Pop, free dining and tickets question

I'm not sure which board to post this on.

We've got a reservation at Pop Century for September, me, my two kids, and my sister, who has an AP.

I've lurked around these boards for awhile and, as I understand it, if free dining comes out we're supposed to buy one day passes for everyone in the room and then after we get there upgrade mine and the kids passes only. Is this right? Can we really do it that way? Will they let just three people upgrade and not the fourth? Will my sister's pass expire after we check out, even if she never uses it, or will it be good until used? If she never uses it, can someone else use it?

I did that very thing this past Sept. I booked a package with one day tickets for all three of us at Pop, upgraded mine to an AP, upgraded one to a 5-day hopper, and kept one as is because we didn't need to use it. Next week (hooray!) I will upgrade it to a 5 day ticket as it never expires. So, I did exactly what you are wondering about and it worked seamlessly.

Thanks!

Were the tickets on your room keys? Do you just keep the key?

Thanks!

Yes, they were on the room key. I just left mine on the key until the last evening before I left and then changed it to a Tyvek AP, so I could give my room key to my DGD when I got home (she loves to play "Disney World").

Do you have to go to one of the parks to get the AP upgrade?

What's a Tyvek AP? And what did you need to do with the one you kept and are going to use soon? Also, where do you need to go to do the upgrading? Sorry so many questions! Thanks!

Tyvek is just the kind of paper they print the AP's on; they don't tear. The ticket that I kept I just had them remove the one-day ticket from the room key and give it to me as a separate one-day ticket. They told me that it was not necessary to remove it from the key and it could still be used by anyone but the fact that the room key had a name on it made me nervous so they just gave me a regular one-day ticket. The regular ticket we were able to upgrade at the resort (we stayed at Pop that time) but I had to get the AP at guest relations, which can be done at any of the parks or at DTD (which is where I had mine done; there is a desk near the DVC kiosk in one of the stores in the Marketplace). It was all very easy even though I probably made it sound complicated!

When we did free dining in 2006, DS and I had days left on non-expiring tickets. My mom used all three of the one-day tickets we got as part of the free dining. I just wrote the name of the park she would use each key for on it.

Thanks you so much for explaining this! I appreciate the detail--you made it very clear. :woohoo:

I'll tell you, I'm getting so excited thinking about all this. I just hope they do offer free dining again, which will make all this so much more affordable. That with free airport transportation is quite a deal!
