Those of you who have been to Pop Century Resort, I have a question for you! :cool1:
Did you stay in the Preferred room? Is it worth it?
What is the difference in between the standard room and preferred?
It will just be me and my love.

Thanks in advance for your answers/advise!

At POP, preferred rooms are merely located in the area closest to the main hall and main pool. We have never paid for preferred. If I was you, I would request a king room. It is just a request, but it would be nice since it's just you and your sweetie. We once requested a king, lakeview room in the 50's section. Got one on the ground floor in 50's building 3. Great for that trip. Or if a great view means more to you than a king bed, request an Illuminations/Spaceship Earth view room. I got room 3435 (building 3 floor 4) once and it had a great view over the lake. I could see Spaceship Earth, fireworks from Illuminations and even from Wishes! From either of those rooms, the main hall was about a 4 minute walk. They were also nice and quiet. Unless you can't stand an extra 100 steps at the end of the day, don't pay for preferred!

Forgot to mention that I could also see the Tower of Terror and The Dolphin from that great room!

We stayed at POP last year for 2 weeks and I thought that because we were there for so long we should have the preferred location. Well, I asked for 70's, which we got, but they put us on the 4th floor. So because we had to use the elevator we would have had an equal walk from the elevator to our room regardless of whether it was STD or PRE. In future, I most likely would book STD and ask for either 60's or 70's 4th floor. The 60's STD would only be a very few extra steps.

I think there becomes a difference when you are in the 80's & 90's.

It all comes down to the walk. I have hip problems so we always pay the extra for preferred. Last year we got a great location in the 50's building 1st floor. I personally think it's worth the extra money.

2 weeks until our next trip to CBR for 8 days.

BFF and I just stayed there for one night (we're locals) over New Year's, and did choose to pay $11 for the preferred room. We got a first-level in the 70's building, and it was pretty close to the parking, which for us was almost more important than location to food/buses. Since we were staying just one night, I thought $11 was worth it, but if it had been an extended vacation, that $11/night would've added up more and I may not have selected preferred.

I have stayed at POP the last 2 trips and didn't pay for a preferred location....and I will never pay for a preferred room.
We stayed in the 60's, building 5, second floor, facing the lake. PERFECT location. We were right near the main pool, and a 5 minute walk to the main building. VERY quiet location! :)
The main reason that I wouldn't pay for a preferred location is that a lot of those locations face the pools. Those pools can be *lively* at all hours. So paying to save yourself 1 minute of walking , could put you facing a very noisy area. NOT worth it. :)

We're going Feb. break since I can't take any other time off work (I teach). I'm a light sleeper, but I don't want my kids to have to walk too far every morning and night. Does anyone have any suggestions on which location I should request? Thank you!!:flower1:

I have never been but booked 2 standard rooms at POP for our September trip. From what I read on here, there's not much difference.

We love POP and always stayed preferred. Both of us are diabetics and have to take care for extra walking. After a day (or days) of walking park after park, it is worth that extra $60 to be 500ft closer to the main building and buses.

Oh and yes the only difference is the distance from the main building to each room.

We have stayed at POP for our last 2 visits and always requested the 50's section . Upon check-in, just ask for a 50's room ...we had great rooms both times .You'd be right near the 50's pool and a short walk to the main Hippy Dippy Pool and Everything POP (food court /main bldg.) ....

Happy Planning :flower3:

:thumbsup2thank you for all of your help!
For us-It sounds like perferred isn't for us. A few extra steps, we can handle.

Quick question, when you request a certain room, do you call in advance or ask when you get there?:confused3

Please NEVER request a specific room. Odds are only 1 in 2,880 that you'll get it - you have a better chance of writing a New York Times bestseller ;).

Instead, request an area or feature/s; keep requests general and to a minimum; and you can either call in advance and add your request/s to your reservation or just ask when you check in.

Stayed at pop in Sept. Requested 70's building. Got rm 312. Awesome view of the lake and once I figured out wher I was I would just cut through parking lot and there were the buses. Of course yesterday looking at my map I figured out I was real close to the computer pool.

I didn't mean a specific room, just features I guess it did sound that way. :guilty: Thanks for your help!
It is greatly appreciated.

Just so you know, Preferred doesn't mean you'll be 500' closer to Classic Hall than if you were in a Standard location room. It means the room is within a 500' radius of Classic Hall.

Sounds the same, right? Not at all. Example 1: the wing of building 6 facing building 10 (both in the "70"s) is Preferred. The rooms directly behind them are Standard. Your* Preferred room could be only thirty feet closer to Classic Hall than your neighbor's Standard room. Example 2: the rooms on the far side of the elevator 'lobby' in both these buildings are Standard. The room just before the elevator are Preferred; the rooms just on the other side of it - maybe twenty feet away? - are Standard.

The entire resort is only about 1,500' across, from the furthest corner of the "80"s to the diagonally opposite furthest corner of the "50"s.

*general "your", not directed at anybody on this thread.

You should have it noted on your reservation. Put your requests in order of priority to you and make them general. Here's what mine were: 60's building, lake view, high floor.

HTH! :wizard:

We stayed at Pop in May and had a standard room in the 80's. We loved the location. We were down the corridor from the computer pool and only across the parking lot from the bus area and main building. The walk was not bad and seemed more quiet in our area.

Thursday we found out that we are going back to Disney for a conference in a month. We are opting to extend our stay and go to Pop before the event. Friday I was quoted prices for a standard room. When I went back on Saturday (less than 24 hours later) all of the standard rooms were booked. It cost us about $75 extra for the 5 nights that are booked.
