We have previously used a wheelchair from Pop Century, however it was in terrible shape. I just bought a wheelchair and am considering bringing it to WDW. Does anyone know if Pop has new wheelchairs? If not I will bring my own.

I seriously doubt that you will find new wheelchairs at the resort, so you should bring one from home.

The wheelchairs at the resorts are not meant to be taken from the resort, so they are not as concerned about how hard it is to push. They are more meant for someone who twists their ankle at the pool and requires help getting back to their room.

There is also no guarantee that there will be a wheelchair at the resort, or that the CMs will let you take it off the resort grounds.

Definitely bring your own from home!

Call POP direct and ask them or rent a scooter from outside company and can have it at resort when you get there and to and from parks (on the buses they have room for two each trip) and have scooter until you leave. can do same for wheelchairs if you need to push them say for a child. can rent scooters outside for $25 a day:thumbsup2

The condition is why posters on this board usually recommend not using the loaner wheelchairs from the resorts.

If you look in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there are links to different companies that DIS posters recommend for ECVs and wheelchairs. That thread is near the top of this board, or you can get there from the link in my signature.

I would recommend calling one of the companies yourself and arranging it rather than trying to have a third party arrange it. All the companies listed will deliver to your resort for free.

For the wheelchair on the plane question, there is more complete information in post #15 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. The basic answer is that it is very simple. You let them know you want to gate check the wheelchair, they will put a tag on it that tells the baggage people to deliver it to your gate at your destination. THen, you can keep it until the door of the plane and leave it there for the baggage handlers to move into the hold. You want to make sure to remove anything that might come off or anything that protrudes and could get caught during the flight, but it’s pretty easy.
