Pool in December

Does it matter if your hotel has a pool in December? We're thinking of staying at the Howard Johnson in Anaheim. We would like to swim but will it be too cold in the beginning of December?

I guess it depends on you. But it is likely to be cool during the day so you are more likely to enjoy the spa.

We were at DL last year in the beginning of Dec. My kids loved swimming at night. No complaints about being cold.....

When we were there at the end of November last year, there was not a chance we would have even considered swimming. It didn't get about 65, and rained almost every day. We spent most of out trip in long sleeved shirts, if not jackets/hoodies.

I think that depends on you and your family. I was in Anaheim for a convention at the end of February a day after a big storm. I walked to Disneyland late afternoon and to me it was getting chilly (I Had gloves scarf and extra sweatshirt in my bag) and I saw families swimming at my hotel and the one across the street.

Yep, depends on what you consider cold. December is usually right around 60-65 degrees. It rarely gets above 70.

We live here and the weather varies. My kids swim year round 5 days a week in a heated pool (they are on a team). There are days in Dec when it's 80 and days when it's cold & rainy.
The majority of days are right in the middle- high 60's/low 70's in December

I don't think you're going to know for sure until a week or so before your trip.

Just this weekend it was in the 90's Sat & Sun, today it is low 60's and drizzly.

It will depend on the weather. It was close to 80 this past January and my kids and husband swam without complaint. I would have too, but needed the time to get laundry done!

When we were at HoJo the first week of Dec. a couple of years ago, my kids swam in the pool. It didn't get above 68 or 69 degrees the whole time we were there, but compared to the 30 degrees we came from it felt really warm! (to them!)

Last time we went in December my DH and DD swam once and only for a short time cause it was too cold.. and it was a warm day 75ish

Depends on how cold it is where you come from.

We swam in December 2006 when it was about 65-70 degrees but there had been snow on the ground and the temps were around 20 degrees where we came from. Anaheim felt like a really nice summer day in comparison :rotfl:.

The locals on the other hand were bundled up in winter gear and looking at us like we were crazy.

I chimed in earlier but forgot to mention that although my kids were very happy to swim after DL closed last December....my brother was sitting outside the pool watching them - and he was very cold (wearing a heavy jacket and hat). It was warmer in the pool than it was out of it. So while getting out of the water is not fun, heated pools are fine for those who are game.....

I know, I always laugh at this--I grew up in Southern California and then went to college in Michigan and graduate school in the Midwest and then I came back home, people were wearing scarves and hats and I was like, "What? This is shorts weather!" And now that's I've lived in California for the past decade, I'm back to "65 degrees? Brrrrrrrr" :lmao:
