We always book standard at POP and ask for a lakeview (this is just our preference). With that being said, my daughter just got back from her 1st anniversary trip at POP. She had requested a king bed, lakeview, Tramp building and got exactly what she asked for. The room was handicap accessible room (no sure why). When they came in from magic hours on their first night there, my daughter turned on the shower to warm the water, went to get her pj's and came back to a flooded bathroom. It was midnight and no mousekeeping on duty so the front desk asked if they would mind moving rooms. They moved to the 80's (CD disk) building, right across from the giant Roger Rabit. They LOVED that building, she said it was a quite area and like the other post said, they found the shortcut to the bus stop and she said it was sooo much closer. She said she would not every add requests to her future ressie's again, since she was sooo pleasantly surprised with the "new" room.

It really depends on what you want: If you want to just be closer to the food court then yes you would want to request preferred. If you want to be close to a pool, you would want to request Standard Pool View, if you want to be closest to the Hippy Dippy pool, you would want to request Preferred Pool View. Sorry that your daughter had flooding issues, but happy the housekeeping took care of the situation promptly ... and the upside... the unexpected liking of a new area that she may never thought about requesting! (and the Tramp building does have HC rooms).

I remember our stay in bldg 9... end room by Mr./Mrs Potato head...it was one of the quietest rooms we have ever had! And I really liked looking over at those pac men and Roger Rabbit.

One option I can think of is to take the bus from POP to MK, then the boat from MK to Ft Wilderness. There might be a better option, but that's the first one off the top of my head.

This and leave plenty of time for travel.

Okay for those of you who have inquired about non HC. King rooms, here are the statistics on them at POP.
There are only 9 preferred and 29 std king rooms that are not HC adapted in any way.
There are 12 preferred and 8 std king rooms that are ADA adapted for the deaf.
There are 11 preferred and 19 std king rooms that have the tubs w/ handrails & raised toilets.
There are 29 preferred and 41 std king rooms that have the roll in shower & raised toilet.
For a grand total of 150 king rooms!
Roll in showers will NEVER be on the fourth floor.
The non HC king rooms will be located in bldgs 2, 4, 6, 8 & 9.

The kiddie pool is directly behind the main pool, in the 60s section. I would request a room in the 60s section in one of the wings that is lakeside.

If you are wanting closest to the kiddie pool, you would want to book Preferred View and request 60's building, close to the Kiddie pool (these are just requests and not guarenteed and there are several preferred view locations).
If you are wanting to be close to the kiddie pool but you want to pay standard rates you would book Standard and request lake side, 60's building (again, there are several standard locations and requests are not guarenteed).

80's does not have a pool, 90's does and they are adjoining so you will be close to a pool. The 80's section is ALL standard rooms so if your ressie shows Preferred pool view, you will be in the 60's section since that is the only area that is preferred pool view (surrounding the main Hippy Dippy pool). The preferred pool rooms are more expensive so if you really want the 80's section, you would want to call Disney (or whoever you booked your trip with) and ask to change to a standard room (save some money) and then hope for some pixie dust that they grant your request that you get the 80's section . Just remember that a request is just that, a request. As long as you remember that, you won't be disappointed. POP is great!

Beg to differ, but there are handicapped king rooms with roll-in shower on the 4th floor. My parents had one in October. They didn't want it ... as my brother is a quadriplegic and without his wheelchair he is unable to move and way too heavy to carry down the stairs in case of a fire. They tried to get moved but there were no ground floor available at the time so they just dealt with it. Their room was a king handicapped adjoining a regular room.

That would be a STANDARD pool view. The 80's are standard rooms so the pool view rooms from here would be categorized as std pool view. Preferred pool view is available only in the 60's as I previously stated.
If I were you and MY ressie said that I would call and check cuz I bet donuts to $$ you are paying for a preferred room if it lists preferred on your reservation. I have travelled to WDW Many times and have spent Almost 120 nights just at POP. I know how POP works pretty well, have stayed there 38 nights this year alone. So if it were me I'd check. Cuz I bet you are in a preferred pool room. Just trying to help!

You are right...I just double checked and we have a standard pool view room. Thank you for your help though!

I'm sorry your family experienced that problem.
what room number were they in? And probably what made the situation even more difficult to try to move them to the first floor was the need for connecting rooms.
I am going by the information provided by the room assigner whom I have developed a rapport with that works in the back office at the actual hotel (NOT a call center). ALL 4th floor King HC rooms are supposed to be tubs w/ handrails. This person has always been spot on with all the information she has given me before and has backed it up with documentation.

No problem Stitchlovestink, just sharing! They were in the 70's, not sure what room, but up above the "fooseball" guys, facing the "Mickey phone". I can ask my Mom what room(s) they had. And yes, the need for connecting rooms does make it difficult anywhere they go. Brother needs 1:1 care (even to roll over in bed) but it's worth it because he Loves Loves Loves Disneyworld! And we all love Pop!

Does anyone know how to get from POP to the Hoop Dee Doo at Fort Wilderness on Disney transportation?

I asked this question the other day, posters suggested taking the bus to MK and taking the boat to Fort Wilderness.

Just changing from one category room to a different category should not cause you to pay more. It should save you some money since Preferred pool view is the highest room rate and standard is the lowest. They shouldn't have to change anything about your package other than the room category.
Disboard friends please correct me if I am wrong.
If you are within 45 days of check in, there may be a change fee.
When you booked your trip was Preferred Pool View all that was available or did you have a choice?

I looked at my reservation again and I'm in a standard pool room not preferred....so I think I'm good!

In a similar boat myself. I will be making an upgrade to my reservation so I had called to ask this same question. I was told that anything under 15 days would have a fee (not sure if she said it was 15 dollars or so) and no changes at all made 3 days prior to reservation.

Ft Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge are the stops for that one. There is also one that goes to Grand Floridian and the Polynesian.
