i am planning my first trip to the "WORLD" but was advised against the pop century, because of the distance from the bus stop and food court to the lodging area, any thoughts?

We stayed in the 70's building B I believe it was and it was right inbetween a parking lot and the main building. Even walking around I didn't find the distances between anything that bad.

Pop Century is a great resort and I have stayed at many WDW resorts as you can see from my signature below.
The distance from the food court and buses are no different or farther then if you stayed at some of the deluxe resorts. The bonus to me with Pop is you have a food court some may disagree but I enjoy having that option.

I was also in the 70's building back in January and did not find the distance to the food court a "walking challange" plus it was great to look at all of the different "large" items from each of the years along the way.

Just wanted to chime in here -

Hubby & I have stayed at POP twice & will be there for our 3rd time in 2 days!!! We love it there so much, we chose it to celebrate our 5th anniversary. I think the distance to walk at POP is less than many of the other resorts - some of the moderates & deluxes are very spread out. We have stayed on the 4th floor in the 50's building both times now & it is probably only a 3 minute walk to the bus stop from there. We loved being able to see the Illuminations fireworks from the 4th floor over the lake & really enjoy the food court there - haven't had a bad meal there.

If you think your family would like POP, or it is what you are budgeting, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. We have stayed at Deluxes, but will always continue to return to the POP when trying to take a budget trip, or when we want to take a longer trip. :)

Put on your happy face! We advice you to try it! It a fun resort! The staff is very nice and friendly and helpful. They seem to like their job and it shows. They like to "Hustle" and "Twist!!" CMs have fun too!

The place is very clean. Good varieties of food. They have a great souvinier store next to the food courtr. There's a lounge bar next to the food court. There's also a pool bar. There's 3 pools. One kiddie pool and a POP Jet. Enjoy listening to all different types of music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The atmosphere is very lively and colorful. Enjoy strolling along the lake and read the signs about what happened in the past decades. There's lots of memorabilia from the past decades in the lobby. Go rent a surrey bike and ride along the lake. Watch the fireworks in certain areas.

Have fun! Are you smiling yet? :)

My best advice is to take every recommendation and/or criticism of any resort with a grain of salt. Everyone has different favorites for many different reasons. Don't make your choice based upon what someone else likes or dislikes. Read all you can and make a judgment based upon what YOU'RE looking for. And then, ENJOY!

we stayed at pop last summer youll love it we stayed in the 50s section and our room was closeer to the food and bus then some of the 10 dollar more a nite preferred rooms . just ask to be in the 70s or 50s the 50s i think is great cause the bowling pin pool is rite there and that pool was never crowded :cheer2: :cheer2:

Ditto. I have stayed at CBR, CSR, Contemporary, and Pop. We were closer to the pools, and to the food court at Pop, than anywhere else we've stayed. 30 second alk to either of the 2 pools, and about 1 minute to the food court.

2nd floor room, 50's bldg three (corner room #3261). PERFECT SPOT

I was nervous about the value resort idea, but have now booked it again for a Dec. trip. There are rooms that are a distance, and rooms that are closer. Just as w/ any resort. We were closer to things, than some of the 60's bldgs, which are preferred.

Just put your room preference down, on your reservation, and don't worry.

We also had a wonderful experience at POP from 4/22-4/30. Our room was located in the 50's area. We had our 4 yr DS with us too. It was his first trip. He loved everything about the resort. He never complained about walking. While walking to the food court or to the bus stop we were always talking or being playful with our son so never really focused how far the walk. He ran everywhere. You might not ever notice the walk there is lots of fun activity to look at.

Have Fun at WDW!

Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go back!! We were just in the World in December but have to go back! Our first trip we stayed off site, dumb I know; we learned our lesson, in Dec we were at AKL. We are tossing the idea of either Carribbean or POP Century. I have several concerns with POP though...

We would like either the 70's or 80's. I would prefer the 80's. It will be DH, myself and DS 11 and DS 13.

1. Will it be loud?
2. Are buses timely?
3. Which building/floor?

Any experence would be great TIA :goodvibes

I rarely heard others. We are hard sleepers, but never was awakened by others. Many have reported hearing other toilets, but we never noticed it much. You could hear other showers, but nothing that bad. I've heard those things in nicer hotels as well.

We only rode the busses a few times this trip- without problems.

Can't tell you about the 80's section. It is farther to the food court than the 50s where we stayed. Prob. not too bad to the busses though. We went for closeness to things, rather than a certain decade. The rooms are the same, and you can always walk around, and see the Icons.

The distance of the walk is for most of us just a state of mind. We were in the "preferred" building on the back side near Goofy's Pop Jets back in 2003. The walk was no problem most days, but at night, on the way back from the park.....dog tired, it seemed like forever. It was all in the perspective. I can't wait to get back to POP! :Pinkbounc I am doing all I can to make it happen this year, but only time, our Chihuahua with a seizure disorder, and roof of our older, but new to us home will tell. lol Maggie

Back in March, I stayed in the 50's building B directly in front of the bowling pin pool. I did not think the walk to the bus stop and food court was any better or worse than other Disney resorts I stayed at, so I wouldn't let that stop you from stay at POP. I enjoyed the resort very much.

My one warning would be this - my room was on the second floor directly facing the pool. I don't know if it was just my room or not, but I could easily hear people outside in the pool. This normally wouldn't be too bad except this was the week after Easter and the parks stayed open pretty late (MK for instance was open until 11PM or midnight). So after guests came back to their rooms, many wanted to take a late night swim. In fact, the night I arrived I checked in at 1:30AM (late flight) and there were still people in the pool. So based on the time of year you visit WDW, you may want to get a room without a pool view if you are a light sleeper.

POP is an awesome resort!!!! GREAT bus service, food court, and nicests rooms of the values!!!!
