Honestly- if the cops suggested I do that for something like this, I'd question them as well. Doesn't seem an appropriate use of an emergency number to me.
I disagree.
You'd call 911 because someone is breaking the law, they are trespassing. Calling 911 will help to get a police officer on the scene quickly. If you call the non emergency number in the middle of the night, you might not get a quick response.
Exactly.
Who knows what these people are really up to? Sure, it seems like a swim...but they are on someone else's property. Property with a *fence*. They don't come by in the daytime, they don't invite the owners outside to join them...they know they are up to no good.
My friend lives on a golfcourse in Texas and have had the same problem. Worse? They can't have a high fence. it's just a pretty fence that looks nice to the golfers. And yes, they would be liable if someone hurt themselves or drowned, even though they weren't invited.
Of course...it's Texas, so I imagine my friend (or really, her husband, if he wasn't on the oil rig at the time) would have other recourses to get them off her property...
