You'd call 911 because someone is breaking the law, they are trespassing. Calling 911 will help to get a police officer on the scene quickly. If you call the non emergency number in the middle of the night, you might not get a quick response.

Who knows what these people are really up to? Sure, it seems like a swim...but they are on someone else's property. Property with a *fence*. They don't come by in the daytime, they don't invite the owners outside to join them...they know they are up to no good.



My friend lives on a golfcourse in Texas and have had the same problem. Worse? They can't have a high fence. it's just a pretty fence that looks nice to the golfers. And yes, they would be liable if someone hurt themselves or drowned, even though they weren't invited.

Of course...it's Texas, so I imagine my friend (or really, her husband, if he wasn't on the oil rig at the time) would have other recourses to get them off her property...

I'm not sure who the "priecent" is, but I think this is bad advice. Certainly call the police, but this is hardly an emergency situation warranting calling 911. Something like this could cost lives in real emergencies.

I agree. Criminal activity on my property is an emergency. The operators who take the calls can and do prioritize (my cuz is an operator).

Not only are these kids committing a crime but should something happen (injury, drowning, etc) the OP will be held liable. It opens her to an insurance settlement at best and full on lose it all legal action.

Op, I'd document everything you've done to keep these kids out. Locked fence, motion lights, posted notice, pool alarm, police involvement ... All of it.

While it appears over the top there is potential for this to go bad quickly especially if drinking is involved. It is all harmless teenage fun until someone is hurt and their sue happy parents get involved.

you should see the scar my wife has on her forearm. about 4 inches long... from hopping a chain link fence, back in her high school days.

I think it's ridiculous parents let these kids do this (but they probably don't know, right?).

Regardless, OP, it sounds like you've done everything possible to prevent them from coming in. Lock the gate, get the motion sensor lights, maybe a sign that says "No Trespassing" or "Private Property" (not that that will stop them for sure but maybe it will scare them!).
