Pop Century Room Renovations

The rooms aren't terrible but they definitely have a different feel. They don't feel as homey, someone said Sterile to describe it and I think that's accurate. I feel like they just need a little something extra. I like the idea of sliding doors for the bathroom and the coffee bar area but they need to add something to warm the place up.

I looked through the thread and cannot find this, will the new rooms with two beds have 2 queens or 1 queen and 1 murphy?

My feelings exactly. Keep hoping they add something that speaks to the Pop Century theme. Someone described them as "sleek". I don't go to Disney to do sleek - although I guess the Contemporary should be sleek.

I think at least two people have stated they spoke to someone working with the new rooms and they were told they will have one regular queen bed and one queen murphy bed.

I think two queens makes more sense. The housekeepers and laundry services won't have to keep track of two sizes of identical looking linens.

Doesn't sound good for us!!
Pofq is probably a shorter walk over to TS at Riverside than the mermaid rooms are to food court! As I mentioned, for me, even AoA can't compete with mod due to room size alone. I'm staying at Pop next trip cause I have room to myself. Travelling with a friend and we each have a room. Looking forward to it, Pop looks super cute. And can walk over to AoA to try their food court. I've only spent one night at Pop so didn't have the chance to really experience much of it.
What they may do to pricing scares me.

Actually, the longest walk from a LM room to the food court at AoA is .3 miles (most rooms are less than that). The shortest walk from a POFQ to Boatwrights is .3 miles and the longest is .65 miles. But at least at POR/POFQ, you can take a boat. At AoA your only option is to walk. :D

so eager for the first real stays in the new rooms to be posted. Also very interested to hear how people make out with requesting a refurb room - if that was their only request, or if they were able to make that request online check in or had to call for it to be added.

Also want to see how TP handles the new rooms in their room finder. I wanted to request a 70's room (standard) when I go in December, at this work pace I wonder if that would guarantee me a new room, guess it's a wait and see game.

I am curious too! Super curious, since i arrive this Saturday! I'm very doubtful they will be available by then, but i suppose they could release them at any time since they seem so very close to ready. One interesting thing is when i first put in my room request on MDE I put first choice: 90's, second choice: 60's. A few days later i went back to check on it (since on our last trip my requests kept just disappearing) and it was switched to first choice: 60's and second choice: 90's. When i tried to change it back it no longer showed 90's as an option in first choice, but did in second choice. So now I am down for 1st 60's 2nd 90's. We don't arrive until 10:30pm so if i don't receive an assignment to 90's ill swing by the desk when we arrive and just ask about 90's and see what im told and ill keep yall posted!

Interesting. I checkin in 2 weeks. I had requested 90s 1st option & 80s 2nd. When I read your post, I just checked and it now only shows as nothing in 1st option & 80s as 2nd. I tried adding 90s for 1st again. It lets me add 90s but when I view details it takes it away & only shows 80s. I went in again and this time did 90s as both 1st & 2nd choice. Now under details, it still changed me back to 80s & still nothing on 90s.

Whoa!! very interesting.

This makes me think that until 90s is put back into inventory, the system reads them as "offline" no matter what your checkin date is. I'll have to keep watching for when they start assisgning the new rooms & see if it lets me request it then, I guess.

I picked 90s as my first choice and 80s as my second when I did online check-in a few weeks ago. I called last week to ask for a refurb room if possible. The woman I spoke to said she would make a note, no promises. When I checked again online I noticed it overwrote my original request. I check in June 28th.

They will be doing away with the categories of deluxe, moderate, and value.

Anyone know what kind of coffee pot? Is it a single brew, like a Keurig? With single serving pods? Or just a regular multi-cup one?
It looks like the Cusinart they have in the other resorts. They have a round tea bag type of pod.

Nope, important, or even a necessity, would be the correct word for some people.
Disney, of all the hospitality industry, provides the most flexibility relating to number of guests in a single unit. That guests choose not to reserve those options doesn't make connecting rooms a necessity. There's always a baby monitor for the situation described.

Pop rooms are 260 square feet.
The most reasonable room measurement for a unit that size would be 20' deep by 13' wide.
Some of that 20' is the bathroom; since the standard tub is five feet, this reduces the room to 15'.
Queen beds are 60" wide each, or five feet.
This leaves five feet total for the space from the bathroom wall to the bed, from the bed to the Murphy bed, and from the Murphy bed to the door.

Yes, and it looks like the three night stands in between are each about 12-15" max. The entry door is most likely 36 inches, and in the diagram it is shown open. It comes to about where the first night stand starts. Although I think that adds up to about six feet, plus the two queen beds for a total of 10 feet. That's about 16 feet. Hmmm.

I feel I'm in the minority here but I really like the new room design as compared to the old one ::yes:: One of the biggest things I enjoy about WDW resorts is the room interiors. For the last several years we've aimed at the moderates or deluxes due to room capacity and design. Although the room capacity would still not suit my whole family if we only had one room, the resort has for sure made its way back on my radar as an option for a two-room stay just because of these room updates :D
