Can someone please help me by telling me there thouights about the Pop Century Resort and which decade to stay at?? Thanks :mickeybar

My friend and I stayed in the 80's building. We had a great stay there. My advice is to check out the POP FAQ page, as well as to search for POP Century in the DIS search engine, as there is lots of reviews and information! Enjoy! :)

:goodvibes I just returned from my 2nd stay at Pop. We like to stay in the 60's section, bldg. 4, on the 3rd or 4th floor. This is considered a preferred room. Our room was directly above the main pool, very close to the kiddie pool and food court. We have a 3yr old and this is the best location for us. :sunny:

Last year we stayed in the 80's building and loved it! We were quite a ways from the food court but we only ate breakfast at the resort anyway so it wasn't a problem. We would eat breakfast then head out to the bus stop.

It depends on what you want. We stayed in the 70's Big Wheel building because we wanted to be near the foodcourt and buses. DS and I were both born in 1970 too. Some people want to have a lake view or be near the main pool (or away from the mail pool)...

Loved it! We stayed in the 70's Big Wheel Building 4th floor.. Next to Everything POP!

Last summer, we stayed at Pop Century in the 60s Bldg - the one with Mowgli & Baloo! We were on the 3rd floor, overlooking the kiddie pool. This is the preferred bldgs, and although we really enjoyed our room - it was very quiet!! - I don't think you have to stay in a preferred bldg. It was a short walk to the food court/bus stop area. My older DD and DH love the 1960s stuff, so I thought they'd appreciate the 60s more. Again, our room was very quiet, we never heard our neighbors, or any outside noise.

This past Dec, we stayed in the 50s Bldg - with Lady & the Tramp. My youngest DD loved it!!! We were on the 2nd floor, and from outside our door, we saw the fireworks one night!! Again, it was still a short walk to the food court/bus stop area! DD loves dogs, so she was in heaven to be with Lady & the Tramp! Again, we never heard our neighbors, and the bonus of seeing the fireworks was great!!!

We'll be back at Pop Century in a few days (oh, that sounds so good to say!) and we're hoping for 50s again!!! :Pinkbounc

I have stayed in every decade except for the 60's (the preferred building, ie the one that is $10more per night) and have enjoyed my stay in each.
If I could pick a building, I would choose decade #5 as it is close to the main hall/food court, and has the bowling pool right beside it. Plus in the evening you can go up to the top floor and watch the fireworks over the lake.

wow-my second chance to expound on the POP, LOL!

Well, as long as you're sure you want to stay at POP, then we thought bldg.6 in the SEVENTIES was a good location.

We had room 6141. It has a pretty lake view (although we didn't ask for any particular room or view). We found it was not far to walk to our car, and had a nice straight shot to the Classic Hall where check in, bell hop, food & shopping were. Its also convenient to the Hippie Dippie pool, and there seemed to be some kind of giant foozeball thing out front...it looked like there were people playing with it...not sure about that, exactly. Anyway, the decor inside was just very lovely, soft green wallcolor that I absolutely loved. It still had that new feeling, quite unworn, nice bedspreads-unfaded. Lots of cute photo opp nearby, big potato heads, big Mickey phone, etc.

Overall, I was glad that 6141 was the room we got...I love the 70's in general, and always did want a Mickey Mouse phone, lol.

But, I was really disappointed in the temperature controls and lack of spa at any of the pools, so our one night at POP is going to be our only stay there.

I know some people have reported problems with the temperature controls, but I didn't have a problem when I went in March/April. My friend and I are always cold so we bumped up the temperature - much better than freezing!

Also, none of the values (All Stars and POP) have a slide or hot tub...hence why they are called values.

hello all;

I just got back from Pop Century and stayed in the 80's section 3rd floor it was nice close to bus stop 5 min walk to eatery. The weather was chilly and rainy but it didn't spoil out trip. I am really tired though.

Kay :cool1:

We are going in August. We requested the 50's section, but I will not be disappointed if we get a different section. I have heard good things about all the sections. Although I am a child of the 80's, I am interesting in the 50's. Have a great time at POP! :wizard:

We loved Pop Century!!! We stayed in the 90's building, 2nd floor, right by the elevator. It was very quiet. We expected to hear a lot of traffic being in that spot. But it was great! Also loved being by the computer pool, as it was almost always nearly empty! The other pools were always packed full!

:wave2: Me again!

In my comment on the pools/spa; guess I didn't mention the plus side. We toured all the pools at POP, and they had really nicely themed "kiddie play areas" (? prob have a disney term for these ?) Anyway, it was late at night when we went to the pools, so they weren't in use my any little tykes - but, they did make for some more great photo opps.

And, to be objective, if ya don't have hip and knee problems like me, you probably won't even notice whether or not there's a spa with the pools.

None of the values have hot tubs/spas. Just FYI. Also that information is easily avaliable ahead of time here on the resort info pages.

My mom and I in March stayed in the 80's building. It was very quiet and a short stroll away from the lake. We loved it. We are taking the DH and heading back in 23 days to the POP this time we paid extra for the 60's building because I like the big happy flowers. :flower: :flower: :flower:

Are the rooms in the 70's building standard rooms? Do you request the building when you arrive or right before you leave? Thanks! :flower:

Yes, the 70's building is standard.

You can request a building when you make your reservation. Rooms are actually "slated" for specific people 3 days before you arrive. Sometimes you are already placed; sometimes you are not.

Just to give you an example, my friend and I were supposed to stay in a non-smoking standard room. The standard room was guaranteed; non-smoking (unfortunately!) is not. We got to the All Stars and there were no non-smoking rooms for us on any of the three properties there! I was shocked! We didn't have much choice and were bumped to POP. In the end, we had a great time at POP and I wouldn't consider trying the All Stars ever again. (And, yes, if you're wondering, our requests were noted on our reservation, I confirmed with American Airlines - where we booked the package - and called to confirm, as well).
