Pool Hopping question

We own at BWV.

Let me see if I get this right...the current rules are while staying on points we can pool hop to any other resort pool except AKL assuming there are no restrictions by the resort that day (i.e. busy time periods).

When BCV opens in August, we cannot pool hop there anymore.

Is this correct? Or can you not pool hop to any other DVC property than the one you are staying at?

There hasn't been any official change in the pool hopping policy. People are guessing that SAB will no longer be available. DVC may take that opportunity to make other changes as well....or things may stay the same. We'll have to wait and see.

I would love to see some actual numbers on the impact of poolhopping on the volume of people at any given pool...How many "extra" pool people are poolhoppers from DVC? Do different resorts generate more poolhopping? Not just the SAB which is the most "appealing" to hop to -but also which resorts provide the more hoppers? Do more people from BWV hop to SAB since it is so convenient? Do more OKW poolhop in general than other DVC attendees since the OKW pool is relatively unthemed? Do the VWL folks hop more to the monorail resorts? Just how big of an impact does pool hopping really have?

Just curious and hungry for facts...With more information, I would have an easier time coming up with a RATIONAL policy on poolhopping.

Well this is not a "study". However, the last time I stayed at the YC I was AMAZED at the amount of pool hopping I did see. The guards were checking and I was near the entrance and DVC members showed up constantly. Plus everytime I went out to the car there was a trail of people in swimsuits going one way or the other.

Now don't get me wrong, I like pool hopping. However, when I pay YC rates I want a lounge chair and I can understand why they have to limit the pool hopping. I think there are two other things to consider here. Lots of times DVC members feel like they have more time to spend at the pool, because they know they will be back to Disney. Also, based on the large groups pool hopping the day I was there I wondered if people don't take even more advantage of it when they bring their friends and neighbors (kind of a showing off the perks deal!)

CarolA-When were you there? We were there in late July of 2001, and the pool was not crowded at all. They were not even checking IDs. Maybe they ought to continue it during the slow times.
