One of the things that frustrated us about our previous stay (back in 2006) at the Polynesian were all the people who were pool hopping in the Volcano pool. I do believe that some are entitled (vacation holders or villa owners or something like that). But way too many people were staying at other locations (Disney or otherwise) and took some of the pleasure away (as well as towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc.). I do realize the quiet pool is an option, but have any steps been taken since 2006 to limit the pool area (pool and lounge chairs, tables, etc.) to those who are supposed to be there? Sorry if it seems snobby, but this vacation is a pretty penny and we would like to get the maximum value as a resort guest. Thanks in advance for any and all repsonses and comments.

Not to my knowledge. It very much frustrates me too.

The only solution is a wristband system like at Storm-a-Long Bay and that will only happen if a TREMENDOUS amount of Poly Guests complain to Disney.:)

I understand your frustration, (the pool does get really crowded) and we stay at the Poly often, and other than once when people outright told us they were staying at the CR, we wouldn't know if the people there were guests of the Poly or not. How does everyone know that there are so many pool hoppers? Am I missing something?

I can tell you that last April it was that way too... We went to the BC/YC and saw the fence all the way around the pool. We swam for a while at the quiet pool, but it was wall-to-wall people at one point and there were at least three parties who weren't staying there. One lady sitting next to me told me they were staying elsewhere, but they brought their stuff on the monorail because the Poly is so pretty... Two other parties (one was at least 10 people-- poorly behaved adults and children hucking a football all over the "quiet" pool guests, doing cannonballs...) had enough baggage with them to have hiked the Appalachian Trail, caught a bus to Disney and stopped by the pool. Seriously. I blame WDW for not having some sort of system, or not utilizing the check the KTTW card system they have in place, not so much the people as it is pretty easy to miss a "No Pool Hopping" sign you aren't looking for ;)

While I don't think I'd like to see fence all the way around the Poly's pools, I too get frustrated that we pay so much to stay there and yet don't get the pool privacy that guests there deserve. Tough situation.

Am I missing something as well, how do you know these people are pool hoipping?

Because often people do NOT know they can't pool hop, they have no problem asking where you are staying! Trust me, at least once per trip, at the pool someone will say, "So where are you staying?" I answered Tahiti the first time this happened and the lady said, "We are staying at the Insert chain hotel here" (DTD hotel??) Of course having an innate inability to keep my mouth shut, I said, "Oh... Ummm...did you know that the resort pools here are only for guests of the hotel?" She told me they had been at the Magic Kingdom, so they had already gotten tickets.... Ummm... yeah, OK, gotta go find my kids...

It would never occur to me to do this, and no, ignorance is NOT an excuse, but shoot, when they come right out and tell you they aren't staying there... those are the really obvious ones :thumbsup2

Stay at YC/BC. No pool hopping happens over there...

Interestingly, at the DLR hotels, they DO have key card locked gates around all the resort pools, due to the HUGE number of day guests DLR gets.

Fences work. For the most part. None of the DLR hotel pools is ever full of non-resort guests...

We ran into a few folks who were hopping at the Poly pool last April as well. One of the days we were there a lifeguard was checking id's and on another occasion we saw a group being asked to leave.

I do wish they would have key carded gates at the deluxe pools. It gets really frusterating when you meet people at the pools that are stayng elsewhere.

We've stayed at the Poly 3x, and we are not returning there; a big reason is because of the overcrowded pool, partly due to gate crashers.

It's obvious when you see people with huge amounts of "stuff" in strollers--it's obvious they've been at a park all day--and they're parked there while their kids swim. We even met some people on the monorail who said they were staying at Shades of Green, and then the next day, we saw them in the volcano pool.

Until the Poly management does something, it's going to continue. During all of our stays there (all in the summer), we never saw the lifeguards or management checking IDs. If we had seen some effort on Disney's part to address the problem, we would have felt better, but in our experience, they did not care.

We have found that there is not such an issue at the GF for whatever reason, which is why we prefer to stay there now.

That's what I like about SAB!

When we stayed at the Polynesian we too saw pool hoppers. They would even bring their clothes and change in the bathroom by Captain Cook's!

It really upsets me to pay the big bucks to stay at a deluxe and then have trouble finding a chair because the "pool hoppers" are all over.

If you are a guest at the Polynesian and you think there are too many non-guests at the pool, why not just ask the Lifeguards if they will check IDs? You can tell them that you overheard people talking about "their" hotel that was not the Polynesian.

Or you can tell all the people you run across how WONDERFUL the pools at the GF and CR :rolleyes1KIDDING!!!!

If it bothers you so much, why not tell the lifeguard or go ask for a manager, I know if several people told me that at the pool, and it was way crowded, I would certainly say something to someone who worked there, if it bothered me that much.:confused3
Until guests staying at the "intruded upon" pool at their resort complain, nothing will probably be done.

I'm thinking about doing just that this year. Last year in Sept the volcano pool was too crowded to even sit around. I so wanted to stay at the BC this year just for the pool but my family outvoted me so we'll be back at the Poly and just hope for the best.

It's really not the guests' responsibility to tattle on pool hoppers. That's the management's job. And they choose to ignore the problem, resulting in an overcrowded pool. So we've chosen to stay elsewhere--

I just think this is another case of the Poly management not paying attention to factors which can impact guests' experiences at that resort.

Hi! New here!
I have been to other resorts that allow you to pool hop when you are staying at a "sister" property, so I'll bet people at other disney resorts think it's perfectly acceptable. Of course, they shouldn't just assume, but I think that is what is going on.
I personally think they should post signs or have attendants at the gate. I don't think it is the lifeguard's responsiblity and actually don't think that it is safe for them to have to deal with pool hoppers. I'd rather them be watching the pool.
Just my 2-cents!
BTW, taking our first family vacation to Disney in May! :)

I'm pretty sure there are signs by the pool that says, for resort guests only, or something like that. Common sense should dictate no use of the pool if you are not staying there. I'd definitely *******

The Poly's pool is not big. They should enforce resort guests only.
