Pool showers

A couple of years ago I was staying at the BC and for my part, essentially just assumed they had pool showers. Of course, I discovered they did not. And the ship shape club told me they had no showers. I wasn't that familiar with it, so I assumed the entrance I'd gone into wasn't connected to the workout equipment and their bathrooms.

I am trying to decide between BWI and CBR for a one night stay (arriving early morning, and then departing the next afternoon, hence the shower need). In my research it looks like I can use the BWI health club showers. But, I am seeing the same advice for BC and remembering they denied me access to theirs.

Am I missing something with the BC? I am trying to figure out how they could have denied me access even though I was a guest. My only reasoning is maybe she thought I was just sneaking in.

Your experience is still the case. A couple of years ago the spa limited shower access to spa patrons. You are a hotel guest and they limited access to those buying spa services. This was reportedly due to abuse by those that used the showers before when they allowed it. There are no indoor showers for pool guests at SAB. They are reportedly adding them, but I don't know when they will be ready.

Thanks - I haven't used the fitness center, but I guess I just assumed the showers were located in the restrooms area that anyone using the workout equipment could do. So ridiculous to do that at a deluxe!

So I guess my next question, is has anyone experienced problems trying to use them at BWI health center?

Can't you just shower in your room before you check out?

My DME bus will be leaving around 1:30-1:45 so I am going to stay at the resort vs. going to a park. I am going to stay at the pool for a couple of hours. Check out is at 11am. Even with late check out they usually will only offer 12:00, if you are even able to get one. Showering and then going to the pool kind of defeats the point.

Got it- don't know about those resorts but if you may consider AKJ- i know there are showers down by the pool area. It's not connected to a gym, just a huge bathroom/shower area.

I adore AKL - but I was just there for marathon weekend in January and BWI is actually cheaper with my AP (and I plan on buying dvc there soon). I had CBR booked and then this popped up yesterday so I snagged it. I actually can't think of any other resorts without showers at the pool bathrooms other than the Epcot area resorts. Probably location made it easier for people to "sneak" in. But kind of ridiculous to not let people who are actually guests of the resort use it!

Basically, I am flying through MCO on my way to meet friends in New Orleans and I will land around dinner time so I just wanted to be showered so I didn't hold them up.

I've never showered at either of those resort pool showers, but I have showered after the pool on our last day at the pool showers at other resorts. It's what works out best for us with a late flight out our last day and check out at 11am.

BWI fitness center has a lovely shower area and we have used it many times on check-out day to shower, dry and style hair, etc. after pool time. They have locking cubbies to store your swim bag in the a.m. and your regular attire while at the pool. Plenty of towels and wash cloths along with standard shampoos/conditioner and gel soap in a dispenser.

Add me to the list of those who feel it is ridiculous that the YC/BC do not have this type of facility available to its guests. :headache:

Perfect! So glad to hear this, it sounds very nice!

I totally agree!

My understanding is that since the spa is independently operated, they were able to restrict access to the showers to those using the spa services or exercise equipment. As mentioned above, the rationale given was that guests were making a mess in the locker rooms.

Pretty unacceptable policy in my opinion.

Also as mentioned, the rumor is that a poolside locker room/showers is/will be constructed, but I haven't seen a timeline for this.

I had heard at SSR, guests were using the spa locker rooms and letting their children play in the ladies hot tub in the locker room (and run around while ladies were trying to change for spa treatments). They didn't use the shower located under the stairs near the pool because it wasn't as nice as the locker rooms.

I didn't know that. Are both spas run by the same organization? I'm thinking yes.

I can understand the issues at SSR- People who are paying premium prices for relaxing services should not be subjected to children playing in the spa area. Especially if there are other options for showering (what is the shower under the stairs set up? inside? outside?)

I believe the locker rooms and showers in the health club are separate from the spa areas at the Beach & Yacht Club, although I'm not positive because I have only used the locker room for changing, never the spa services.

Thanks for the info!

:goodvibes
