Pool use at DVC resorts

Hi-if friends are visiting us at our resort, can they go swimming with us? Or is this verboten?? (We will be at AKV, they are staying at POR)

Technically, if you are still under max occupancy, and got room keys for the friends, they'd be ok to use the AKV pool. But I don't think Disney allows the same person to be on the same reservation.

Unfortunately, swimming at another resort you are not staying at is pool hopping. Pool hopping is allowed for DVC members only.

and even DVC members can't use AKL, BC/YC or BLT pools unless they are staying there.

Depending on the time of year, I would ask the lifeguards. We asked a few years ago and we were told, "any guest of yours is a guest of ours". This was at AKL too. It was not very busy and mid day. Now if it is premier season - it probably won't happen.

You could also try at night when it is not very busy at the pools period, but definitely ask the lifeguards as they know what the pool capacity is.

POR is one of my favorite pools. Guests at POR can also use POFQ and vice versa so it's 2 pools for the price of one.

No need for the key unless asked. Personally, I have never been asked to show a key but we tend to go at less crowded times.

You need keys at BCV for Stormalong Bay -- they check.

Also you need a key at Vero to open the gate that surrounds the pool.

What we always do is max out our keys. Often there are only 3 of us in a 2 bedroom, so we have plenty of keys for visiting friends.

We didn't need our KTTW at AKL that I remember. As much as we have pooled hopped all over the World, we have only been asked for our card once. It was at the Poly going to get towels. Not an issue for us as I had my KTTW that said member.

Kidani Village pool does have a locked gate to enter the pool area. You will need your room key to open the gate.

If you go elsewhere, you will need your room key that shows you are a guest on DVC points and your DVC blue ID.

When we went to visit Kidani last year we did not need a room key to get in. DH and I just went in, walked around and sat at the bar for a drink. Maybe they have changed it since last April

I think it's more accurate to say you MIGHT need it. Of all the pools I've hopped to, only Stormalong Bay has ever checked.

Same here other than our one time getting towels at the Poly. That was before the towel carts and you had to go ask a real person for them.

When we stayed at Kidani in July 2009, there was a guard going around checking everyone's room keys (and the pool area wasn't even that crowded).

One shouldn't need the blue DVC card but will need DVC member on it to PH. Also, the rule is one has to check prior to see if PH is allowed at that time AND be prepared to be asked to leave if the pool nears capacity. As for listing others on a room, it can be done even if they are on another reservation, the only restriction I'm aware of is one can't be lead on more than one with the same name. We had 9 units in Sept (BCV & BWV) and I was able to check in to every single one and pay the $95 fee associated with each exchange.

We agree - we needed no room key to enter the pool area from either end last December.
