where your room is situated, the time of year (busy season or other), how lucky you are with who your neighbors are and how sensitive to noise you might be!

Toilet flushes I can take but not talking and t.v. noise.

We stayed at Pop when it first opened, we enjoyed our stay there. True it does not have all the comforts of a moderate or deluxe resort but for us we spent majority of time at parks. We didn't have any problem with noise,it was dead quite.

sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. We stayed at Pop for the second time and love this place. The noise level dosen't seem that bad for us. We stay in the 60s section overlooking the pool and although we do hear some noise, it never keeps us up. We are so exhuasted that we sleep like babies everynight.

no matter where I stay. I have stayed at Hilton's, Marriott's, Wyndham's, Etc, and if the rooms next to us are occupied, I hear noise. Perhaps I have supersonic hearing, perhaps all hotel walls are just a little on the thin side, I don't know. Luckily, I have trained myself to sleep wearing earplugs. We are staying for 6 nights at the Pop in November, and it sounds like I am going to be glad for my plugs!!

I did a split stay (POP and BWV) in May and never heard a sound at either. Saying that, I did another split stay this past January (WL and AKL) and at AKL had the kid from hell next door. I'm not one to spank kids, but that kid deserved a beating. He went to bed screaming and woke up screaming. I swear his favorite past time was beating and kicking on our wall. In the mornings he beat on our door EVERY morning as he went past, (along with everyone else's door he passed). His parents never even tried to do anything with him and were usually laughing and almost as loud as he was. In fact they seemed to be encouraging him, thinking it was funny. Excuse me, but not everyone wants to wake up at 6:00am while they're on vacation!

newchic99....That's a funny story! I hope you still had a F'n good time! Kevin sounds like one of my neighbors here in Jax.....:) Not a wide range of verb words but excels at Math! ;)

We have stayed at the Pop three times and have always heard noises. For those who haven't you must have had empty rooms next to you. The noise of flushing toilets and running showers can drive you nuts. The beds are horrible on your back. Even if I'm there for the parks I do need to sleep. The biggest reason I stay is for the price. I think this year we will be upgrading ourselves. I know there is a difference between the Boardwalk and the Pop.I'm hoping to get a bigger more comfortable bed. That alone will be worth it.

After reading all these posts, I, too feel the need to post. We stayed at PC Aug 9-11 and then moved to Poly, for 5 nights...big difference in resorts however, big difference in price. I liked Pop, I did not LOVE Pop. I know I am going to get flamed for this, but some of the clientelle is just plain - rowdy. I am sure it is because it is a Value resort, so alot more people can go there, affordably. There were alot of children there, which is a good thing, however, alot of the children were left unsupervised, even at the pool at midnight?? Go figure. The Pop resort, does give you the feel of chaotic fun...if that makes sense. We found the Poly is just more "relaxed". I agree with the poster above..the outdoor corridors are "outside"...when you stay in a hotel with corridors on the inside...everyone seems to use their "library" voices. My kids DS 11 1/2 and DD 10 really liked Pop, especially the food court. They did complain about how crowded the pools were, though. We personally did not have issues about toilet noise, however, we are definetely the family who is up "everyday" (thanks to my DH  ) at 6 or 6:30..

Let's not turn this into a high class/low class issue, 'kay?

I think the values sometimes seem rowdier because there are just more people there than at any other resort. There have been lots of times I've just about been bowled over by running kids at the deluxes....

This is so NOT about class and who can afford to pay to stay wherever!! We have stayed at all level of resorts...just check out my sig line!!! And there are still resorts I need to try. But, I digress. We just stayed at Pop 3 weeks ago. I have to say that we had a very quiet stay. I know we had neighbors next door for the second half of our stay because when they first got there, I was saying to my dd..."Oh no..neighbors that are loud!!! Hope they don't come and go at all hours of the night." I don't think we ever heard them again!! Yes, I could hear toilet flushing above and beside me. Same was true at AllStarMusic...very quiet, but we were away from the pool area in the back of the bldg!
Now, as to those staying in the deluxes...I have to say that our loudest, and I do mean loud, was at the Polynesian!!! We heard entire conversations from our next door neighbors...at all hours of the day and night!!! While I have never had anyone knock against my door at a value or a moderate, I did have many knocks against my door at the Polynesian!! And the kids there were out of control....much running and screaming in the halls. Even my dd, then 8, noticed the difference! So, I don't think that the level of resort, or the cost to stay there, is any indication of what kind of manners and behavior you will find. The quietest stay?? At BWV. But that may have been because we were 3 villas from the very end of the hallway!!! By the time anyone going further down the hall to their villa had passed us, they were way too tired to be knocking on anyone's door!!!

I knew that I would be flamed for my comment, however, I agree it has NOTHING to do with financial class. However, I do feel, that there were many children left unsupervised during our stay. It can happen at any resort. My family and I felt in a more "relaxed" environment when we moved to Poly. My family has also stayed at ASMo and I like that resort better than Pop. We have also stayed at CBR and although we liked that resort, I think the transportation suffered a little staying there. So, as you can see, I am NOT above staying at any level of resort.

No flaming from me!! It just goes to show that WDW has someplace for everyone. Nice, and not so nice, people go to any and all of the resorts. Price does not make a difference. I really think it's time for those who choose to stay at the values to not be made to feel like 'cheapos'. There are actually people that can afford to stay in deluxes that like to stay in a value. If you don't need all those 'deluxe amenities' why pay for them?! I know several people that will only stay at the GF. Why? So they can say that's where they stay!!! One woman actually tells me that "Oh we only stay in the most expensive places. There is no way that Boardwalk Inn and Villas would be up to what we expect." To each his own I say!!!

I do think your resort neighbors can make a difference on how quiet your room will be. I would personally ask for a room change, if it got too bad. This really has nothing to do with the cost of the room. You are not going to change the habits of your resort neighbors. You may get stuck again with noisy neighbors if you move, but it's worth a try. Some hints for more quiet would be to stay away from elevator areas, staircases, corner rooms with traffic patterns, pool areas, ice machine and vending machines, laundry areas, etc. when getting your room. Earplugs may make a difference, too.

Many resort toilets are power toilets and they will be loud no matter where you stay. Showers can be the same way. This is especially true of high rise resorts. Most resorts back-up the bathrooms to be next to each other to save on plumbing costs, etc.; so, it's the price you pay for using a resort room.

I'm a park person at Disney and we use our room to sleep mostly. By the time we end our day, we are pooped and we sleep well. By the way, I find the deluxes at Disney to have noisier neighbors. We've been to Disney around 20X and we've stayed almost everywhere at Disney. You won't like what I have to say here, but the adults at the deluxes have a tendency to stay out later (Pleasure Island, etc.) and perhaps drink a little too much and they can be very rowdy in the halls, etc. getting back to their rooms in the wee hours. Also, the children tend to have more tantrums, etc. I assume, it's because they get so much all the time at home, etc. I've seen children hitting their parents and screaming at the top of their lungs at the deluxes to get their way. I really don't believe spending more on a room is necessarily a guarantee of more quiet. We travel alot and we've seen it all including someone vomiting, etc.

If it's a real issue about the noise, I think I would go with a villa, cabin, etc. where there's more distance between everyone. You will pay for the privelege, but how you want to enjoy your vacation is an individual choice.

Personally, I like saving the bucks with a value for a number of reasons. We are not in our room too much. We go to better restaurants, see better places (like La Nouba), take tours, buy more souvenirs, etc. with the money saved at Disney. Also, I can take two trips to Disney for the cost of one fancy resort stay at Disney. You make personal choices on vacation. If I was a billionaire, I would have the best of the best all the time, but for most of us this will not happen. Each to their own!

ITA
POP has 2,880 rooms'
The Poly has 853 rooms.
My noisiest stay was in the towers at the CR. Kids were running up and down the halls and doors were banging. When you stay at any Disney resort there will be a large # children there. A lot of children do not use "library voices" even if they stay at a deluxe. JMHO

I have stayed at the Pop and I will agree with you on this. I do notice a different crowd of people at the Pop and other value resorts versus the deluxe ones. My stay in May of 2004 was proof enough for me on that issue. The deluxe rooms are bigger, the beds are better and the noise level is more tolerable do to the fact your in a bigger room. Probabaly built a little better also. The bottom line is what your willing to spend. The old cliche is" You pay for what you get!" Very true.

We were there in July and DH found it to be noisy once we got neighbours. We did hear the toilets once they arrived but I must a deep sleeper. I never heard a thing. ;)
