Poor Quality Souvies

Don't buy the diecast monorail. If you do, don't buy it for kids. The connectors are made of cheap plastic. The kids snapped it apart the first day. My son was so disappointed. When his grandma and grandpa went to Disney for a convention and asked what he wanted for a souvenier, you guessed it- monorail. We now have two broken monorail sets. We've renamed it the octorail (8 individual broken monorail pieces.)

I'm using two insulated WDW cups, not mugs, from 1980 that are in top notch shape. One is Epcot, the other Magic Kingdom. I bought them at a garage sale ten years ago. They've been through the dishwasher 1000 times.
I bought a Splash mountain cup in 2004 that didn't last six months before it fell apart.
I think they just made things better back in the day. :goodvibes

We bought our DS3 a set of toy buses in May 08, and they have been great. He loves them, and they have outlasted a few of his Hot Wheels cars.

I guess we've been very lucky with souvies. I'm drinking coffee out of a mug right now that we bought back in 2003. We've had chipping from the raised character mugs but my DD's not that careful while loading the dishwasher. Now the Tshirts we've had a few problems out of. We now have a hole in our 2000 tshirt, and our 2003 def has issues. One of our snowglobes from 1998 has yellowed, but that's just age.

I've had an oversized tinkerbell mug for 5 years and use it all the time. I think its hit or miss with souvies.

Just a reminder that if you do buy any souviners make sure to keep the reciepts for awhile. We just went in May and I bought a tshirt.I washed the shirt just as it said in the label and hung it todry. The writing and picture is starting to flake off. I emailed them and they said they would send me another or refund my money if I had the reciept which I don't now because it got thrown away. Just a tip. :goodvibes

LOL, thanks. I have to show my wife this. I keep everything! and my wife wants me to get rid of my Disney recepts from: 2001, 2006, 2008, now I have a reason to keep them.

Thanks

I have 3 mugs that I got at WDW that I have had for about 10 years. They are in like new condition...surprising that none ever got chipped during moving! I actually use one of them at least 3 or 4 days a week for my morning tea (I drink chai tea instead of coffee). I am a creature of habit when it comes to my morning tea! :goodvibes It sounds like yours was a fluke or perhaps got scraped or chipped somehow. Perhaps buy a new one on your next trip. :wizard:
