Pool space hogging

Vent! Family of four take a pool area dining table and four chairs. When I went to sit on one of the additional empty chaise lounges I hear " excuse me, that's taken. She then proceeds to cover them with towels. No one has sat in that chair for the entire hour I've been here.

My response? "you're right, I'm sitting in it"

I assume you would have already seen the chair and noticed no one has been around for an extended period of time already and that there are no other available chairs. In this situation, if someone leaves a bunch of stuff and is really in the pool area, I would guess they would notice when someone was moving their stuff and let that person know. Most people will keep an eye on their belongings. Of course, some people will buy $1 flip flops and try to use them to save their seats while they go off and do other things.

Do people do that???? How sneaky!

But what are people supposed to do with their stuff while they swim? Like a PP said, I have a cover-up, phone, flip flops and refillable mugs. I am not going to cart all my stuff into the pool with me LOL! If I go for a swim/play with the kids in the pool for over an hour I expect my stuff to be there when I return.

I think if you are in the pool area, it's okay to place stuff on a table/chair while you are swimming. If you plop a bunch of stuff down at noon, leave the pool area to go have lunch, go to a park, take a nap, etc. and just want to be sure you have a spot when you meander back at 2:00? That is what I think is wrong. Problem is, how do you know if someone is physically in the pool area or not?

I think we all agree that you can't save places with just a hotel towel, it is impossible to know if someone left it behind hours ago. But personal stuff tells me they are in the pool/pool area. That's the rule I go by anyway, I am too busy on my vaca to watch and monitor somebody's personal belongings stalk their chairs and time them to see if/when they come back.
Stuff is less of a problem. If someone is leaving their cell phone, chances are, they aren't leaving it for hours. They are leaving it while they are in the pool. Or while they are in the hot tub.

It is putting the towel down on a chair and leaving for breakfast. Or for a park. Or for Disney Springs. That is the problem.

No, a resort towel does not hold a chair. Possessions hold a chair. If someone comes back from breakfast, lunch, the park or the Springs and their towel has been moved and someone is in "their" chair, too bad.

If they want to claim they were only gone for a minute, and I've been in the chair for an hour, I know that they are lying.

Ehh depends really. What if someone wakes up at 6am, puts a towel on some chairs or a cabana, because they want to go have a relaxed breakfast without worrying about finding space when they're done? Perfectly reasonable to me.

A chair can't be reserved if you are not in the pool area.

Just wait Disney will introduce for our convenience a FP+ booking system for this.

You're entitled to your opinion but your "book" doesn't matter here unless you own the hotel. If you feel like the chairs aren't being used, you're welcome to go to the hotel and lodge a complaint.

I always leave personal belongings on my chairs on top of the towels such as beach bags, clothes, etc. If you displace my belongings, there's going to be a problem. I've read about numerous fights starting this way.

Yes many fights have been started by entitled selfish behaviour

What difference does the order make?

Because in one case you are using a chair, in the other you are stopping someone who wants to use a chair now so that you can have a chair sometime later

@ poohlove, I didn't say napping was a valid excuse. I simply said, WE (anyone at the pool or beach) doesn't know why someone is away from their chairs. I personally would never throw someone's stuff off but that's just how I was raised.

I think the main point here is that we all know how the system works and we know what's required to get chairs. Get there early and throw stuff on them. There is no point in complaining about it when we all know how the game is played. This discussion reminds me of the old argument about FP- where the sleepy heads were upset that all the popular FP tickets were already gone by the time they arrived.

I don't agree that is how the system works.
I think most of us can agree that while you are in the pool area you can reserve one set of seats (not a lounger and a table/chairs) and since there are no cubbys or lockers most of us will put our towels and other assorted things on a chair (we would use one for our family of 5) while we swim but I would think the majority don't find it acceptable to "dibs" a chair if you are having breakfast elsewhere

Exactly. I don't think anyone is complaining about people leaving their belongings on a chair while using the pool. It's putting towels on chairs hours and leaving them there while you go somewhere else because you may want to use a lounger later on in the day that's the problem.

A few years ago, we were at a hotel resort with an elaborate pool, complete with water slide and everything. In the morning, a mom cordoned off a table, 2 chairs, and 4 lounge chairs with signs saying that it was for so-and-so's birthday party. She didn't actually pay for a cabana or anything. She made the signs at home and brought them with her so they'd look official. 5-6 hours later, the mom and her group showed up and occupied the space that they'd been "saving" (aka hogging) since 8:00 am that morning.

Unbelievable.

Time for the Cw4d unabashed school of shameless manners.

When someone says that lounge is reserved always say, "oh thank you so much for saving it for me." before you plop in the chair and take it.

When someone's stuff is on the chair you want, move it. If they get mad be sure to clearly and calmly explain to them that because they aren't completely satisfied, you are waiving your customary $10 laundry and/or moving service fee just this once.

I don't have much patience for selfish people so I would take their stuff to the lost and found if I saw it sitting there for an hour or more. Same with people trying to save parade spots all day by putting towels and stuff on the sidewalks in the parks. I think the CM's now pick those up.
