Going to POP 10/21-25. Is the 50's building the only "good" one to stay in? Will also be celebrating adult bday. Should I check into anything special?

Hi
Welcome to the Dis!!
I've stayed in the 70's and 50's and actually, I liked the 70's better since we were in building 10 and were closer to the front and the busses. I also liked the 50's, but we weren't as close to the front and food court. I'm celebrating my DH's birthday in Dec. and have all kinds of stuff planned as surprises for him. Your could have a special birthday cake at one of the restaurants that you'll be eating at. Also, get a birthday button at guest services at the park, or I think Pop might also have them. We're going boating as one of my DH's surprises and we're going on a wishes fireworks cruise. Have a great time at DW!!

We stayed in 70's, too, and liked it very much. The sections I don't think I would care for are 80's & 90's, due to distance from Everything Pop. (And theming...I don't have as many found memories of those decades! :) )

Welcome to DIS! Pop is my favorite value resort. I've stayed in the 50's and 60's buildings and enjoyed both. It all depends on what you want to be close to or away from at Pop. If you want a quieter stay - avoid a room around the pools. There are preferred rooms in the 50's and 60's and they are a little closer to the food court and the buses. There are rooms that you can see fireworks from - you can do a search on DIS and check out which "decade" that would be. If you like frozen coke - check out the frozen coke machine in the food court. We enjoyed walking around the resort looking at the big "icons" on the buildings and walking out on the generation gap bridge.

Have fun at WDW and at Pop!

Hi! This will be our first stay at Pop. I have mobility and medical issues, therefore I did request/pay for a preferred room. Is one building a better preferred area than another? Is one closer to the dining area/bus stops? Is one quieter? Does one have a better view? I absolutely LOVE :) these boards... they are the greatest place to get information! Thanks, Kimberly:goodvibes

I too prefer Pop Century to any other value. With that said, I have stayed in both the 50's and the 80's. Depending on the decade your primary guest (the one who booked the room) was born in will usually depend on which decade you are assigned. When I have traveled with my mom, we were in the 50's (sorry Mom...) and when I traveled with my husband (I was the primary) we were in the 80's.

I agree that the 50's is closer to the food court however the 80's is close to the transportation. Staying in the 80's, its just a short walk through the parking lot from the bus to your respective rubix cube.

You can always request a certain decade but you may not always get it. Any decade you stay in will be great, I assure you! Hope you have a great time.

We stayed in the 50s on our first trip. I loved the location and requested either the 50s or the 70s when we went back. (I refuse to pay for preferred.) They couldn't accomodate our request and we were in building 9, in the 80s and 90s area. This location was actually closer to the main building than where we were in the 50s and we were sooo close to the transportation, which was awesome. My husband especially appreciated not having to cut throught the "Everything POP" gift shop at least twice a day to get to the transporation. It was a major distraction for our children, and a big hassle for us. The only "bad" thing was that we didn't use our mugs as much on this trip because we bypassed the main building.

I'm starting to think that there isn't a bad location at Pop.

On another note, on both trips I didn't notice any problems with hearing our neighbors. The worst noise was the toilets flushing, but I didn't think it was too bad either.

That is interesting! I did not know how they assigned the rooms, that is interesting! So, going by that method, we would be in the 60's preferred. Is that good or bad?

So if I, 42 am the primary guest, we should be booked in 60's...........is that a good building? I was kind of hoping for 50s.

Hmmm. I got the 60's (standard room) and no one in our party was born in the 60's so I'm not sure how true that is..........

I was born in the 50's, but I have been assigned to the 50's, 70's, and 90's. If this were the way it was done, adults would not be able to book the 90's.

Hmmm -- I was born in the 50's but we were assigned the 70's. I wonder if I should be flattered?;)

Honestly, I did a lot of research on which location to request, as my parents and sister would be coming with us too and I wanted everyone to enjoy it. I requested 50's, lakeview, 4th floor. We got 70's, courtyard view, 1st floor. They gave us the option of moving to the 60's, 3rd floor, lakeview on our 2nd day, but my parents liked the 70's location and it turned out to be a nice stay. It was quiet and close to the food court and busses.

Only complaint I had was the mold in the bathroom.

We stayed in the 70's and we LOVED it! We were in an area where it was quite. Not that we would have cared, lol. We have kids! We didnt think it was loud in our room and the rooms on either side of us had kids and I was worried about it since I saw that comment alot in the reviews. We thought it was plenty close to Everything Pop, we are hoping to get a room there again this time.

Hope you have a BLAST!
Dana

Ok, ok! I can't say that they always assign rooms based on the decade the primary guest was born in. However, the past four times I've stayed there that has been was the case. Depending on the time of year and the availability, they can't always assign rooms that way.

The 60's is a great decade to stay in! Not only is it close to the main pool but its close to the food court. Not to mention the themeing is awesome! Bell bottoms, peace signs, tye die, yo yos, and playdoy! You can't go wrong with flower power.
