Poor Dogs

My girl goes to visit with Nana and Grandpa and is spoilled rotten :thumbsup2

I wouldn't go on vacation if I didn't have a safe haven/home for her to go to.

It saddens me that a person would leave their pets in such a terrible condition to go to WDW, the only consolation is that hopefully the two surviving dogs will be adopted by a loving home where they are wanted ::yes::

My cockatoo stays at home and my neighbours (who love him) are happy to look after him. They get him out of his cage and sit and watch TV with him :rotfl:

Nice to see we have lots of pet lovers on these boards :thumbsup2

Take care all :)

I have been working for the CT humane society for two years now and you would not believe what we see on a daily basis. People wonder why I need the magic of Disney.:wizard: I am just glad that I work for a place that saves more animals then they destroy

Just an idea for those of you who want to travel but don't feel that your dogs would do well boarded at a kennel or vet. We adopted a pair of rescued litter mates back in June & were worried about boarding them due to having been moved around so much during their rescue time. They've both developed a tiny bit of separation anxiety, and one is skittish around men.

Anyway, we have a dog-walker who comes once a week, and she does overnights to sit for owners on vacation as well, so we had her come stay at our home with them. One of our friends also offered to bring their dog over a few nights during the week for "play dates".

Since the dogs love their sitter & our friend, they had plenty of attention while we were gone & no problems at all.

It wasn't too expensive to have the walker do overnights, I'm fairly sure it was less than a kennel would have cost for a week in our area - especially for 2 dogs.

Even if you don't regularly need a walker, you may still be able to find one who's willing to do the overnights & then just have them come over a few times for the month or two before the trip to get familiar with the pets. :)

My little boy, Riley, male Maltese one year old and 4 pounds 8 ounces if so much a part of DH's and my life that we get so sad when we have to leave him. We hardly go out anymore for dinner because of Riley. I have so many friends who love him and volunteer to keep him when we go on vacation...he is so spoiled...and he licks you to death..,,,how could anyone be so mean as to hurt a pet?

some bad stuff on this thread. treat your dogs like you would expect to be treated. ruff isnt how they need to live their short lives.

this breaks my heart. Today I just went to the store to stock up on extras (food, treats) for my sister while she pet sits for us. I hate not being able to take the boys with us while we go. I don't have kids but I feel my dogs are my children.

I know this woman personally and she loved all her animals. Reporters will write anything that thay will make the news.

yea she must have to leave them with no food or water, so that one of them died because of it.

I know this woman personally and she loved all her animals. Reporters will write anything that they think will make the news. Some people just have to believe what ever they read and hear because they are nothing more than sheep, waiting for someone to do their thinking for them.

I know this woman personally. I think that if some of you people would take a moment to think about how you would feel if you were in her shoes or if she was someone you cared about, you would want people to know the whole story before they start judging. She truly loved her dogs with all of her being and she would not do anything to put her puppies in harms way. All of the dogs had food and water. They were also being taken care of when she went to Disney. The dogs would go with the family to Disney, if it was going to be more than a day trip and had several times in the past. Do everyone a favor and when you read this take a moment to think how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot, before you think negative thoughts that you feel that you must express for others to read, think that this could be anyone of you or someone you care about. Remember that she is human and she has feelings too. She is not this evil person that the news pertrays her to be. She is a very kind and loving person. She misses her sweet loving dalmations.

i think her version of love no one needs!

so what is the real story then? how come you didn't post it?

maybe a bridge somewhere is missing a troll.

First off I don't care who it is I feel if you abuse any animal they should do to you what you did to that animal WHATEVER it is, why is it ok to hurt animals but these people have RIGHTS those animals have RIGHTS to it burns me up to see people abuse animals we need harsher laws against this! There has to be something to this story or she wouldn't have been charged, I wasn't there so I don't know.I do know that I have seven animals and I just got back from a 3 week trip they all were taking care of by friends and family if I couldn't have gotten someone I would have put them in a kennel (couldn't take them to the condo, or to Mexico). I don't understand what these stupid people are thinking when they do this, duh would you want to be treated this way? People like this are taking up my space and air, I hope they all get what they deserve!

I am very sad to say A video that surfaced on internet site YouTube appears to show a Marine tossing a puppy off a cliff, this makes me sick and I hope if this is true, the Marines will do the right thing! I see no Honor,Courage or Commitment in what this Marine did I only see a coward to hurt a defenseless animal. I support our Military especially the Marines since my husband is a MARINE, I DO NOT SUPPORT ANIMAL CRUELTY. He deserves for someone to do to him, what he did to that puppy!

If she hadn't done something wrong, A, one of the dogs wouldn't be dead, and B, they wouldn't have taken the others away.

Anyone else notice that this poster has only three posts (all on this thread) and that she has three Dalmations in her avatar? I may be wrong, but I think this poster may know the woman VERY well and may even see her every time she looks in the mirror.

Saying that, what happened is terrible, but we don't know the whole story. What if she had hired someone to come take care of the dogs and that someone let her down and didn't do it? My big Akita stays at his trainers, because no one else could handle him and I know he'll be well taken care of. My little schih tzu has stayed with a coworker before when family was not available (she would not handle a kennel well at all). I knew the coworker really well and knew Maggie would be spoiled rotten, but I still worried about her. I had considered letting my neighbor's son come over to take care of Maggie, but decided he was too immature to handle the responsibility and might neglect her.

If I had decided to let the neighbor's son care for my little dog, I could have come home to the same situation that lady did. He's a good kid and about 12 y/o, so probably could have handled it, but I wasn't willing to take a chance.

There is a special place in hell for someone who does this sort of thing. If you don't have someone to stay with/care for your animals, don't want to leave them at a kennel and cannot afford to hire a dogwalker/dogsitter (even for a day trip - we pay our dogwalker to come when we are gone for the day - more than 6-8 hrs), you either (1) cannot afford the trip or (2) should not own an animal. Owning an animal is not a right - it is a privilege and responsibility, just like having a child. Taking care of your animal should be PART OF THE BUDGET FOR YOUR TRIP!!! EVEN A DAY TRIP!

Animals depend on us, and it breaks my heart to see people treat their so-called family members like this. Honestly, it doesn't matter if they DID have food and water if the ambient temperature was a certain level and there was no cool shelter for the dogs - in the shade of a tree with high temps/humidity does not count! Dogs do not have sweat glands, and they cannot control their internal temperature as we do!

As an aside, I have had to report dogs in a car in the WDW parking lot more than once. Thank goodness the cops have the right to break a car window; an animal can die very quickly in the hot Florida sun, and it's worse in a car (even with a cracked window).

Sorry for the rant, but I could not help myself!!!!!!!

(We budget for a dogsitter who is a tech at our local vet office - she brings her dog over, and the dogs know her as part of their extended family. It is expensive, but worth it to know that we can leave them in an environment they are familiar with...)

I am planning to WDW and will be in WDW 4/20 -4/26 for my first stay, before going there I planed my complete trip and I hire a dog sitter for my dogs for a complete week. I haven’t read any story I would like to read complete story and I would like to see this woman (monster):hippie: . pirate: :scared1:

I think its positively tragic what happend to those dogs! It really breaks my heart to see anything bad happen to animals. Perhaps this woman did arrage for someone to come and care for the dogs, and they did not do thier job. This only illustrates why it is so important to leave your pet with a licenced, bonded and insured petsitter; licenced kennel; or a really, really trusted friend or family member.

My heart goes out to the deceased dog, and I hope its in a better place. :sad2:
