Pool hopping to a non-DVC resort?

We just returned (less than 2 weeks ago) from our first trip home to BWV! We had a blast, and spent 10 glorious nights there in a 1-bedroom. I asked for top floor across from the bus stop (standard view category), and we got 3rd floor, across from the bus stop. We saw fireworks from Epcot every night and it was magical!

OK, enough of that...we only used the pool at our resort (which we all loved, especially the kids!). I know that as a DVC member, we have a pool-hopping privilege. I am also aware that we can't use that at BCV, AKV or BLT. And of course there are blackout dates, but those are not the dates we tend to go (mid-July). Could you pool hop to other WDW resorts that are not DVC resorts?

For example...we had dinner at Kona Cafe one night and we really loved it there. DH and I loved the food, but we also enjoyed the Kona pressed pot coffee very much. So much that...although we love Dole Whips and had planned to get one at the CS at the Poly after dinner, we did not want to get rid of the taste of that Kona coffee! Sounds bizarre, I know! :rotfl2: So...what we have been thinking is...on a day we don't go to a theme park, have breakfast at Kona Cafe (which we want to try next time), enjoy the pool area at the Poly with the kids for a few hours (which we did at BWV and it was very relaxing and fun!). Then, when it's time for lunch we can head into Captain Cook's and grab something, then enjoy a nice Dole Whip. Then we can head back to the BWV before it gets too hot outside.

So, is it possible to do this as a DVC member staying at a DVC resort on points? Or am I just dreaming?

Yes, you could hop to regular WDW resort hotel pools.

Whenever you are staying on your Membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity.

Bonnie - we did this very thing in June. We hopped from BLT (too small and crowded) to the Poly pool and had a blast. We were two adults, and thought that slide was amazing! It was so fun. As long as you follow the rules - no black out dates, etc. - you'll be fine. Your kids will enjoy it!

I've been waiting to see what you had to say when you got back. I knew it was your first trip "home", and I hope it was spectacular.

We have done this a couple of times. In May we were staying at OKW and we went over to the Poly to enjoy the fireworks from the beach and the kids enjoyed the pool while waiting. Then we also pool hooped to the BWV pool one day where we started at HS then ended at Epcot. It was a nice break from the heat without having to go all the way back to our resort.

Sounds great to me!! That's it...breakfast at Kona, Poly pool, lunch or snacks at Capt. Cook's (especially dole whips!!), then back to our resort once it gets too hot outside! Sounds like a nice relaxing day!

Thank you so much by the way...our trip was spectacular and we are really so glad we became DVC members. As soon as we walked into that villa, we felt like we were in heaven! :cloud9: It was very nice having so much space, and I know it will be nice through the years as the boys get older. I know that when they are teens, they will be putting us to bed and staying up in that living room!! :rotfl:

It's always handy to have your copy of Portable Perks with you to show the Lifeguard in case someone thinks you are poolhopping illegally.

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2 I thought the DVC Member card would be enough but this is a good idea!

Now it's time for you all to laugh at me and think I am completely nuts...our next trip is in July 2012! :lmao: I know, so far away, and perks can change, including the ability to pool-hop. But I can't help it...I love planning these trips even though the plans change so much before we actually go! OH well...at least by the time we actually go, I am relaxed since all plans are in place! :goodvibes

Knew that AKV, BCV, and BLT do not participate in the "pool hopping" unless of course staying at that particular property.

Never knew that pool hopping to Resort Pools, like the Poly were permitted.

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR THE GREAT SUGGESTION ABOUT CARRYING
PORTABLE PERKS AND DVC BLUE MEMBER CARDS IN CASE YOU ARE ASKED AT THE POOL!

THANKS AGAIN!:cool1::cool1::thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Quick tangent: Where does the "Portable Perks" come from? We just bought SSR a couple of months ago and at the first meeting (Doorway to Dreams) our guide gave us an AKV edition of Portable Perks, but I'm not sure if that's a "Sample" copy and we're supposed to get a newer copy or what...once we actually signed we received the cards, the "big book" and contract paperwork. Should I be expecting something?

You will get a copy of Portable Perks when you check into your DVC resort. It will be in the folder. It used to be a small booket. Now it's a large folded sheet about the size of an index card.

did you use the monrail or do you drive over to the Polyn?

if you used the monrail - do you change before you got on it?
