Pop and AOA pools

If you go by that notion, and AOA is just the second half of POP, then why aren't POP guests allowed to go there? Personally, I find your responses very condescending. If you close off one pool to a group of people, then there should be equal enforcement. I'm very glad you have found a resort that you love - so have I. I have no desire to go to your pool. You want your pool protected? Well I want mine protected too.

Kids are kids - they don't judge a pool by how "gorgeous" it is. They want new and different and of course would want to explore any pool possible. And there are parents that will follow desire of what their child wants and take them there. Is that something that they should have their head examined for? I don't think so. :confused3

WOW! I thought by the smilie people could figure out I was joking. Guess not.

As I stated, ORIGINALLY that land was to be for POP. Disney went a different direction and built a totally separate hotel. As for the hotel I love, well...since you do not know me AT ALL, then you clearly don't know that my hotel of choice is Pop Century. So judging me and calling me condescending without knowing what you are talking about has no affect on me whatsoever.

And yes, kids are kids, but their PARENTS will need to be the ones to teach those kids that rules are rules. Both hotels have signs that state only their own guests are allowed to swim there. If people are too stupid to follow simple rules then that's their fault and I hope they get caught.

Again, sorry you found my post to be condescending, but honestly, your response was way worse than what I wrote, and I'm sure most would agree.

I didn't think it was condescending, just pointing out that the Pop pools aren't as appealing as the AoA pools due to the special features added to AoA. Underwater sound system, splash pad, HUGE pool at the Big Blue, and then the Cabanas at the Cozy Cone. The Pop pools just don't have that draw. I can't see why anyone at AoA would want to leave the new, cool pool areas to swim in a basic pool. I can't see people leaving SAB to go swim at the BWI pool either, but the reverse would likely be true.

Are they going to enforce the opposite as well - A fence around the hippy dippy pool to keep out AOA guests? I have no problem with AOA doing what they did, but I think it's an awful precedent to set of POP doesn't protect their guests in the same capacity. :confused3

I'm one of those people that thinks all the resort pool areas should be room key accessible only. I loved that about the pool at BLT. I was actually followed to the pool by a woman and her two kids. Now, I have no idea where they came from...they were walking down the all from the main lobby area, when they fell in behind me. When I got to the pool, and took out my key, the woman said to one of the kids..'Scoot on up honey'. I went in, as the woman said..'Oh, could you hold that for us???' 'Sorry, you need a room key to get in' was my response. She was not happy. Was I rude?? Maybe. But, I used my room key to get in. She could use hers.

If you want to swim at AoA...stay there. Stay where you want to play.

I agree! While one person might think that is highly unlikely that somebody will cross the bridge and swim in Pop's pool, I do think it will happen eventually. AOA's pools may be gorgeous but I'm thinking they are going to get crowded, especially with the influx of everybody wanting to stay there. There are going to be a few guests that don't want a crowded pool because of a full resort, and I bet money on it, they will cross the bridge and try to swim in Pop's pool.

I sent an email to Disney asking this very question. I did get a phone call back and the CM was very informative. While some might think it's unlikely of AOA guests going to Pop's pool, Disney is aware that there will be guests who do try to cross the bridge and try to swim in both AOA's pool AND Pop's pool. They will be monitoring the situation on BOTH ends!

I agree, all pools should be gated and wrist band monitored, even the older resorts that don't have the newest pools! There's always the few who don't think the rules apply or don't think the situation will ever happen. Where there's a will, there's a way and people will do it! It's no different of a situation than the pool hoppers at other resorts like the Poly.

This is ALL that I was trying to say. Thank you.

I completely agree with smitch on this one. As far as I know she's a pretty dedicated Pop guest as well.. so your missing the mark on that one too.

Maybe YOU won't head to the Big Blue pool, but don't tell me it's the same as the one at Pop and please explain WHY someone would want to leave the AoA pools to head over to Pop?
Many many many people are going to stick with where they are closest too and actually use the amenities they paid for. But there is going to be a lot that absolutely would not have, and would have headed over to AoA to swim because it's new and unique. Would that have worn off over time? Maybe some.
But obviously Disney felt it was going to be enough of an issue that they chose to fence it in from the outset. If they feel that all the AoA guests are scrambling over to Pop to use the pool I am sure it would be addressed at some point but I doubt there will be a need.

Those family suites are expensive. More expensive than the mods, and nearly as much as most of the deluxes. Wouldn't you be upset if you paid almost 300 a night and the pool was overrun by guests who got their rooms for 89?
I know I wouldn't be interested in paying 3 times as much for what I could get for much less.

I suspect there will be lots of monitoring going on around the bridge. It will be pretty obvious that if people are crossing the bridge with their pool gear in hand that they have the intent to swim in the wrong pool. My point was that guests are far less likely to leave AoA than they are to leave POP because the pools at AoA are going to have better security, better amenities, and overall more appeal. There will always be those who cheat the system on either side. You just have to do the right thing yourself and hope that others do as well.

Inquiring minds would love to know;) Please let there be more to this!!!:rolleyes1

I'm inquiring because I hope the mother learned her lesson to not pool hop and got embarrassed after the kids learned that they are not allowed in that pool.. that is... if they are truly not staying there.

I don't know how parents can break the rules and they know it because there are signs posted that only guests of that resort can swim in that pool.. and they sure are teaching their children to break the rules.. :confused3 Shame on the parents.

I don't know if Disney would put up gates on all their pools, but I sure don't mind the wristbands.. Each resorts gets their own style prints wristbands and this would obviously distinguish from what resort they are from. No wristbands.. no pool time. Wrong wristbands.. no pool time.. expired wristbands.. no pool time. Anyone trying to pool hop... a $100 fine fee!! Or go to jail! :lmao:

I don't get it either! There's always going to be REBELS, even if it is just pool hopping REBELS, lol! There are people out there who just generally enjoy breaking the rules to see if they can get away with it.

Haven't heard if the gates at AoA do this or not, but I think it would be awesome if you had to use your key to get OUT of the gate as well. That way anyone sneaking in behind an actual guest can stand there looking like a big dope when they can't get out of a pool they shouldn't have been in in the first place.:lmao:

And, pigletto, thanks for having my back! :thumbsup2

If smitch was trying to imply sarcasm with her smiley, great. Then I missed the mark. For that I apologize. Too me it seemed like you were honestly laughing about how anyone in their right minds would want to slum it at POP. But that still doesn't answer what my concern is.

I don't care whose pool is better, who paid more, who dances with unicorns on the weekend. I am saying that there should be equal protection of guests amenities at their resort. Whichever that resort might be. How little, or how much I paid for my vacation. I want to be sure I have a lounge chair to enjoy my selection from the pool bar in. :cool2:

AOA looks great, but that doesn't mean people who stay there won't be in the POP pool. In the same way, most POP people are not trying to claw their way into your pool because it looks so awesome.

DARN IT, who told you? I guess the cat's out of the bag or should I say the unicorn's out of the bag! ;) I'm a Pop slummer too!

Sometimes I crack myself up. I need a Diet Coke. Does anybody have one?

We are on the dis, I thought all the fairy dust people were sprinkled with came from their unicorn dance parties? No? :lmao:

I will always love to slum it at Pop. Pop slummers unite!

:thumbsup2 Did they have their keys, or did they turn around and walked away until someone opened the gate (with the key)?
The mom never opened her tote bag...just continued to stand there. THey didn't, at least while I was watching, turn around and go back into BLT. I am assuming that they came over from the CR...and figured they could swim there since BLT is 'technically' part of CR...but didn't know that it was keyed access. I didn't notice them at the pool while I was there, and they weren't standing around when we left, about 45 mins later.

:lmao: Hehehe.. The whole family are standing by the gate waiting for someone with the key to open the gate so they can get out... while their little children crying and begging to get out of there.. :rotfl2: And all the resort guest are wondering what are they waiting for.. just standing there looking stupid. :rotfl:

OH.. poor little kids.. it's not their fault.

I really find the comments about "slumming" interesting. As far as I have seen (and this isn't the first thread where this issue has become heated) nobody staying at AoA has EVER inferred that someone staying at Pop was lesser in any way.
Instead, several of us have made the argument that when someone can pay almost 75 percent less and still use the amenities at AoA, then WHY would they bother to pay the rates at AoA which we can all agree are pretty outrageous? They have to pull you in with some features that are unique to that resort or the majority of people are going to find it a waste.
In my opinion it's about marketing and perceived value for your dollar. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of the human being. I am NOT saying Pop is a dump. In fact we're choosing to stay there on our next trip and we're looking forward to it.
I just don't understand why a discussion about amenities and use rights has to imply a value judgement. It doesn't look to me like the people at AoA are the ones making assumptions.

NOBODY is implying Pop is a slum, lol! We are just trying to lighten the mood from a previous discussion that got a little tense, and yes, all of us saying it are Pop guests, so that shows we are just messing around.

BTW Pigletto, looks like we will be at Pop around the same time!

I guess people are missing the sarcasm mark all over the place today. Good to know it wasn't just me.

So, because you went there, here is my obligatory explanation as to not cause any confusion on the matter. "I know POP is not an actual slum. I employed use of sarcasm to infer that because POP has lesser amenities and comes with a smaller price tag that we were equivalent to a slum. Which is not true, but funny. I am in no way judging anyone for where they choose to stay."

Pigletto, my judgement is the one that Disney itself has put into place: We will fence around the brand new, high tech stuff so only the people staying there can use it. But, if you happen to be at one of the older value resorts, anyone can hop on by and take a dip. I am looking at equal enforcement of policies. That is all.

You know as I was typing my heated reply I thought .."You know pigletto.. you're going to be staying with some of these people in a few months.. maybe it's better if you just shut up."
Clearly this is one of those moments I didn't listen to the smart inner voice:rotfl: Anyway.. if you see me come say Hi.. I'll be the one putting silverware in my pockets while using my MGM mug at the refill station;)

I am sorry if I missed any sarcasm. I hate the thought that people might think I am judging Pop goers as some lower caste when that's not what I mean at all. I don't mean to be so touchy:flower3:
