Pool Hopping

I completely understand the idea of doing a "pool sweep", but I'd have some trouble with the idea of pool-hopper profiling (making sure people "look" to belong there). I am no fashion plate and have been known to swim at a pool (including at Disney) in a t-shirt and what might appear to be shorts. (Hey, I'm larger than Pooh and heaven knows no one wants to see this body in most men's swimwear. The more covered up -- the better! ;) ) I sometimes wear a t-shirt at the pool because I go from pasty white to lobster red even with SPF 500 on.

Also I'm not sure how much guests would like being "carded" by the pool patrol -- sort of like "prove you belong here". I think that might cause some resentment among those who really do belong (and I think that's the large majority of people).

Same with questioning people getting off a resort bus or monorail. How welcoming is that? I've seen kids in parks in swimwear or what looks to be swimwear. That doesn't mean they are planning to sneak into the Poly pool between rides on Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion.

I try to understand the concerns about pool-hoppers, but I've never experienced a problem at Disney pools, so it's hard for me to really appreciate that there is a major problem. I just think these "solutions" would create a less than magical atmosphere at the pools for every guest, including those who really do "belong" there.

But you would be there with your family, not getting off the MK boat with a big group of similarly dressed teenagers.

We normally travel during the summer when it's hot and crowded. That is the time of year pool hopping is a big problem, and ID's should be checked. I really don't think the paying guests would have a problem with it, especially if it means more seating and fewer crowds in the pool.

I agree. I know if I were asked for any reason whatsoever for I.D. I'd actually be very happy about it. I'd be happy to see they are making sure my experience at the pool is kept enjoyable. Of course, I'd be able to produce the I.D.;) -- why should someone resent that they make sure you are entitled to be there?!

And I can see people wearing a shirt into the pool - whether it be because they are a larger person or for sunburn protection or whatever, but they generally have on a swimsuit underneith and aren't in in a pair of shorts. And if they do belong there, then showing their resort I.D. shouldn't be any problem. More times than not, they'll have it with them. They do need to get back into their room after all. Call it "pool hopper profiling" or "pool sweeping" or whatever makes you happy but lots of us would probably call it "necessary" at least at some of the pools. If you're entitled to be there you're probably amoung those who'd like to see that they're checking and keeping the pool from getting to be too crowded.

I didn't call all poolhoopers trash so don't try to pick a fight before comprehending my post. I called that particular family trash and that is what they were. Anyone that thinks it is okay to stay at the Motel 6 and then come and take up 10 chairs at a WDW resort pool is more then trash in my opinion but I was trying to be polite. As far poolhoppers I do have a name for them but am too nice to repeat it here. And save your eyerolling for someone that cares! LOL!

Wow... skiwee1, if that is the kind of nasty talk that comes out of someone who stays "Deluxe", I think I'll stick with the moderates, I'd rather not associated with your kind.

based on the sign if i use the spa facilaties at GF then i should be able to use the pool also.

Similar signs are posted at every WDW pool.

Based on the sign it appears that guests who are spending $$$ on spa treatments are allowed to use the pool. I suspect that accounts for a very small minority of non-hotel guests who are using the pool.

i get fitness center and spa facility use when i get the dreammaker gold package. Which dont include actual spa treatments.

Actually GF Resort and Spa is the full name of the hotel. I suspect a person paying $$$ for spa treatments might be one of the (few) pool hoppers who might have a legitimate reason to ask and be granted permission to use the pool facilities for the day.

"Get over myself?" Gee, Tinkerbeth, talk like that could be considered a personal attack and will get this thread closed. It is just a little suspicious when someone who has been registered for 4 years posts for only the 6th time in a highly controversial thread. I wasn't questioning their Disney knowledge. I understand that you and I don't agree on this subject but no need to get nasty. Oh and enjoy your first trip to WDW and your 30th birthday. ::yes::

Rafikian, you're right. The get over yourself was harsh. I apologize. I just get very annoyed when people on these boards think they are the be-all andend all. And I didn't think it was a very nice welcome for that new poster. Not everyone who doesn't agree with us is a troll.

You know I found out just this weekend that a white normal weight tee-shirt has an SPF of only 7. Wet its even less.

Anyone think the Atlanta Braves can still turn it around this season?

I wonder if there will be many tropical storms this year.

Anyone want to talk NASCAR?

Obviously there is no conceivable worth while contribution that can be made on this topic. So lets move on. Anyone want to hijack this thread with me?

Good. One less person is fine with me.

I sure hope none of the rule keepers have ever taken 11 items in the 10 or less lane, or ever driven 56 in a 55 zone, these people must be exhausted from being so perfect. Life is too short, to put this much energy into worrying about what other people do. I always tell my kids to worry about themselves, If you don't believe in pool hopping then don't do it. End of story. Spend more time cuddling your kids and not worring so much about someone else using your pool.

You know this part bothers me more than pool hopping. I don't speed. I can't afford to, my insurance is high enough as it is. I drive at least 4 miles under the speed limit to be sure. I detest those that can't count in the Express Line, I always count my items and if I have more than the limit I choose another line. I don't steal food at the grocery store. The rules say I am not suppose to. One rule is just as easy to follow as any other rule. It just seems to some, that some rules are breakable while others are not.

I do not consider myself perfect, but I do follow rules. You know actually it's very easy to do.

Boylovesbuzz>> Throw in some hockey talk and I am right there with you!

your right about a white cotton t-shirt

no the braves are just losers this yr

there are no tropical storms in santa barbara

and all you have to do in nascar is step on right pedal and turn left at end of straight

You did. It is simply amazing how much angst and turmoil can surround the simple activity of swimming at "The Happiest Place on Earth." I agree with others that if everyone spent more time enjoying their vacation and less time worrying about what someone else is doing, we'd all be a lot happier.

I do not let this make me angry. Only insulting my family makes me angry. Does it bother me, yes and actually it has little to do with swimming or even Disney World for that matter, it has to do with people that think rules are written for others and never for them.

They are the same ones that park in Handicap spots because they are in a hurry, they can't count in the express line, they speed because they are late for work, they cheat on their income tax because the government has enough of their money, they always have an excuse for breaking the rules.

Once a society becomes such that "all" rules are not important then anarchacy is not far behind. So yes it does bother me.

Given my SPF 500 sunblock (which actually seems to work like "come-on-UV-rays-let's-fry-some-skin-block") I'm up to 507. :faint:

The Atlanta Braves have the same chance the Chicago Cubs do -- which is the same chance a snowball has of surviving a 4th of July picnic in Hades!

Tropical storms -- most assuredly. Hurricane season is right around the corner. Heard what the names are for this year?

NASCAR? Boring! Now golf -- there's an exciting subject! :bored:

Wow, are you OK? I ask because that is quite a leap you had to take to get from what I wrote to this.

My point -- which you seem to have missed -- is that we'd all be happier, both at Disney and here on the DISBoards, if we practiced MYOB. This whole issue of pool-hopping causes so much turmoil which could easily be avoided if people just let Disney do what Disney wants to do. If you don't like a situation while you are there, speak to the resort manager. If it can't be resolved and it is critical to your enjoyment, ask to be moved to another resort. Or vote with your feet and on the next trip stay somewhere else.

But all this back and forth on the RB everytime this comes up solves nothing. It's just the same old, same old rehashed ad nauseaum.

(Climbing down off my soapbox now...)
