Poor Quality Souvies

I am still using my Disney mug with 2004 on it. Everyday for the past 5 years!

I have a giant coffee mug that I bought this spring. There's something wrong with the glazing. The coffee seeps through enough so that the mug looks dirty but doesn't actually leak :rolleyes1

This is one of my pet peeves! I work hard for my money and expect something to last. So that being said...

I have had dishes from disney shopping (I know not WDW) and the glaze cracked immediately on them. The food would then seep in the cracks and totally unsafe to eat off of. They did offer half my $ back.

The 3 toy buses. The wheels came off immediately. As in the rubber-ish like part off of the wheel part. Not broken off. Within 5 minutes of normal play.

The cups that have glitter inside. It was cracked. I bought it going out the door to go home. Drove home and opened it up and noticed. Guest services wouldn't replace it unless I shipped it back to them (it was a $3 cup but one my DS wanted). It wasn't worth shipping back. It would have cost more then $3.

The $70 monorail set my DS6 wants but no way. I can see it is a piece of junk just looking at it!

We don't really buy alot so for all of this to have happened really annoys me. I did buy him the metal monorail for $15 but it is hooked together with plastic and won't stay. Not broken but won't stay.

And I have 2 mix max's here that won't work. We already have one that does so it isn't user error.

I agree that the quality of merchandise at WDW has really gone downhill. Especially the newer thin, awful t-shirts! I have items from 10 or 11 years ago that I still use a lot, and you can definitely see the difference in quality. We bought a small plush Eeyore on our last trip that we discovered had 4 different holes in it!

I'm planning to return a pin bag I bought on our last trip, too. I never even used it ... the "pages" inside are literally too flimsy to hold pins properly and the nylon dividers they put in to separate the pin pages aren't even sewn in straight. And it was $50!! I have an older pin bag from Disney Store online that is heavy duty with nice, thick padded pages. The difference between the two bags is amazing.

I know that there can be flukey things, though, too. In 2000, I bought the coolest mug from the Contemporary. It had tiny "Contemporaries" in all different colors scattered all over it. By the 5th washing, almost all of them had mysteriously disappeared! :confused3

I bought two cups. Clear glass with handles on it. On the side was mickey painted on, and on the bottom was yellow, with a red outline of a mickey head. I bought two of them. I really would've liked to have these to go with my mickey pieces dish set, however the paint is fading and coming off fairly easily. There was no glaze over the design after it was finished. They replaced one of them because the design nearly washed right off after the first wash. It makes me sad, but I know nothing lasts forever.

You should always save your receipts if you're not going to be going back. If you go back to the shop, they usually don't question because for the most part, because disney items can only be purchased at disney.

A few years back we let DD (now 14) buy a ring at the Poly for like $25. It was a Mickey head with blue crystals for the face and ears. Home not too long and one ear came out. On our next trip (POFQ) we were looking at them and she was begging, I told her no since that one had lost it's stone. The girl at the counter overheard and told her to come get a replacement, that should not have happened. Well, we're home a few months and darn if it doesn't happen again. We took it with us on our next visit and a CM at the YC relpaced it yet again. Well, after that, whenthe stone fell out we just said "oh well"

Picked up a Mickey toothbrush with a light-up handle for DGS, 7 bucks or so. Didn't light up. He didn't care, though, he was just happy to have a Mickey toothbrush! So no biggie.

I forgot about earrings I got once. Stone fell out within 2 weeks. I also had some charms, those little $3 ones. The piece seperated causing me to lose the charm yet the hook part was still attached.

Last year at ASMo resort gift shop we bought small Mickey post it notes. (Red castle shaped background magnetic base, w/picture of Mickey and his signature, I believe.) When we got home we realized that the post its stick to each other but once peeled, they stick to nothing else! I can't even use them as a regular note pad because the post its curl up after you peel them off the pad.

Just a reminder that if you do buy any souviners make sure to keep the reciepts for awhile. We just went in May and I bought a tshirt.I washed the shirt just as it said in the label and hung it todry. The writing and picture is starting to flake off. I emailed them and they said they would send me another or refund my money if I had the reciept which I don't now because it got thrown away. Just a tip. :goodvibes

Who do you email (could you share the address?) if you have trouble with an item? We are just back from our disney trip and found one of our pins we bought at AK had a broken back (the actual tack on the back of the pin was broken off), I would like to be able to send it back if possible. If there was no way to send it back, it's not a huge deal since it was only $12, but if I could send it back with my receipt (which I have) and possibly get a replacement that'd be great.

Aside from that, we've had no problems with faulty merchandise and everything we've bought has held up very well.

As far as the mug goes, I don't really think you can expect a mug you paid $9 for to last forever, how about getting a new mug that you'll actually use in it's place.

Hey, if nothing else it's a great excuse to buy a new souvenir!

I bought 6 coffee mugs in December. The "Mickey's Coffee Brand" ones. I bought two Goofy, two Minnie and two Mickey. The glaze on one of the Goofy mugs began to flake immediately. I called, faxed my receipt and recieved a new one. A couple weeks later I noticed that the new one and the other original Goofy mug were doing the same thing. I called and they replaced them with two Mickey mugs, since I figured there was a "Goofy" problem :-).

The CM was careful to explain that my mugs were decorative souvenirs and even though they said dishwasher safe on the bottom, I should not expect them to hold up to use. I explained that $9 mugs were not my idea of obects 'd art and even though they wouldn't replace them again, I'd use them, wash them and toss them out. Clutter isn't my thing! So far my Mickey and Minnie mugs are doing fine with daily use.

We're going again this December, I plan on buying a few trading pins and that is about it.

The email and phone number should be on the reciept. When you call, they will ask you for the transaction number.

What?! That's crazy! I'll have to remember not to buy any "decorative" mugs next month! :rotfl:

Let me tell you about a souvenir that we've been thrilled with!

My 11 yo son and I went to WDW last spring. At Epcot in that store that is almost directly in front of you when you enter World Showcase, he found a magnetic pin that you could program your own message in it - like one of the MythBusters sometimes wears. It was $7 or less. He played and played and played with that thing. He was wearing his brother's Indiana Jones fedora so he stuck it to the hat band. In the morning he would program it with "Good Morning" or "Have a Magical Day". At the Studios he put "Snakes! Why did it have to be Snakes!" and so on. He got lots of comments and had so much fun changing the sayings. And it still works! Definitely worth the $.

About your Mix Max, feel your pain, I have a mix Stick that has never worked but I lost the receipt so Digiblue will not honor the warranty!

I did just buy a Mix Max but I got it for $25 shipped and made sure I put the receipt in the box in case it just stops working.

We also had the motorola disney phones and they lasted less than a year.

I would think Disney would want products associated with their name to be top quailty! not been the case in my expierence.

Also owned the Mickey TV and DVD player and the DVD player broke.

:scared1:

sounds like a cool souvenir!

I have one of these; I got the Mickey blue one three or four years ago. It is second in my mug rotation so it gets tossed in the dishwasher about every three days....not a chip on it. Not one flake. I love it!

I've had earrings and cell phone charms that the stones fell out within days, also.

Last year I got a frosted mug that said Magic Kingdom 2008. When I got it home, I washed it put it to dry. The next day I went to use it, poured water in it, it cracked in 3 big places just from pouring water in it the very first time I tried to use it!

I was going to take it back this year, but didn't feel like lugging it down there.

This year I noticed the Mickey head shaped earring looked better and had bigger stones so I decided to try them again. I have been wearing them everyday for 2 months and not 1 stone has fallen out yet!

I've purchased many Disney mugs over the years and I think that they hold up pretty well. I haven't ever bought any of the oversize mugs though.

I did buy one of the decorative mugs once and it shattered just from sitting still. Or at least no one was near it at the time. I got it on sale so I just tossed it.

We stayed at Pop from May 22-29 and my DD is really into the peace sign. She had to have a necklace that had a peace sign on it. It is less than 3 months later and it is broken. I am one of those weirdos that keep the receipts for souvies and next trip planning so I still have it. Do I just take it to them and show them the broken necklace? Or is it to late?
