My SO and I will be staying at PC in september with Free Dining. We have no experiance with this resort and I am just wondering if uprading to a Preferd Room would be worth the $90. Looking at the resort on Google Maps makes it seem to be a good trek to the main building fod food/buses if we end up in one of the furthest buildings.

It's actually not a very big resort even though it looks sprawling on paper. I've stayed at Pop 8 times, and I have only stayed in a Preferred Room once bc it was all that was left when I booked. It also happened to be when Pop Warner was in town, and I ended up being VERY glad I had a preferred room since it was away from the hustle and bustle of the kids, but in any other circumstance, I can't see a preferred room being worth it. I usually request a room in the 50s or 70s section, as both of these will give you a decent location no matter what building you're in. If you don't mind not passing through the main building on your way to the bus, then a lot of the rooms in the 80s section are really close to the bus stops.

We have stayed at Pop four times. We never pay extra and have always had great rooms (50's or 70's buildings.) I believe the 90's rooms are the only ones that are really far away.

There's no key on Google maps, is there? Pop Century is pretty well-designed and relatively compact. The entire property is only about 900 yards between the two most distant points - the far end of the 90s to the far end of the 50s.

We've stayed in preferred & standard rooms at POP (90's building for standard) and I will pay extra for preferred everytime. It may not be a long walk normally--but when it's raining & I just want my am coffee--it's a crazy long walk( or run ) Values don't have coffee makers in rooms & I need my coffee.

Here's a Pop Century resort map showing preferred locations (in yellow). As you can see, only partial sides of buildings are considered preferred. The other sides are not. Last time we requested a lakeside view in the '50s, '60s or '70s and were given lake view in bldg 3 ('50s). It was so nice facing the lake. We couldn't believe it was standard price for such a nice view. As mentioned, only the '90s bldg is a hike to the main bldg. I would skip the preferred location and save your $$ for a memorable dinner for the two of you.

Using that above map as a reference point, I've stayed in these buildings..50s,bldg 2, right beside that furthest to the right bowling pin, top floor....5-6 min walk to the food court. 50's bldg 1, backside preferred room, ground level, 4 min walk. 80's...ground level, back side, closest to parking lot, 6 min walk. 70's, bldg 10, preferred, ground level....2 mins, but man, that was a noisy room. Lots of foot traffic going by. Favorite room? By far, 60's, bldg 4, 4th floor, facing the lake. It was perfect...5 min walk to food court. Won't ever pay for a preferred room again. Ever.

Thank you everyone for the responses, I'm going to leave our reservation as a standard room and request a 50's or 60's room.
You definitely helped this fence sitter make up his mind!
