This poor woman can't get a break. Last week after pardoning turkeys at a farm in Alaska, Sarah Palin was giving interviews as part of the press conference.

Yup, after pardoning turkeys, the viewing audience was treated to the slaughter of a couple of the losers.

And of course David Letterman ran with it..

All these people that hated her in the first place, were just looking for something else but came off looking like hypocrites. Yeah, it was a bad PR move, but that's how it's done people. That's how the Thanksgiving turkey got to your table. To me it was sort of Monty Python funny.

Anyway, unless you're a vegetarian or vegan (I am not), you sound ridiculous criticizing Palin. Its scares me that people are so divorced from reality when they pick up their prepacked meat and poultry.

I know that's how it's done, but perhaps she should have had them angle the camera away from the slaughtering? You would have thought she'd have picked up some PR experience running for VP.

I don't think she knew. Plus, even my liberal father thought that cameraman was up to something. Palin was to the left of the shot when she should have been centered.

Well, she started centered but you can tell the camera man saw the turkey start twitching it's last and panned over a little.

Poor turkeys. :(

Yes, I'm a vegetarian. I think most people are too sheltered from the facts of slaughter.

tSad how the concept of journalistic integrity has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Today all the media has to offer is left slanting propaganda, which is fine if you happen to lean to the left but those of us in the center find it mostly offensive.

The whole show is disturbing on 2 fronts, #1, that they think I'm too dumb to notice the manipulations & #2, that they think I can't find alternative sources of information which circumvent their nonsense. I am glad every time I read about the demise of the big networks and big newspapers because to me it signifies that we, as a culture, have finally caught on.

I don't like SP but I felt kind of badly for her this time. Too many people really do not understand where their food comes from and do not want to know. One of our area VOAG schools had an issue because a student's project was raising pigs. Once folks found out that these animals were going to be turned into bacon they freaked out and tried to stop it. This girl was raised on a farm and was surprised that other people ate bacon and ham and pork chops but wanted to pretend that meat came in nice little packages at the grocery store.

While SP could have had a little more control of the surroundings in this instance she did not run from the fact that turkeys are raised and killed for food.

::yes:: I've raised and slaughtered chickens. I've gone hunting for wild pigs, deer, moose, bear, etc. I've butchered my own meat.

The point of my post wasn't to bash SP, she's gotten enough of that already (earned or not). That's why I started this thread with "Poor Sarah Palin" and not "Sarah Palin goofs again!"

I couldn't agree more.

I fully respect people who choose to live their lives as vegetarians, and I also think that people who eat meat should be required to see an animal slaughtered.

That being said, seeing a slaughterhouse in real life and watching the newest Faces of Death are two different things. It seems like on the farm, much like in Washington, people would rather use fear than the truth to sway others.

The New York Times ran an editorial of course criticizing Palin for this, and said the turkeys behind her were being…"executed"! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Apparently the elitists at The New York Times were shocked — SHOCKED — to learn that the meat that lands on their dinner tables is…DEAD…and it apparently never got a fair trial. What a bunch of fools they are.

I'd have to say this is about the only time I've ever felt sorry for her. But where were her people to stir that away? It wasn't the darn gotcha media, it was her own people who put her in that position. And I don't know that the whole thing was an attempt to bash her, it was just generally weird. If she is going to be honked off at anyone it should be her staff.
And, what does this have to do with the liberal media?

Yeah, you can't really blame this on the MSM, since it was just a local affiliate.

And LOL @ the "No Fair Trial" comment :rotfl:

My first reaction to the video is "So what?!?!?" What's "wrong" with it? It's a turkey farm shortly before Thanksgiving... what do people think goes on there about this time of year??? It's been pretty funny to read the media's reaction to this "story". They've been clueless from the start. The first AP story I read on it said that the turkey was being put in to a "grinder"... no, it was being bled.

The responsibility for what was on the video lies with one person... the videographer. They are the one that frames the scene and chooses the angle. As for Palin's "people" baring some responsibility, well for starters unless you're looking through the viewfinder, there's no knowing how loose or tight the shot is on Palin. Even if Palin caused the turkey "processing" to be seen by moving to one side or another, the camera operator could have zoomed in to remove the turkey from the frame.

No. The handler simply says something to the governor or the cameraman, or stops the interview. And it wasn't as if the cameraman was 50 feet from the governor, or the turkeys were 100 yards further down. All he/she had to do was move the governor so that wouldn't be in the background. The blame lays with her people who put her in that situation and didn't correct it.

The videographer actually asked Palin if she wanted to switch to another location and her response was "No Worries." She hasn't a clue.

Keith Olberman was on vacation when this occured and waited until he was back on the air to watch and comment on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VCBCoZY1vMKeith's commentary on this video is worth watching.

Sorry, but Keith Olbermann and his "footage of turkey extermination" has never said a thing "worth watching." When he says "I'm leaving television," that will be worth watching.

Moreover, no one who eats meat has the right to be "justifiably outraged" by the video as Olberfool said. In fact, I have the right to be justifiably outraged at those who eat meat and are outraged by this. Having other people slaughter your food for you — and then acting all self-righteous and morally indignant about having to witness it being done — is not a virtue. It is a deep and profound moral disgrace. Kind of like Keith Olbermann is a disgrace.

And finally, I am also justifiably outraged that yet another media outlet has used a phrase (in this case, "extermination"; in the New York Times' case, "executed") that is properly used to discuss the killing of HUMAN BEINGS to talk about slaughtering turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner. It demeans and belittles those humans over our history who have, in fact, been "exterminated," putting them on a par with a bunch of dead turkeys. Once again, Keith Olbermann is the "worst person" of the day.
