I phoned POP yesterday to confirm reservations. I had to make 3 separate reservations through Orbitz in order to get 9 consecutive nights beginning this Sat. ANYWAY....because of the 3 ressies, I had been holding my breath until my info was in POP's system. No probelmo there. :cheer2: I was very nice and asked the gal at POP if I could please put in a request for a ground floor room, lake view, in the 60's section. She told me that I hadn't paid for a lake view room, yada, yada...that this was a "preferred" (???) room type. I did not argue, because I sure as heck could be wrong  but, I didn't think that all lake view rooms were "preferred" (wording??) rooms. The gal told me I could ask if any "upgrades" were available when I checked in. Any thoughts?? Should I call back today and see if I could pay the difference for the "upgrade" now?
Wait and wing it when I arrive on Saturday night??
Thanks!!
Donna

While I have no idea what rooms are considered preferred and what rooms are not. I did this for our trip in Feb. I am a light sleeper and therefore wanted a top floor, lake view and to not be overlooking the pool. About 2 days before our trip, I faxed over my requests and requested a top floor, lake view room, in the 50's building (which I had read was a relatively quiet building). We rec'd all of our requests (oh, including adjoining rooms w/my parents) and could see some fireworks from the balcony outside of room at night. This was not a preferred room (and it was a little distance from the "hub" of Pop, but we didn't mind the stroll). The 50s building is at the "top" of the bowling pin pool and our room was around the back (if you have a map...for reference).

IMHO, view rooms at value or moderate resorts are really not worth it. Since value and moderate rooms are accessed from outdoors instead of interior corridors, there really isn't that much of a view (obstructed by guests walking by, railings, posts....). That being said, preferred rooms based on location (close to food court, lobby, etc.) may very well be worthwhile.

We stayed in the 70's building with a lake view and loved it. Very quiet and we were right next to the 60's building - so very close to the pool and the lobby.

By the way we got nothing we requested on our reservation and loved the outcome. When we checked in they pulled out a map and told me what was available. Then I got to chose which area we wanted.

Some preferred rooms at POP may have a view of the lake but most of the rooms that would be considered lakeview are not 'preferred'. I'm sure the CM was confused by the fact that at every other resort with a lake or river the waterview does cost more. That said I think the view at a mod or value is really irrelevant because of the walkway that is right outside you window. No room at POP is far from the lake. Take a walk to enjoy it. Check out the turtles that are swimming by the bridge.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

 Thanks so much to each of you. All of your comments make me feel better! I'll just wait until we get to POP and go with the flow. :)

I don't think you are going to find too many lakeview rooms in the preferred room catagory. The extra cost preferred view rooms are closer to the pools and to the main bldgs...that pretty much leaves out any lake view rooms.
I wonder if the OP actually talked to someone at POP or just got a general CM in Disney planning/CRO.
Most CMs within the resort know what they are talking about. I have run into one or two who weren't sure but they did make the effort to get the info I needed.

I would simply LOVE IT if a Cast Member pulled out a map, showed me what was available and let me choose!! Did they really do that? I wonder if they would do that if I asked them nicely.....I never had a CM do that before!

We'll have to disagree on that, my view at CSR when I walked out of my door was of the lake. There were some that the view would've been the parking lot. Trust, me there was a large difference in views IMO. I spent a few evenings just standing outside along the railing watching some of the higher fireworks at epcot I think, or just watching the lake during the morning etc etc.

Look at the maps on Post #1 of the Groovier Pop thread. Most rooms in the 60's are preferred, BUT there ARE standard (not preferred) rooms in the 60's section, and they are lakeside. I would request a lake view room in Building 4 or 5. In fact, I've requested one for my upcoming trip! Good luck!

My favorite POP room was in bldg 4. I was in room 4441....4th floor, facing the lake. It was incredible. So quiet. I would imagine that even the ground level rooms in that area would be quiet as well. And, it was a standard room.

:worship: Thanks so much!!! I'm noting the rooms / buildings you all mentioned and I'll see if any of them are available. You all are the greatest. :yay:

When they told me where we were I asked nicely what were my other options. The key here was that I asked nicely and the CM was happy to help. I would always try. You never know what can happen. :)

It never hurts to ask once you get there.
We stayed in Room 5419. Top Floor, Lakeside of the 60's Bldg. ( Baloo Bldg.)
It was very quiet and a lovely view! and I was so lucky to catch a hot air balloon over the lake early one morning.:cool1:
We had only requested a ground floor room when we made the rezzies! :rotfl2: the cm who checked me in was VERY apologetic about no ground floor rooms too! I really loved that room!!
Hope you have a wonderful stay! POP Rocks! :lovestruc

If you want a lakeview , I"m thinking a ground floor room woun't be a good choice because of the bushes in the way.

herc.

Again, thank you all SO very much for the wonderful help you've given me. I would prefer a ground floor because I'm renting a ECV (scooter) to use. (My visit w/ Orthopedic Surgeon drove that fact home.) Anyhoo...I just thought the ground floor would be easier and the lakeview a bit quieter than overlooking the pool.;)

Okay, fine - BE technical :teeth:

The OP (and anyone else interested) should probably include "facing the lake", not "lake view", when making room location requests.
