We are going to be at the Poly from May 28th-June 4th. My grandmother lives just outside Orlando. Unfortunately we are not renting a van to visit her so she wants to come visit us for a day(My dad will be with her so 2 non resort guest)..

She wants to visit on the day we are just hanging out at the pool. We plan to have lunch and haven't decided on what to do after that. She DOESN'T swim and is not very mobil. She really wants to see her great grandchildren.

Will she be able to just sit by the pool or beach to watch the kids play?? Again she will not be swimming and wouldn't be staying very long.

Well, part of the problem isn't just the bodies in the water, it's also the bodies in the chairs which leave not enough for resort guests.

It might be a better option to take them and the kids to the beach where they can sit on one of the swings and watch the kids play. The beach area isn't usually very crowded during the day, so they wouldn't be taking up chairs at the pool area. If the kids really want to swim, perhaps go to the quiet pool instead, which is usually less crowded and so a couple extra people using chairs for an hour or so wouldn't be as much of an issue. I'd combine their visit with lunch or dinner at the Kona Cafe.

I would simply ask the hotel staff if this would be an issue. You could call ahead to make plans. This was you can make PS at O'hana's ( my favorite) for lunch/dinner. Or if NO is the answer you will be able to make alternate arrangements. I am going to get flamed for this but I dont see any issue with them visiting. I am sure this isnt the first time it has happened.

Ok i am ready I have on my fire suit.

Well, it better not be when I am there...because I don't want ANYONE who has not paid to stay at the poly breathing the poly air that I paid for. She can breath the air somewhere else, thank you very much. Obviously, I am joking, but this post is no more ridiculous than others you will recieve telling you that it would be wrong to do. Kids want to swim at the volcano pool. It would be great for their great grandmother to spend the day with them! If you have any questions, just ask the front desk. THEY are the ones who will give you the real info. Have fun!

You are paying guests at the Poly! If you have guests for the day I can't imagine why that would be a problem. If none of you were resort guests it would be a different story, or if you were having a whole family visit you it would be different, but I think it would be wonderful for your grandmother and your dad to come see you for a day. Enjoy the time with her!

I agree, with the above. Let the poor woman visit with her great-grandchildren, have we become that callous of a society?

Thank you for the responses. I do agree about maybe going by the beach. I will contact the Poly and ask them. I would hate for my 82 yo grandmother to get kicked out of the pool area... I would even be willing to let her have my chair to use and go without.. Plus not to mention my grandmother cannot be out in the heat for very long anyway.

We definately plan on having lunch at Kona Cafe!

You should change your countdown clock...it still says you're staying at POFQ. :jester:

No one will care if they sit by the main pool. :D

SOME (obviously) have! lol:rolleyes:

Yeah I know... My first and last day are at POFQ and we switched our 7/4 deal over to the Poly... I will go change right now... Thanks!!

I can't imagine it being a problem... I sincerely doubt they'll kick your grandmother out of the pool area...

Double check with the front desk to be sure, but I can't imagine it being a big deal.

We are Freq. Flyers at the Poly Conc. and life is just too short to get that unstrung about a less-than-agile grandma watching the grandkids by the pool for one day. I hope she does visit the Poly and you all have a wonderful time. If I'm there at the same time she can share my lounge chair(LOL). Threehearts

We're paying close to $500 a night to stay at the Polynesian this summer and usually I wouldn't be happy about outside visitors, but I personally would give your grandmother my *own* chair in order to let her see her greatgrandchildren play for an afternoon. I hope you all have a wonderful visit together :)

The front desk does not make the rules for the pool area contrary to what many on these boards feel. That is done by the lifeguards. If the lifeguards do random checks looking for valid resort ID's and your grandparents do not have one, they will in all likelihood be asked to leave. They can't allow one and not allow another non-resort guest. By the sounds of reports on these boards, enforcement by lifeguards at the pools has stepped up this year.

I am not trying to sound callous, but it just seems like you're opening yourself up to possible problems by using the main pool area with people who are not registered guests, a situation which can be avoided by either going to the beach or staying by the quiet pool.

Enjoy your visit with grandma! Hang out by the pool, eat at a Poly restaurant and let her enjoy seeing her great-grandchildren!

Grandma won't be ruining anyone's vacation by sitting on a chair watching her grandchildren have fun. Heck, if she were at my resort and there were absolutely no seats left for her to sit in (which I've never seen) , she could have mine. Have a nice visit! :D

I highly doubt every chair will be taken at the pool and unless they are I also highly doubt the lifeguards would check for resort IDs from every single person in your party. Especially for an elderly woman who will not be diving in the pool. I'm sure they'd think she were with you and if they asked to see a resort ID I'm sure one would do it. If it were at the YC/BC it would be a different story since i know they're much stricter with their rules. And while the front desk may not make the pool rules, I can almost guarantee that if you call the front desk and ask them, they'll say it's fine and if a lifeguard were to give you any trouble and you said you asked the front desk first, they'd be fine with it too. Though I don't think any lifeguard would hassle you, especially since the woman will probably just be sitting in a chair in the shade. If they did ask you for IDs and demanded your grandmother produce one, I also highly doubt they'd make her leave since she'd be with you and not using the pool.

I have often walked the grounds of resorts, including the Poly many times, and sat down to take in the atmosphere, including the pool areas. Now, if I saw people were searching for seats, I would get up, but that has never been the case. Also, the grandma would be with pool guests, so it wouldn't be like she's just taking up a seat like I have done, she's with her family.

This "boot Granny out" stuff seems crazy to me. Remember, despite the sky-high rates, the Poly IS a "public place" of sorts. Captain Cook's sells their overpriced chicken fingers to anyone with the cash, and some of their tables border on the poolside tables. IF a lifeguard were to come by and check ID's, your family would produce them... I can't imagine anyone would shake down a granny for ID, expecially if she wasn't swimming! Disney offers resturants, shops and rental boats to gobs of people NOT staying at the Poly. Reality is, there are always folks in the "pool vicinity" who are not staying at the Polynesian, and there is no rule against them being there.

Geesh, I would have to agree with most of the posters, let your grandmother come, sit by the pool, watch and enjoy the kids. This is Disneyworld for heaven's sake, which is supposed to be all about families. If anyone questions you, tell them you are having a "Magical Gathering", just like they advertise.

I have never seen lthe lifeguards check id's at the Polynesian (even when large groups came over from MK swimming in their shorts/t-shirts), and we have stayed there many times. Also, Captain Cook's does offer outside seating at the tables outside, near the pool. You will not have a problem.

People often stop at the pool seating on their way out of Ohana or the Luau to enjoy a drink from the bar. They are not regiestered guests, nor are they asked to leave the poolside seating.

Enjoy your stay at the Polynesian. :wave2:
